    Love how UNIT folks never change. The Doctor says don't attack or hold fire and they completely ignore him even while shooting petals out of their guns and continuously firing as if it would suddenly change back to bullets.

      That’s probably their hope. They’re completely outmatched and likely panicking. Their job is to protect the Earth at all costs, and they’ll go down in blazes if they have to do it. They’re probably doing all they know they can, which is at least to try. Also establishes how powerful the Toymaker is.

    Fantastic performance by NPH. My only small nitpick isn't the fact that he's so different than the original toy maker, but that the script never bothers to drop a single line that explains why he is so different now.

    • @truewave
      @truewave 9 месяцев назад +30

      Actually, they did. On the platform of UNIT when The Toymaker and The Doctor talk, he says "You know full well this is merely a face ..." This implies that The Toymaker can wear any face, any costume, any persona at his whim. Whimsical, ja? ha hA Ha HA Ha hA ha

      Why does there need to be a reason or explanation? The fact is the character was written and portrayed as suited for two entirely different television cultures, technical capabilities, budgets, etc. Why this need to explain things like this within its fictional world- simply put there’s a lot more resources in the program’s toolbox now versus the 1960s or any time during the original show’s run

      Also the previous episode before this one sorta sets up the idea of the Toymaker. The original Toymaker lived in an alternate dimension from ours, he never really interacted with the universe before. This one has. That's what makes him so different

    • @LunaWindsoul
      @LunaWindsoul 9 месяцев назад +6

      yeah well the best about the rasputin dance is that it wasn't scripted :D Sacha just thought he'd read "The Master dances" in the script so he danced. Crew was like "What is he doing?" Jodie is like "Did you forget your text? Should I help you out?" and then everyone is like "Nah, its Sacha. We just let him do his thing." And then they all really liked the scene so they made some reshoots to keep it in the episode. Had a wonderful talk with Richard Pryce at this years Timelash about that matter :D

    Oh yeah NPH nailed this role. It's like he was born to play the toymaker.
    I can't lie, the balloon with the face that screamed choked a laugh out of me. Same with later when they asked the toymaker about the men on the roof and they said 'I think they're still falling.' And then you hear the faint thump of them hitting the bottom that was so morbidly timed that i had a weird laugh from that. The toymaker made that joke with great timing.
