Mind Over Mogul is rooted in this philosophy, but I’ve made it tamer. The goal of this drill is to ski within a confined space. This will force you to deal with every obstacle in your path.
I like to ski in corridors where I am forced to make turns. Knowing the boundaries provides me with the focus of where to look, when to turn and forces me to find a constant speed. Now when you add in moguls, the game really gets interesting. Begin skiing in a mogul field and find your Angle of Entry, Pressure your Uphill ski at the end of the turn, Using the Pole Point for your pole plant while keeping your Eyes down the Hill while remembering You Go Where you Look, So Look Where you want to Go.
This is Mind Over Mogul because when you apply the skills outlined in this program, moguls don’t matter!
Make six to eight turns; stop, regroup, and go again. Ski as wide as you like until you have no problem choosing where to turn. As you gain confidence, shorten your traverse but commit to a certain space and definite width. As you progress, bring your commitment level higher by shortening the traverse until you are skiing the fall line.
This drill will build agility and identify the path of least resistance. You will instantly notice the moguls are intimidating you less because you’re learning where to turn.
