Yeah looks like it! I got the heads off my spare 2.8 getting it ready to go in my truck, I looked at the plugs and shit was an 1 inch thick stuck to the plugs , and far as I know the engine never had any bars leak in it, is only a 100k engine , I almost think it's some kind of electrolysis, I have heard of coolant systems holding a small charge! Crazy shit bro! Good grounds are important!
They can be a pain no matter where you do them. We all know a perfect world and exactly the right tools rarely happens. Hope everything turned out good for you. I had a 98 for about 7 years, good reliable truck.
@@allhailinternalcombustion Yes. I installed a remanufactured engine from a local builder. They installed the seal in backwards. They did up some cash for my labor. And the 4.3 seal is not cheap $45 before tax.
@@darrellteague8629 What happened to the price on everything......lol. The rear seal on my 2.8 was $33. Parts prices are totally out of control and the quality just isn't there anymore. 4.3 is a good engine, I've seen a few hopped up ones that will give a small block a run for it's money.
Woo man those was some really bad freeze plugs lol and that shit that came out if the block ew that was really dark baby barf food colored coolant 😂 . I'd say she'll cool alpt better now with all that junk flushed and its probably to late now but that plug cap cover above with 3 10mm bolts is the cam cover with a thin cork gasket and those will fail and cause a messy oil leak and make you think a rear main seal is bad . I'll say dropping a manual trans is so much easier than a 700r4 or the others these came with cause ive done it all and now mines a 5-speed ill never go back . Still sucks on the ground but way lighter and easier than a automatic for sure . I own a 85 S10 2.8 5speed my self , not many people mess with 2.8s much anymore like i do . It's nice to have green coolant again......lol. I've put about 300 miles on the truck since the freeze plugs and it stays nice and cool even in stop and go traffic, so I'll call it a win. The T5 is the easiest, by far, to service in these trucks. My old 91S10 with the 4 cylinder had the 5 speed with the attached bell housing, that thing truly sucked to pull, it was almost as heavy as the automatic. Our 2.8 still has plenty of pep and it doesn't smoke or make noise, so it will live out it's life in the truck. I'm looking for a carbureted 2.8 intake so I can convert it and put an older distributor in it. Eventually it will get a small block Chevy after the 2.8 goes, but we will NEVER put an LS in ANYTHING in our shop or on this channel. @@allhailinternalcombustionI actually have a carb intake laying around . I filled it back up with clean used antifreeze from another project that wasn't driven much. It's been driven about 300 miles and I just checked the coolant, it was about a cup low, and it was still green. The engine also runs cool now, even in traffic. Yeah, doing it from the floor does suck, but we're just happy we have a concrete floor and aren't working in the mud anymore. And yeah, it was full of stop leak, we flushed the block for a good half hour before we put the new plugs in it.
Dude, why did you fill your block with Tang?
If it was Tang it would have tasted better.
The stuff in the coolant sticks to the plugs on the inside of the block and rots them out! I never seen anything like this though!
It was the worst I've seen. The previous owner probably spent more money on Bars Leaks than he did to fix the problem.

I just done a rear seal on my 97 five speed. It was hard enough, doing it on the lift.
