This perfume is exactly how women in Europe used to smell like who were young in the 1930s. It reminds me of the young version of my grandma, her elegant cousin who used to live in an art deco mansion which was one of the few houses in the city not destroyed during the war. I imagine Marlene Dietrich smelling like that. It propels me back to my childhood, but by now, having become a mother and a professor in the meantime, going through a pandemic and sharing our house with refugees from the war 900km away from us, it became my signature fragrance. It's a perfect match for my current me.

I love this perfume, and the novel it's named after. It smells to me of a more glamorous era, when women wore silk stockings and no outfit was complete without gloves and a hat. Men wore tailored suits and hats. We've lost that glamor today, but thanks Guerlain for giving us this reminder of what we're missing. And let's not forget how far we've come in other ways!
Also, I agree with you that this is an entirely unisex fragrance. It's elegance in a bottle, for anyone who chooses to wear it. I think I remember reading that Katharine Hepburn wore this perfume and I love that. She was always elegant and unique.

The Extrait is breathtakingly beautiful. It‘s so strong you really have to dab it on. If you can believe the biopic „Jackie“, Jackie Kennedy also wore the Extrait of Vol de Nuit.

Great review as always! Just bought a bee EDT bottle of Apres l'Ondee and the juice is mindblowing! Don't know how the new formulations of these monumental fragrances smell like, but my Apres l'Ondee is fantastic! Hope we get a review from you for this one soon enough!

That wasn't the original bottle design. That's Mitsouko's original design. The first iteration of Vol de Nuit was a dark straw green square bottle with a gold propeller on it

The writer was a personal friend of the perfume maker. What I don't like is putting words into "mouths" of others. Pardon. You don't know what any of them thought or moralise. Pushing political opinions into others or people we don't know what they think or said about is not polite.

Insolence!
I’ve been eyeing a vintage bottle for quite some time. I have been diving into the classic Guerlains like L’Heure Bleue and Mitsouko lately because they are works of art and should be experienced for any perfumista. Shalimar however is one that has always been a favorite and staple for me. I first fell in love with it as as a teen. I find it to be a comforting sent and it triggers some sort of past life memory or nostalgia. Maybe I’m just an old soul. Now as far as Vol de Nuit, it has been the most mysterious and intriguing of all of them to me in regards to my curiosity for it! I have not tested it yet, but when I do I want it to be a vintage first. The notes seem agreeable to me, especially carnation, and I look forward to experiencing it. Hopefully I haven’t idealized or romanticized it so much in my mind and from research that it ends up crashing and burning upon first sniff. With that being said, I trust your opinion and the way you translate your interpretation of perfume to us. Thank you so much for that! 🫶🏽
