High five for this episode!
Bok na Hrvašku! Indeed, slovakian and croatian languages are close in vocab, and czech and slovenian are close in vocab. Learning croatian vocabulary is easier than slovenian - more common roots, much less false friends. Slovakian and slovenian languages have dozens of false friend words.... it´s tricky!
I was in Bratislava last year, and was really impressed with it ...beautiful historical/modern city, really great atmosphere. Also kind of surprised they didn't mention Peter Sagan other than that, great episode, lovely country. Greetings from Germany
Small note regarding pronunciation, we read "j" not like "j" in "pyjamas", but like the "y" in "yes", so some words like "Juraj Jánošík" or "fujara" should be read differently :)
Yeah I’m actually pretty sure most languages would naturally do that which is why the IPA represents Y with a J. I think it’s just that English and French kind of standardised the use of J as a separate letter which is why it’s more commonly seen now.
Well i guess Czechs overestimate their abilities whenever they go. Its not that long ago when a Czech guy was eaten by sharks becouse he was diving in a place which is known to have a lot of sharks and everyone told him dont do it, but he was like nope.

All the churches, mountains, trails, wildlife, and small cities deserve a to be known.

I am from Croatia and I can understand Slovak language if they talk slowly. "old croatian language" uses the same words. On the other hand I do not understand Czech.
Slovaks are my favorite european people, the ones I met are very similar. I have met plenty slovaks in the Adriatic, but never been to Slovakia unfortunately - it is first on my visit list.

Yeah, and that "c" is not a hard 'c' or weak 'c', it's a "ts/tz/ț" sound... (Don't know how to spell it... lol)

I've did my Erasmus in Slovakia in Nitra and I totally loved it. Even thought Slovakia is very far away from Portugal (my country) I really felt the cultural similarities rather than the differences and I'll write them here cuz they are funny:
-Both countries and its people lived on the shadow of big neighbour empires and countries (Portugal-Spain-UK/ (Czecho)Slovakia-Austria-Hungary)
-Both countries are 'incredibly small' but with great morals and democratic values (some episodic events of corruption happen nonetheless).
-Both Portuguese and Slovak compete to see who's the most alcoholic and who loves grandma the most (Amor de Mãe/Avó mais um copinho de bagaço, verde ou tinto Versus Babishka love drinking borovicka, sliboviza, hruskviza).
-Both countries share an effort on the Preservation of the Nature. All the churches, mountains, trails, wildlife, and small cities deserve a to be known.
People who lived in the shadow of big empires? I'm from Ukraine and we still live under this Moscow shadow.
@@oleh1629 Slovaks through history lived in shadow of: Moscow, Budapest, Vienna, Prague, Berlin, Istanbul. Brussels, maybe.
preservation of nature... ehhh the people maybe make an effort, but the politicians do not care whatsoever. its very sad how our nature is getting destroyed.
