We work on cars, trucks, lawn equipment, and pretty much anything that runs on gasoline. We like to use a common sense, low dollar approach, when applicable. We will also be reviewing and making tools, once again not high dollar, but more geared to the do it yourself kind of person.
Ford 302, Final Bath Before The Build Starts
We're all finished boring and honing the block.....finally. We also deburred the outside of the engine, honed the lifter bores, chased all the bolt holes, and ran brushes through all the oil passages, so it's time for a good bath. We pre heated the block with a torpedo heater and scrubbed the whole thing down with Purple Power and took the block outside for a deep pressure washing. We brought it back in, heated it again, and used compressed air to blow all the water off the block and out of all the holes. Once the block was dry and toasty warm we put our first coat of Motor Coater on it, and it looks great so far.

2012 Hyundai Sante Fe - Complete Brake Job and Routine Maintenance
Просмотров 1421 час назад
We get to work on a 2012 Hyundai Sante Fe. A friend of ours owns this vehicle and she said there was a slight noise from the brakes when turning and the during her past inspection the shop said she would be needing pads and rotors soon. She also couldn't remember the last time the oil was changed or the vehicle was thoroughly serviced, so we figured we'd give it a good going over. We did an oil...

Finishing Up The Cylinders
Просмотров 54421 день назад
I'm putting the final finish on the cylinders in our 302. Our new Van Norman boring bar comes back out, I learned a few things that should have been obvious, and progress is made. I'm looking forward to finishing the block so I can move on to the transmission and getting our F150 back on the road.
Checking Rods and Mains For Out Of Round
Просмотров 283Месяц назад
Back to the 302 we're building for our 84 F150. Finally got the pistons cleaned up so I decided to check the rods to make sure they're still round and not stretched or misshapen from a rod knock the engine had before we took it off the road. I also checked the mains while I was at it. These are some final measurements that I wanted to do just to make sure I didn't need to order any more bottom ...

At first sounded like a nostalgia narrator in a movie
Great ideas gentlemen
is the paint oil and heat resistant? looking for a paint that wont flake off or rust through after a year. Cameraman sounds like meatwad from ATHF
@@jonathanbrown1120 It's supposed to be good up to 400°F and chemical resistant. We haven't tested it long term, this is our first time using it, but we're done with spray bombs for the reasons you listed. We love ATHF, and yes, I do a good Meatwad impersonation. Now I'm gonna go build a meat bridge.......
With age comes wisdom. Who the thought? Lol awesome.
Would love to see the details of this on a full video especially the internals of the cutting head. I recently got a hold of 1 777s and 4 944s boring bars including a cast iron table. Some need repairs but not much videos on that
I'll keep that in mind for the next time I pull it out. I couldn't find much info either. I do know that Beam carries some parts and the catalog/user manual on their site. They're the company I bought my indexable cutter from.....and love it. beamequipment.store/cylinder-block-equipment-and-tooling/cylinder-boring/van-norman-944-s-777-s/
wish i lived out there in peace
@@JohnDoe-ef3wo I spent most of my life in cities, including 8 years living in Washington DC, yeah, the peace and quiet is good for the soul. Hopefully you'll get to experience it for yourself.
I recently rebuilt a 4 cylinder engine. Bought a cheap Chinese 3" to 4" micrometer. The micrometer had 0.006" slop in barrel! Had to keep outward tension between anvil and hammer to get readings. Final piston clearance was 0.002" to 0.0022".
You should really hone .003-.004 out by hand with rough stone and then finish with a fine stone
@@speedmachinegarage I tried that on one cylinder and it seemed like it was taking too long, but maybe that's just me being impatient.
Best anvils I ever had. Found them in the scrap yard and the crane operater signaled me to put them in my truck.
@@williesweetjr8713 It's beneficial to deal with a cool scrapyard.
Can this welder hold larger spools than just the 1lb? Can it hold the 2lb spools?
I'm pretty sure it only takes the 1lb. spools. There's not a lot of space under the hood for much bigger.
Thats something a lot of home builders overlook.
@@10W40InMyVeins I'm being a little OCD, I really want this engine to last.....so I can build other engines. 😁
Great score!
Ele vai fazer uma bigorna e mexer no motor. Entendi tudo. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
They are one of the biggest reasons I can afford to do what i do too! No shame in my cheap tool game!
@@williesweetjr8713 Agreed. And it's the reason we can afford multiples of the same tools.....since we can never seem to find most of them.
If you are a home gamer HF is a value. Too many who talk c&&& don't do any of the work. A new 100 tooth HF ratchet beats my 50 yr old snap on 48 tooth. Thank you.
@@waiting4aliens Tools have come a long way over the years, plus when I break one I only have to drive 10 minutes to get a replacement instead of waiting for a truck to stop by. And we all know......ANY tool can be broken
Good luck 👍🏿
there is your problem it ain't got no gas in it.
@@bruceforsman4812 It's even worse, it ain't even got an engine........
Back in 2000 I was lucky enough to have the BEST GM trans guy rebuild my ST300 for my 67 LeMans and to this day it is still running like a champ!
This was the best GM guy in Mobile Alabama.
@@lindacook891 They are great transmissions. We've had a few people inquire about ours since we plan on going to a 4 speed.
Can you convert an edelbrock carb from an electric choke to a manual?
@@TheRareCriticalThinker Yes you can. They sell kits to convert it either way. Most electric chokes are hit or miss. They open way too fast, or way too slow.
crank looks good the little divits will fill up with oil and never affect anything
Happy little oil reservoirs......
@@allhailinternalcombustion exactly
Cylinders look pretty good. The slag on that block was pretty heavy it'll look much better when it's all gone.
@@reaper20015 Yeah, I'd be cussing myself later if I left that slag on there. Thanks for watching!
By chance do you have the part number for the new freeze plugs? Thanks
@@AydenLewis777 I got the Pioneer set, part number PE165. They're listed as "expansion plugs".
@@allhailinternalcombustionany chance you know the size of the 3 you changed in the video
@@AydenLewis777 No. I didn't measure them before I put them in.
Smoke much 😂
@@jerryterry6895 As much as would be expected with a flux core.
Man that sucks but you are experienced now have you thought about sleeving the block
@@oldmanintheshopbuiltnotbou8726 No. We have a local salvage yard with plenty of engines at super low prices so we're gonna grab a long block. We needed heads and a crank anyway so that's going to be a perfect fix. Plus I don't want our next video to be how I screwed up again and my sleeves rattle. 😅
That sucks. It would have been good to have a junk block to practice on.
@@markwilhelm168 Agreed, but out of all our blocks that one was one was expendable. Plus I have 4 more bores to practice on.
Do you have a video on how to change the spoiler? Where is the third brake light at?
No we don't. The transmission finally crapped out on it and we sent it off to it's final resting place.
I like using easy off it does work good like you said don't breathe it and get it on you😊
@@oldmanintheshopbuiltnotbou8726 Remember when engine degreaser used to actually "degrease" things, then they took all the good stuff out of it.
Shop were I currently work uses Snap On welder, but i would like to get me own welding machine i like the Lincoln i feel more free to do my work but i was wondering which one to get
@@DespiertaVe That's going to entirely depend on what you plan on using it for. Smaller "hobby" style welders are good universal units, but they can be brutal on sheet metal. The 90 we reviewed is my go to for everything exhaust pipe and up, my other unit with argon is my sheet metal unit that I do use on heavier work where I don't want all the spatter.
That was a great score. You found some stuff that's almost impossible to come by anymore.
I think the 318 it replaced was better. I've had a couple 4.7 and they all seem to use a lot of oil. The are easy motors to work on tho.
@@BigBadJones We couldn't find any 4.7's that were any good so the owner decided to buy a 318 crate motor to throw in it. Now we just have to find a computer, distributor, oil pan and silly stuff. Unfortunately we're not going to put a carburator on it, the owner is a fuel injection kinda guy.
@@allhailinternalcombustion did he go with a magnum or la?
@@BigBadJones I think it will be a magnum. I haven't talked to him, but I'm sure he's going to stick with the engine from the same year the truck was made.
@@allhailinternalcombustion yeah. It would be a magnum then. I'm converting a magnum to carb for my project.
@@BigBadJones We have an 86 W250 that someone Magnum swapped. We put an intake, HEI, and Edelbrock 600 on it. We don't drive it much, but anytime we need it we just dump a little gas down the carb and it fires right up. The 318 was one of the most reliable Chrysler engines.
Nice video I have a AVS 2 going on my 69 250 I had Holly's on previously I was looking for the little brass locking screw on the choke lever 🤔. Now I see edelbrock needs a L bent into the cable thanks Dude .
Thanks for watching. I hope it goes well with your swap/upgrade. You're gonna love not spilling fuel every time you have to service floats or swap jets. What engine is in your 250?
Make me one and I'll buy it!
I always forget this is going on, we could have taken the kids.
Yeah, I've never seen too many advertisements for the show.
Great video!
Thanks, and thanks for watching.
These modern engines are also sh!t. With their plastic intakes. Come on who would use frikken plastic for any engine component
Agreed. Plastic intakes, valve covers, timing covers..... it's all just silly.
Me and my friends grew working on our hot rods during the 80’s and 90’s. We’d swap motors, trannys etc. it was great fun. Taught me a ton. Now that I’m in my 50’s the cars seem more difficult to work on. There’s no room to remove parts. Like they’re made for little Asian hands instead of larger American hands.
Everything is so over engineered, that takes the fun out of it. We have a 91 Honda that we love, and it has room for our meat hooks. They want to make us dependent on dealerships with these modern disposable vehicles.
I built a Yamaha XS400 about 15 years ago. I remember doing this to get the exhaust to fit when I hard tailed the frame. I think I used conduit to fab mine up.
Wow, and that thing supposedly ran?
Yes, it probably did. Our 302 we pulled out of our 84 was just as bad, had a rod knock, but it ran.
That's what's great about not winter. Between regular shows, swap meets, and cars and coffee's happening everywhere there's always something goin on for car culture.
You're right about that, especially here in PA. Carlisle shows all spring and summer, Hershey, great place to be a car person.
I forget where things go when I do a job myself, I'd hate to have to play "where's that go" with someone else's work.
We'll be playing quite a few rounds of "will this bolt work there.....no....longer/shorter"?
It can be rough finishing what someone else started. You have to figure out what goes where, find all the bolts, and then you don't even know if it will run when you're finished. Good luck with that.
It's gonna take some figuring out. Thanks for watching!
If you had a Buick, it would have come with a variable pitch torque converter.
There were a lot of variations of transmissions going on in the 60's just in the GM family, all good designs though that could take a fair amount of abuse.
Really like that blue Olds 442! Thanks for sharing!!
Olds did make some really nice cars back in the day. Thanks for watching.
Some nice rides there for sure!
How was is installing the tank that you have on there
Not too hard. I had to make a couple brackets to lift it slightly above the "backbone" of the frame.
The stuff in the coolant sticks to the plugs on the inside of the block and rots them out! I never seen anything like this though!
It was the worst I've seen. The previous owner probably spent more money on Bars Leaks than he did to fix the problem.
Yeah looks like it! I got the heads off my spare 2.8 getting it ready to go in my truck, I looked at the plugs and shit was an 1 inch thick stuck to the plugs , and far as I know the engine never had any bars leak in it, is only a 100k engine , I almost think it's some kind of electrolysis, I have heard of coolant systems holding a small charge! Crazy shit bro! Good grounds are important!
I am from China engine factory, do you need?
never understood why people wont service a motor
You know how most people have been for the past 20 years or more, everything is disposable, treat it like trash, then throw it away.
Great job guys!
Thanks. It seems good engines are getting hard to find, everything we get our hands on is fragged and needs a lot more than we originally planned.
Definitely time consuming, but so are trips back and fourth to the auto parts store hoping to find the right piece. Thanks for watching!
