I have been living in Houston, Texas for 40 years and I deeply appreciate you showing this! I never knew Galveston had such beautiful sites until now! Thank you so much 💓
@@AhmetSabriUzunpostalc Take beltway 8 south, then take the I45 South entrance. Once you're on I45, you go straight into Galveston. The Bishop's Palace and other major sites are on the street that I45 turns into. It's Broadway Street. If you want to go the Strand, make a left turn off of Broadway at 28th Street. It will take you right to it. If you want to get to the seawall, take the 61st Street exit and turn right on 61st. That will take you directly to the seawall.
We used to go to Galveston every wknd It has changed from the 70s but we sure had fun! The Tiki bar ( which was a moving hut on the beach ) had the best entertainment, musically and comedically
I live here and spent last weekend on the Strand for Dickens. An old classmates from school, works on the Alyssa. Saw her last weekend too, selling Christmas wreaths from the volunteers who take care of the ship. Grew up running the beaches of Galveston and walk on them often to get exercise. Good food places too and just welcomed about 600,000 bikers in Nov. for the Lonestar Rally. Come and enjoy this city.
Another great video. Encourage anyone visiting the island to learn about the Great Storm. The courage and resillience of the people of Galveston is a truly inspiring tale.
I used to live in downtown galveston as a bartender it was marvelous, all kinds of people from all kinds of walks of of life. If you’re hungry id suggest omallys, mama Theresas flying pizza, vargas cut & catch, and original Mexican cafe.
As a resident near Los Angels, these videos look like what LA was in the 1950’s - very clean. I hope to visit Galveston soon, especially that candy and ice cream shop.
Thanks a lot for your videos. I'm very interested in US history and your channel is a treat. Danke und viele Grüße aus 🇩🇪 You do have a new subscriber.
Loved this video. Thank you for featuring all the histórical homes I have always wanted to go into. Galveston is one place i want to return to again and again. One day i will stay in the Hotel Galvez if only for a night!
I went there in 2019 . It was nice in September the water was warm. But a lot of tropical depression and hurricanes. It didn't do well after the covid shutdown. Freeport is nice too.
Live this part of my country… Living in SE Texas, you should travel to Orange and check out some of the history over here. The Stark Foundation has a long list of nice historical properties. The Shangri La Botanical Gardens is the Creme of the crop! Thanks for this video!
They aren't that far from each other. San Antonio and Houston are about 200 miles apart. However, they all deserve several days of sightseeing and amusement parks. San Antonio has Sea World and Fiesta Texas. Not to mention The Alamo and the Riverwalk. Our Missions are now a designated World Heritage Site. Plus many other things to see and do: art museums, history museums, botanical garden, aquariums, etc.
Wow, they still run the trolley's? Awesome! I rode the trolley as a kid. I've been back to Galveston several times in recent years, but even though I always saw the trolley tracks still present, I never saw the trolley running. I was beginning to think they stopped running them. Did you go for a ride on the Colonel? It's the paddle wheeler shown at the end of your video. Long ago, the Colonel used to dock next to the Elissa. After Moody Gardens was built, the Colonel was relocated and became one of the Moody Gardens attractions. Another fun "attraction' is the ferry that takes you over the Port Bolivar. It's operated and maintained by the state. You can park and walk if you don't want to drive your car on. There is no charge. You get a good view of Seawolf Park and its distinctive pavilion Unless it's been demolished by now. It was in pretty bad shape last time I saw it and was roped off. Loved your video as always!
I wouldn't have thought that many homes and buildings built prior to the 1900 storm would still be standing today. They must have built hurricane proof without trying in those days although I would imagine some of them where mostly rebuilt.
My family used to visit Galveston in the '60s and '70s - staying at a motel along the beach. The routine when leaving and getting into the car was to dangle your legs out over the edge of the car, while mother washed the tar balls off the soles of your feet in a plastic basin. Oddly, I didn't nearly drown in the Gulf - it was in the motel swimming pool. I was barely older than a toddler, went down the slide and caught a mouth full of water. Not quickly coming up, a seemingly huge man grabbed me by both arms, and swooped me onto the pool deck. My father is pretty much like: "walk it off kid: sputter all of that water on out... " 😧
great video, I noticed a cruise ship in the background, I had no idea it was a cruise ship stopping point, I'm going to have to look into that for my next cruise location.
It's now one of the US largest cruise ports. Most of the ships do round trips to the Carribean. However, I did an 11 day partial transit of the Panama Canal cruise in March 2019. It was great.
And Carnival Jubilee will be home ported in Galveston. She's under construction and due to start sailing in 2023. She will use LNG fuel and is a sister of the Mardi Gras which started sailing this year. They are among the largest cruise ships in the world.
You missed the shared obelisk and gravesites of President Burnet and Gen. Sherman. It was the in the background as you were filming the Episcopal area.
I was hoping you'd show the JC League house. It's being saved from collapse by a youtube channel " restoreleaguehouse" Although the League house is a long way from being decorated, I bet Janie would love to show her challenges in saving the grand old home. She's just recently applied for 501 c-3 after realizing the project will outlive her.
Lived there for four years in Medical school, was very glad to leave it.We called it Galvatraz. The crime is horrendous- do NOT go out after dark. Literally everyone in our class was robbed, assaulted, had their car broken into or even a few killed. We were broken into 7 times in one year. It's also usually the Rape Capitol of Texas. And look up the video called " Kappa Weekend in Galveston". Shame in that it could be a very nice place ....if they cleaned it up and removed the ghettos
Yep. Shops on the strand at 23rd near alley, haunted..house i lived in for yrs on 33rd is haunted, He was curious, always around, day or night and I saw him mid Feb. on our last day living there.
Dolphin tour is something I enjoy. Kemah boardwalk ( close to Galveston from Houston) is a great spot. You can get a package deal with Houston aquarium, and pleasure pier ( 60 bucks I believe) , sliterbaun ( can’t spell lol) water park, ferry( free) and moody gardens are good venues.
Let’s hope it stays that way, we will find out in two months, get out there and vote on Nov 8. I shudder to think what will happen to Texas, should Robert Francis O’Rourke win…🫣
My grandson lives near corpus and goes there when he can. Great grandson, 10, just visited and stayed overnight on the ship in port, with his scout troop from Cypress.

There is some interesting local history there that is important to you Texans, for sure. But Galveston beaches and water are dirty brown, sludgy and gross. No other state along the gulf has anything close to that. It’s a very disappointing place. Hell, Mississippi coast and beaches are 100 times prettier, plus have exciting casinos.

@cameraman655 And the water is filled with fecal matter and beaches littered with trash. It is what it is
