Waakye is really common in Ghana and it’s usually eaten in the mornings (you wake up and go to your local waakye seller and enjoy-especially on Saturdays😂). Sometimes, it’s hard to find waakye in the afternoons because it gets finished fast😂. You can eat it with spaghetti, salad, garri, plantain, beef, wele (I’m not sure if that’s Nigerian pomo🤷🏾♀️), fish, egg, sausage, shito and the waakye stew. It’s commonly eaten in a leaf (I guess it adds more flavor).

Hey Abena! I'm your brother, Akwasi! We love you too. The kind of spaghetti used is not the usual. We use the basic size spaghetti. I wished you would have liked the waakye better, its my personal favorite dish. None of our foods are for specific occasions ONLY, but its just that many events are celebrated with rice meals because they have more of a gourmet look so jollof and waakye tend to be the meal of choice.
Waakye is absolutely delicious and a staple Ghanaian dish. It originated from Northern Ghana but enjoyed by all Ghanaians. The beans is black eyed beans and it’s cooked with a certain leaf that gives it the colour. The spaghetti just makes it a more richer or heavier meal. We often have this for breakfast lol. The spaghetti you got with you meal is not the typical spaghetti they use in Ghana. The one they use back home is quite similar to spaghettini but called Taalia. It’s my absolutely favourite Ghanaian dish lol.
The jollof and waakye can be enjoyed with Shito or the sauce, salad, gari and any kind of protein here in Ghana. The waakye has that colour because of a particular dried leaf used in preparing it. You can mix gari with shito or sauce and enjoy it with any protein and vegs as a complete dish 😋
Waakye is eating mostly in Northern part of Ghana, their waakye is slightly different from those in the south because mostly they use the local brown rice. Adding macaroni, gari and even lettuce depends on the one eating it ,how he or she wants the taste and nutritional value. On the other hand, Ghana jollof we can add macaroni,Shito and lettuce too or sallad.
@@TillyBOAT Yassss I love the pepper in it, it just took it to a different level for me. And I tasted the powdered shrimp and dry fish in it too. I love the tomato stew actually! One of my favs 😍😍
Oh the colour of waakye is due to some kind of dried leaves used in the preparation...It's Sorghum bicolor leaves. It's boiled with the rice and beans together and later removed before the food is ready...sometimes they are soaked in hot water for the colour to get into the water and the water is then used for the preparation of the waakye...it's such a nice dish over here in Ghana and many people love itttttt!
Waakye is from northern Ghana but its eaten all over the country, some add salad to the gari and spaghetti but I like it with only gari. Its very nice and nutritious.
Waachye originated from Northern Ghana and all of Ghana eat it. We eat if Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner and it is soooo nice. Our spag is special and made in Ghana and called Taalia, we also make our own cheese called Wagaashi.. There are other things Gold may like cos we have a lot of dishes Thank you for liking our Jollof, we love it too
Thanks for the review of our food. This might sound surprising but Waakye is a breakfast/brunch meal in Ghana. You'll find it in all corners on a normal day. Actually, most Ghanaians prefer waakye over Jollof. Waakye is rice and beans boiled together with a certain leaf that gives it a reddish color and acquired taste/aroma. Shito is a spicy stew that goes with almost every meal - banku, kenkey, Jollof, waakye, gari, etc. Next time, try banku with okro stew and Kenkey with fried fish/shrimps.
A lot of things are going on with the waakye and there was even still something missing! 😂 Some people even add sliced vegetables or salad to it and of course the egg and yes wele which I believe Nigerians call pomo. Waakye is a whole combo I tell you😂😂 and thanks to you I’m currently craving it🥺😂😅
I do my waakye with just spaghetti and veggies. Boil eggs and some fried meat. Don’t take stew oo just shito. Only shito n my sister it depends where u get the waakye from. Cooking is an act so no wahala😁. But I was in Nigeria and we sat for food at Ikeja mall Lagos. I honestly laughed eating the jollof there 😂 I say GH jollof all the way. Its a meal eaten by every Ghanaian but originated from the DAGBANI people of Northern Ghana. When you buy it, It is never served separately like what you got. The Spaghetti was not the type mostly used, its the type used in Romeni noodles and it has to have the eggs in it, salad leaves, etc what you guys had I wouldn't eat my WAAKYE like that.
Togolese Jollof all the way but we called it Riz au gras for French people and i will take my Togolese riz au gras all the way and it all depends on who cooked it indeed ❤️❤️❤️nice video thank you for sharing
The waakye is cooked with rice, beans and a special herb. That herbs gives it that deep colour. You can get the real waakye from the Hajia not restaurant

They use plenty pepper for the shito make it hot, so you take just a small amount
One thing is the Nigerian local rice they use to prepare. Ghanaian rice are polished ones(perfume rice)
Yasss
That's not true dear
Absolutely NOT true
I want some Ghana Jollof rice😍. I have never eaten it before. You ladies are making me hungry. It is not fair😀
My dear, let me send you some of it cause it’s delicious 😋 You should try it
Hugs back to you from Ghana we are humanists empathetic and kind, we do not fight talk loud on the phone or to others and not selfish
Thank you 😊
Thanks for the honesty I haven't tried Nigerian jollof before am Ghanaian living in US I dont have Nigerian not even Ghanaian friends where I am
When you can, you should try it. It’s very nice
Waakye is from northern Ghana but its eaten all over the country, some add salad to the gari and spaghetti but I like it with only gari. Its very nice and nutritious.
Yes it definitely is, I should have gotten the salad. I’d try it with a salad again
Waachye originated from Northern Ghana and all of Ghana eat it. We eat if Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner and it is soooo nice.
Our spag is special and made in Ghana and called Taalia, we also make our own cheese called Wagaashi..
There are other things Gold may like cos we have a lot of dishes
Thank you for liking our Jollof, we love it too
You’re making me hungry already! Now I want to try everything you’ve mentioned 🥺🥺
Thank you very much 😊 esp for the information and I’ll certainly try the other meals you’ve mentioned
I love awaakye sooo much even though am a nigerian # love ghana
Waakye is from the northern region of Ghana. It is a common meal that has no exact tribe of people that eat it.
Ohhh I didn’t know 😭 Thank you for this information 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Come again, there are more than 2 tribes in northern Ghana. We basically have similar food up north . Waakye, To zaafi, yam fufu, Etc
🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗Ghana we always win
I really, love the way u re curiously integrating in our lifestyle. Gha +Niger = ghaneria. one love
Aw your excitement is so cute...you honestly tried with the pronunciations.
Awwww 🥰🥰 Thank You so much 🥺💜💜
Hi Abna 😍😍... you could actually pass as a Ghanaian girl
Finally 🥺💃🏾💃🏾💜
You pronounced it right 👍🏿. You go girl 👧🏽. 🇬🇭🇺🇸 🇳🇬 👍🏿🥷
Aww 🥰 Thank you so much Dear ☺️
Chaaaaleeeeee!!!!!!!!! I love your opening 😅🤣😅😂😂
Awesome video u guys are doing well. Keep it up
The consistency!
Yassss Mama 🥺🥺😌
Waakye is a general meal eating by all Ghanaians especially in the morning and evening.
I virtually lived in Ghana and I always look forward to eating street food whenever I go out
Original Ghana Jollof .... comes with the beef and broken pieces of boneless fish smoked tuna.😋😋
Yassss and it’s so nice 🥺🥺
It's original from north and it's take all over the country, not for any occasion before eating. Thanks and all the pronunciation are perfect
Awww 🥰 Thank you so much 😊
The proper way to ask "how are you" will be: WO HO TE SEN?
Ete Sen? literally translates: HOW IS IT?
Thank you 😊
But “3te s3n” is an informal way so she’s good!
@@amatawiahforson3020 Thank you so much Dear ☺️☺️💜
Your friend was impressed with the waakye because she ate without added sauce. For most Ghanaian foods, as you eat them that's when you appreciate it
GHANA JOLLOF IS THE BEST ALL THE TIME
But I also feel like the person making it matters. 🤷🏾♀️ 😅
Definitely does
waakye can be eaten anyday anytime its soo good with korkor too(fried plantains) and also wele
What’s wele?
@@gloria_memberr Weley is kpomor in Nigeria.
@@gloria_memberr its cooked cowhides that are very chewy apparently they're called pomo in Nigeria
@@hettymillican Ohh I see! Thank you 😊
I’ve honestly never compared Nigerian and Ghanaian jollof, cause I’ve never tried it. But when I do, I’d definitely share my review with you!
I’ll be waiting 🥺😭
I will like to host you whenever you cone to Ghana
A lot of things are going on with the waakye and there was even still something missing! 😂 Some people even add sliced vegetables or salad to it and of course the egg and yes wele which I believe Nigerians call pomo. Waakye is a whole combo I tell you😂😂 and thanks to you I’m currently craving it🥺😂😅
please next time do not forget the fried plantain ooooooooo tom 🥰🤣🤣🤣
🎉 Abena❤ your true reaction. True facts, go girl!
One of the things I like about u is ur honesty 😘😘😘
Awww 🥰 Thank you so much 💜
I’ve tried Wankye rice before and it’s very nice
You like it ?? 🥺
Big love to u both Abena and Gold❤
The name given to someone born on a particular day of the week is given to EVERY GHANAIAN and not just a particular tribe ..As far as u are a Ghanaian you are entitled to one... I'm Kofi/Fii/Fiifi( Friday born)
Waakye is literally breakfast for Ghanaians 😂♥️
Yes
I tell you
U know right😂
Ykr😂😂😂
You got the pronunciations so well
Are you serious?? 😭😭💃🏾💃🏾💃🏾
The waakye tastes heavenly when eaten in the special leave and with your bare hands
Sister, the forgot to use the original spoon 🖐🏾
First to come👀👀

Nigerian jollof is the best. You can also add shedded beef 🥩 and prawns 🍤.
You look like you are an Ashanti princess! Akwaaba! Welcome Home, Abena💓💓💓
Thank you so so much 🥺🥺🥺
Thank you for your appreciation, Ghana jollof is good, it depends on who cook it
Yes , it was so good actually. And you’re right, it depends on who makes it ☺️
Lmao the beginning is already funny 😂😂😂
😂😂😂😂💜
I met a Nigerian at a Ghanaian party who had your exact reaction, composed himself, and asked, “how did you cook it?” 😂
It’s so good 🥺😩
I love your personality. Very bright 👌👍
Thank you 😊
You are trying but it is the native food for the people of northern Ghana.love you all.❤❤❤❤❤❤
We use Jasmine perfume rice for our jollof. And with shito you will be in heaven 😂😂✌🏽
Honestly, the shito is so so good 😭🥺 I love it! What is Jasmine perfume please? Like an actual perfume?
@@gloria_memberr yes its the name of that particular rice grain and sold across Europe in a bag
@@worldformatics I’d check for it. Thank you 😊💜
@@gloria_memberr you can also use basmati rice for jollof and it's taste good as well

Yes you’d actually pass for a Ghanaian
Aww 🥺🥺 Thank you Girl
Its a meal eaten by every Ghanaian but originated from the DAGBANI people of Northern Ghana. When you buy it, It is never served separately like what you got. The Spaghetti was not the type mostly used, its the type used in Romeni noodles and it has to have the eggs in it, salad leaves, etc what you guys had I wouldn't eat my WAAKYE like that.
I understand you. I can’t wait to eat the proper one 😭🥺🥺
It's not only from the Dagbani but all the tribes in the northern part of GH cos they all ve similar culture
@@gloria_memberr madam u can eat to save your life paaaa ooo

Togolese Jollof all the way but we called it Riz au gras for French people and i will take my Togolese riz au gras all the way and it all depends on who cooked it indeed ❤️❤️❤️nice video thank you for sharing
You’re welcome dear! I should try Togolese soon 😊
I heard Togolese people eat waakye too but they call it something else. How is it spelt?

@@gloria_memberr yes beautiful 🇬🇭🇬🇭🇬🇭. Thanks for sharing with us .
The waakye is cooked with rice, beans and a special herb. That herbs gives it that deep colour. You can get the real waakye from the Hajia not restaurant
Close to the gutter. Heavenly
Ghanaian we don't talk too much, everything is action.
If u know u know😍😎

Is actually for the North part but is so popular in Ghana that almost 99% of Ghanaian enjoy it very well and is almost cooked in all the sixteen religions in Ghana
In Ghana we add the day you are born to your name so you Don't Forget the day you are born, Tuesday is Abenaa o Abena the two are correct, ,
