    if you've only watched Geoff's video, watch Andy and Victoria's as well - the contrast is amazing! Geoff sits calmly in air-conditioned comfort, on an empty train, whist the other two have a classic Northern Line experience. I'm never likely to make this journey, but if I did, I'd go Thamselink, even with a 15 minute wait!

    Having Clarkson in the pub sipping on a cold beer, laughing at Geoff, with a Veyron parked outside would have been a nice touch. The final scene? The Veyron being towed away causing an enraged Clarkson.

    • @civic5555

      super unrealistic as with a Veyron, even going with 406 km an hour (it's highest speed), Clarkson would still get beaten by all 3 of them...as you simply cannot drive in London anymore

    I agree Thameslink should be on the Tube map, someone needs to tell TfL to stop being parochial, and think of what's useful for travellers in London, rather than just promoting their services

    • @fetchstixRHD
      @fetchstixRHD 6 лет назад +54

    So I decided to do this myself using all methods! The quickest way to do the journey is Northern Line, Bank Branch, change at Euston, cross platform interchange to the Victoria, change at Oxford Circus, cross platform interchange to the Bakerloo. Of course, this relies on just catching trains, and the Bakerloo can let this down. BUT, if one can get off one train and straight onto another, it is the quickest!

    Hi Geoff. When the London travel restrictions are lifted, I think you should make another episode of “Which Is Faster?”... when I lived in London last year I had a friend who commuted from West Hampstead Thameslink to his office near Blackfriars. One day, ThamesLink was suspended for whatever reason, and instead he took the Jubilee Line from Kilburn (which was nearer to his flat than West Hampstead Thameslink) to Waterloo, then walked to his office. And it’s got me thinking...
    Whilst the Jubilee Line doesn’t go to Blackfriars and ThamesLink doesn’t go to Waterloo, they do both run from West Hampstead to London Bridge. So maybe “ThamesLink vs. Jubilee Line” might be in the pipeline in the future?
    Many thanks, your content has been keeping me entertained during this mad year.
    Stay safe! Joey.

    The best thing about this video is it shows the rabbit-warren disadvantage of taking the tube. Like cramming matches into a box getting on, and spilling them all over the place getting off. The exit signage in the tube is there first and foremost for efficient disengorgement of the passengers, not necessarily to point you to your optimal exit - and this video shows that even experts get foxed by it..
    In any case subject yourself to that if a comfortable service gave you a view of the river too? Now Thameslink will run 24 trains / hr - through the core - its as good as turn-up & go. Please say hello to Andy. He's gone quiet and I hope he's OK. T

    Used to commute Westham into city. C2C vs District Tube. C2C so much more pleasant even though I had to time it right and walk further. Noise, rattling A/C daylight, smells, less time on train, all matter on a commute.

    Good morning Geoff!
    I was hoping the tube would win but then again I'm glad Geoff won.
    Maybe I'll have to change my profile pic to a Thameslink logo!
    Does Thameslink have a logo?
    Idk...

    All Luton/St Albans - Sutton/Wimbledon Thameslink services have First Class declassified. There are no First Class provision or even any First Class tickets issued for Luton/St Albans - Sutton/Wimbledon Thameslink services. This was also the case when Class 319 operated on this route. You could have gone to the First Class cabin at the front of the train!
    Kind regards, Peter Skuce

    I think there should be three available maps - a Tube Map, which has Underground services only, a TfL map which has the Underground, DLR, Trams, Overground and Crossrail lines and an "All Services" map which has all of the above lie and has National Rail services within the Greater London area and which link up with TfL services.

  • @explorebytrain448
    @explorebytrain448 6 лет назад

    Of course every second Northern Line train goes by Bank at Kentish Town, which means there is a bigger gap between trains then most of the other Underground lines.

    Great video Geoff and I went on Thameslink yesterday and it was quite fast if you get the quicker train as there is one that goes around Redhill and Coulsdon or one that goes straight to East Croydon. London Bridge looks great after the work that took place. I think Thameslink should be put on the map as after all the work that's been put into it deserves to be promoted on the map to increase passengers. Crossrail and London overground are on it but they are TFL so maybe TFL just want to keep national rail off the map.

      1. Express trains. 1.5 miles can be done in 5 mins.
      2. Price: £2.50 to go anywhere on the system
      3. Air conditioning
      4. Taller carriages (no crouching)
      5. Not as crowded. New Yorkers may disagree but you don't often get the situation where you have to wait 4 or 5 trains before there's room to board.
      6. On time. Not many people realize that there's a timetable but if you do use it you'll realize that the trains are remarkably punctual, especially outside of rush hours.
      Most of my experience is with the 1, 2 and 3 trains, which have a pretty good service.

    My travel is also complex. I need to get from Greenwich maritime to Finsbury park. I take instead of DLR to bank and northern to kings cross. But is faster to get to Greenwich and get Thameslink and drop off at London bridge and take northern afterwards or take overground from Shadwell.
