When it comes to ice hockey, in my eyes, Finland was always the toughest opponent for our 🇸🇰 team but for some reason, I don't know why, I don't know how, Finland had always a soft spot in my heart and it's my number 2 for cheering 🏒🇫🇮 (sorry Czech brothers). What's even weirder, after watching this, I watched the episode about Finland and it seems like heaven to me. I would literally move there but I'm too scared of the language 🤣.. maybe some day. Good luck in the next championship❤️
We also feel some kind of "underdog" (Slovakia) to "semi-underdog" (Finland) connection, when it comes to fighting your big brother (Czechia and Sweden) in ice-hockey. Only difference is, that we are unable to beat our rivals in hockey (we love Czechs, we just desperately want to beat them in the game) , whereas you are just as good as Swedes, despite the population size differences

I am Welsh, married to a Slovak and live in Slovakia and we have a massive mint where I am from in Wales that makes a lot of the money around the world. Between that, the castles and the pride in the nature and mountains found in both countries and the way we are both overlooked in favour of our louder, more well-known neighbours I totally have found my spirit-home in my adopted nation. Now I just need to get fluent in Slovak (getting there) and learn Welsh (hmmmmmmm - a plan for my old age) and I'll be the perfect Welsh-Slovak! This video was great but didn't mention the lakes, spas, and love of wellness here enough.

Small note regarding pronunciation, we read "j" not like "j" in "pyjamas", but like the "y" in "yes", so some words like "Juraj Jánošík" or "fujara" should be read differently :)
Yeah I’m actually pretty sure most languages would naturally do that which is why the IPA represents Y with a J. I think it’s just that English and French kind of standardised the use of J as a separate letter which is why it’s more commonly seen now.
I am from Croatia and I can understand Slovak language if they talk slowly. "old croatian language" uses the same words. On the other hand I do not understand Czech. Slovaks are my favorite european people, the ones I met are very similar. I have met plenty slovaks in the Adriatic, but never been to Slovakia unfortunately - it is first on my visit list. High five for this episode!
Bok na Hrvašku! Indeed, slovakian and croatian languages are close in vocab, and czech and slovenian are close in vocab. Learning croatian vocabulary is easier than slovenian - more common roots, much less false friends. Slovakian and slovenian languages have dozens of false friend words.... it´s tricky!

That whole campaign was a mess. You guys drew Paraguay and New Zealand. I mean, yeah, New Zealand was in form and playing good football, but... still. I especially remember the goal Kopunek scored, throw in, he ran for his life, first touch after being subbed in, lob over Marchetti, and our commentator went bonkers.
This brought back memories of working with this nice and generous guy from Slovakia named Lubomir. We exchanged stories on history and geography during his stay and he told us about how communism affected the practice of religion and getting an education back in the day, as well as why the velvet revolution was called as such. Don't worry, you have us cousin. 🇸🇰
Yeah, haha. Where almost at the finish line and Slovenia has yet to be mentioned in the friendzone segment with any country.
@@QuinlanLJ Yeah we are just neutral towards everyone and everyone is neutral towards us.. rather sad. At this point I would just want him to just say so on the episode, they have no friends.
@@QuinlanLJ it was in Croatia's video lol
still pretty sad tho
I'm wondering the same. If you read online comments, then there's "no doubt" - Russia :D. I mean they glorify Putin to God level, saying he's "our savior". But more realistically, Austria and Germany were the strongest supporters of our independence. And more recently, the Benelux nations were among the most vocal backers of our position when it comes to the border arbitration with Croatia. Nonetheless, I think you could still include Croatia on the list, 100.000s of Slovenians spend their vacations there or own real estate. And Italy, particularly for those of us who were born in the western part of the country.

I was in Bratislava during both times Finland won hockey world championship. Lovely country and people and hopefully next time I visit Finland wins fourth world championship ❤ love from Finland
I was in Bratislava as well, I really enjoyed the atmosphere of the city
When it comes to ice hockey, in my eyes, Finland was always the toughest opponent for our 🇸🇰 team but for some reason, I don't know why, I don't know how, Finland had always a soft spot in my heart and it's my number 2 for cheering 🏒🇫🇮 (sorry Czech brothers). What's even weirder, after watching this, I watched the episode about Finland and it seems like heaven to me.
I would literally move there but I'm too scared of the language 🤣.. maybe some day.
Good luck in the next championship❤️
We love Finnish hockey fans! Especially in Košice, my hometown. They were fun and not pretentious! We were simply glad, we made you feel happy :)
@@kofe_in_3759 My chart, when cheering is:
1. Homeland
2. Czechia
3. Finland
4. Russia
Sometimes I cheer for Germany too, when they go from zero to hero in no time. They do it quite often
PS: I would cheer for Irland too, if they would participate :D
I am Welsh, married to a Slovak and live in Slovakia and we have a massive mint where I am from in Wales that makes a lot of the money around the world.
Yeah, and that "c" is not a hard 'c' or weak 'c', it's a "ts/tz/ț" sound... (Don't know how to spell it... lol)

We exchanged stories on history and geography during his stay and he told us about how communism affected the practice of religion and getting an education back in the day, as well as why the velvet revolution was called as such. He told us that there are indeed a lot of castles out there. We gave him a surprise celebration on his name day and he really appreciated it, being far from his home country at the time.
