One of the best two parters in this show and it shows how good David Tennant is
"SHUT UP. STOP TALKING. CEASE AND DESIST. THERE'S A GOOD GIRL." Love it. Definitely the line from Doctor Who I've quoted the most. Me and my sister used it for years to shut each other up! Also any time Viserys confronted anyone in GoT! XD
ClarIs I love the Son of Mine so much. Hands down my favourite villian from Tennant's era.
Actually my favorite Villians of Tennant's era. Very original and fun. I
When I see a red balloon 🎈 I think of Daughter-of-mine before I think of It.
Holy shit Viserys Targaryen was bullying Jojen Reed
"These guys are such a threat that he has to change"
*Laughs knowingly*
Chuckles along knowingly.
Chuckles along pretending to know what's going on. 😅
*Joins in with laughter*
*starts cackling uncontrollably*
Starts coughing cause I laughed too much
Martha Jones actually becomes The Doctor and he; the clueless human companion. The hard backbreaking work she endured at that time, under those conditions.. Martha was extraordinarily heroic and phenomenal. Not only keeping him and the Tardis safe, in a time when women, and especially those of colour were subject to abuse and bigotry.. but doing so without super powers or another companion to lighten the load.
Its not the only time she rightfully outshines the Doctor. Just wait.
For half your comment, I thought you were talking about the series 3 finale. Just goes to show how Martha has always been a major badass, doing what most people wouldn't have the strength to do for the good of others, even if she has to do it all alone...
Martha is the best.
Man I love this two-parter so much. The Family plot is really fun, and I love all of the undertones related to World War I looming on the horizon. Just great stuff. *Sniiiff*
(Also yeah nobody eats sardines and jam, it was just a disgusting combination Martha came up with because she suspected the girl wasn't human)
Good ol Viserys
God damn I knew he looked familiar.
PCGaming and jojen reed!
He could really use that golden crown about now.
The book this is based on is much darker. It was written for the 7th Doctor and Benny was his companion, a classic combo. The upperclassmen actually hanged the young kid and killed him in the book but was brought back to life by the Doctor’s artifact. This two parter is a really good adaptation but the book Human Nature is a fantastic read for anyone that is in to Doctor Who.
Atharv Sankholkar the “New Adventure” series had a much darker, adult vibe. The 7th Doctor was the most manipulative Doctor of all time. Unfortunately his companions ended up getting caught up in his machinations. Poor Ace! The books made between the end of the series in 1989 and the TV movie indulged in some darker themes. The New Adventures starring the 7th Doctor (and later with Bernice Summerfield on her own) and the 8th Doctor stories are incredible additions to the Doctor Who universe.
David's acting in this two parter is freaking amazing, especially in the second part. Gets me every time.
6:08 With that line, I can't wait until next week where we find out he wasn't 'running away'
Also, the Son of Mine is my favourite villain from Tennant's era; I love him so much.
I was actually thinking the same thing when he said that.
I know I am 5 years late to this comment but cool fact the actor that plays the son is the great great great grandson of Charles Dickens, not the actor from The Unquiet Dead the REAL Charles Dickens
Another little Easter Egg that only really, *really* nerdy Who fans would get, when John Smith said his parents were named Sydney and Verity, after Sydney Newman, the Head of Drama at the BBC at the time who came up with the concept, and Verity Lambert, the show's first producer.
I never realized that.
I Z Wait so are you saying that you watched An Adventure In Space and Time and while you were watching you remembered one little line in another episode?
#votesaxon
SAXON 2020
iKaroliina tap tap tap tap
here come the drums
@@DeadPyro96 its 2020, wheres your Saxon now? HA HA HA HA
@@jamesaturner9649 I wish he just came and ended this whole shitshow at this point.
These two episodes are some of the best of Tennant's career as an actor. Fantastic performance.
This story is one of my favorites from Ten's era, shows how really good of an actor David Tennant is. I haven't read the Seventh Doctor Virgin New Adventures novel it's based on though, but i might since it has Benny Summerfield
Zak Rosenfeld This was one week ago
this reply was 1 hour ago
Daniel Smith Patreon supporters get the reaction a week earlier
that boy with the black hair that gets posessed was viserys in game of thrones
I don't know how I never connected the two, I watched GoT muuuuch later but it explains why I hated his face. lol
The "son" in the family is played by Harry Lloyd, who went on to play Viserys in _Game of Thrones,_ among other things.
I knew Jojen was in this but I never realized Viserys was too!!
Tim was also Liam Neeson’s drums-playing son in “Love Actually.”
So, we finally made it. My favourite Doctor Who story of all time.
Off the Cuff Same
Visenyes Targaryan is in this episode too
No wonder they wanted to punch him in the face
Damo2690 I KNEW I recognized that bastard
...and he got killed off almost immediately.
damn I thought he looked familiar
And Daemon Targaryen showed up in a lot of episodes
This is probably my favorite 2-parter in modern Doctor Who. I absolutely love it!
*_"Dany please!"_*
EloImFizzy OMG I read that in his voice!! Lol
I love how quickly Martha was able to detect something was wrong with her friend. Meanwhile Rose goes on a date with plastic Mickey.
it's not a military school, just a standard private school of the time. corporal punishment was standard in all uk schools up until the 1980's.
You'll find out in the next part why the Doctor ran instead of fighting them.
Well Jojen Reed, but have you noticed that he talks to Viserys Targaryen? :-D
Next is the 'being kind' episode...
HELL YEAH!
Oh, they talked over the Gallifrey
-Face palm-
I agree that they're talking to much, but Eric was the one who wasn't paying attention to the Gallifrey line. Aaron popped to attention when he heard Gallifrey.
Kevin Dean Well Aaron has an excuse, since he's seen it.
Fun fact about this episode and its follow-up: It's actually an adaptation of an expanded universe novel the author of the episodes wrote for the Seventh Doctor in the long hiatus between seasons. He was offered the chance to adapt the story by Russell T Davies (who also wrote some EU novels at the same time), and by God am I glad he did.
This two parter is my absolute favourite. Everything about is amazing. The story, the characters, the villains, the acting. Next episode had a bit of an emotional gut-punch. Makes me cry everytime.
This two parter actually has great baddies. Very original ones for doctor who. One of my favorite episodes of ten.
4 more outstanding episodes in a row to go, it's gonna be awesome!
Gibbzee Come On Family Of Blood, Utopia, The Sound Of Drums And Last Of The Timelords Are Masterpieces don’t saying Blink is good because it’s not
Gibbzee 5 more, Last of the Timelords is good too.
The tactical Shark That's not what it is at all though. The Master created the Archangel network to subdue the human race using a psychic signal to convince them he was Harold Saxon and vote for him. In the year since The Doctor was enslaved by The Master, he was busy trying to psychically integrate himself into the network. At the same time Martha was travelling the world telling stories about The Doctor giving them hope. Martha was also eventually captured by The Master and he started the countdown to launch his war fleet on the universe. Martha had told everyone she had met to think about The Doctor simultaneously once the countdown started. Using the combined psychic energy of the people, projected and amplified by the 15 satillites that make up the Archangel network, it channels it all to The Doctor, rejuvenating him.
I'm not trying to say it was the perfect ending and was completely satisfactory but within the context of the story, it made complete sense. A lot of people say the science of it is far fetched but this is Doctor Who. Some suspension of disbelief is required. The religious overtones are also a bit heavy-handed but again, it isn't nearly enough to ruin the story for me. Utopia/The Sound of Drums/Last of the Timelords is still a great finale.
OMIGOSH WAIT. I TOTALLY FORGOT UNTIL NOW BUT I HAVE HIS JOURNAL FROM THIS EP
A strawman fallacy is defined as being when you restate someone else's argument, and distort it or reword it, so that it has obvious easy to refute flaws. You create a copy of your opponent out of straw, and attack them instead of your argument, so to speak.
Person 1 makes a claim.
Person 2 resates that claim, but rephrases it so as to be obviously wrong, and then states that that proves the claim is false.
The young actor who plays Baines as like a tiny Tim Curry I love his silly yet funny performance!
Fun fact: Harry Lloyd, who played Baines in this two-parter, is a great-great-great-grandson of Charles Dickens! Also, not all school teachers in the UK wear caps and gowns, particularly not in the state sector. This story was based in a Public School with the standards of the Georgian era (note Public School is what we call our private boarding or day schools in this country). It would have been standard practice for Public School teachers to wear a cap and gown in the 1910s, but not state. Even these days some teachers in schools like Eton College and Harrow School wear caps and gowns, but not universally. If you went to school in this country, teachers would just be wearing ordinary shirts, suit trousers and Oxfords. Maybe a suit at most.
Utopia is coming boys!!!!!!!
The Family of Blood and the Episode after it (Blink) are some of my favorite Doctor who episodes of all time.
This two parter and the episode after are some of the best episodes of the entire show. Absolutely incredible 10/10s.
This two parter is one of the greatest episodes in Doctor who. Enjoy it.
Funny that you realised one guest star was Jojen Reed but didn't realise Baynes was Dani's brother who got a crown of gold..
That is not only a "good heavens" kind of guy, but you can bet he also says "by jove"
That tiny bit of movement you see out of the corner of your eye, that’s her. Really stuck with me 😂
It's funny that you mention Jojen, seeing as Viserys (sniffy guy) is also in the episode.
Aw man! This is a great two-parter. Can't wait for your reaction to the second part. It gets much more emotional and deep. The feels are real in this two-parter. :D
Yes been waiting for this all day. Merry Christmas guys. Love your videos.
Can't wait till the season 3 finale and season 4s Stolen Earth
This two parter is one of my all-time favorites
The last three episodes of this season are really good! Can’t wait for you to see it!
David Tennant plays three roles in this pair of peisodes: the Doctor, John Smith, and the Doctor pretending to be John Smith - the Doctor's John Smith is subtly different from David Tennant's.
What I love about Doctor Who is the attention to detail to the tiniest things: in this episode, there's a certificate on John Smith's study wall showing that he passed a course - not seen it yet, by the time I get this far into the episode I forget to look.
If you want a further scarecrow-Doctor Who connection, try "Worzel Gummidge" - Brit kid's series, based on books about a scarecrow played by Jon Pertwee
It’s so tragic how it feels like the doctor just always wanted Rose back and always thought of her
calvin's story about the noise is sooooo true, I used to be in the same situation every saturday night, it was horrible hearing that noise - similar to an alarm clock or something...
Everyone giving different, wrong definitions of a "strawman argument" killed me inside.
Holy Coincidence I literally just got done catching up on the doctor who reactions and this pops up! Nice!
They’re ripping on Charles Dickens’ literal great, great grandson (Harry Lloyd)😂.
Who else is anticipation 3x10?
What's 3X10
BlackTempleGaurdian If it's a certain Doctor-Lite, then I know one "guy" that isn't. He's getting better though; being more polite and calm.
3x10 is probably one of the best known episodes, but I look forward to a different companion-lite episode, 4x10.
Everything from this to the end of the season are a very strong stretch of episodes.
All three of them
By far my favourite episode(s) of David Tennant. Absolutely love this story, and everything about it.
Okay I'm going to have one of my biggest nerd moments ever... A straw man argument is when you debunk a false interpretation of someone else's argument.
With a strawman argument you often misinterpret the argument to make a more simplified version that is easier to defeat
I love how often I recognize actors from Game of Thrones, Harry Potter, and other Britishy things on Doctor Who.
James Fisherkeller acting in an episode of doctor who is basically a rite of passage for British actors coming out of academies. Show’s going on 60 years old after all
Its good reviewing this one again. Haven't seen it in years..
Can I just say how much I appreciate the guy who played Son of mine? He did such an amazing fucking job.
Don't eat pears
Eric "Granted" The Teacher "permission granted" Eric "really!" That made me laugh so much.
The next episode brings it all together like you won't believe!
Paul Cornell is a really good writer, shame he didn't write much else.
He wrote more, but this is his only TV story.
Yeah, I know. Probably should have elaborated.
Ahh, yeah. Forgot about Farther's Day. Thanks for reminding me.
+Blind Wave You guys may not have know but the guy with the wired face is Harry Lloyd who also was in Game of Thrones as Viserys Targaryen
some of the script writers are so much better than others
This is the first of two BRILLIANT episodes.
Lol these guys are such a threat. He was being kind.
I remember watching GoT and being stuck on where I'd seen Viserys before, then I rewatched early New Who and saw Baines. That's where I'd seen him before
The Doctor didn’t cut out his other heart he just turned it off, Timelords can survive with just one heart like how humans can survive with just one kidney
Oh! The next serie is one of my favorite! Hope it's gonna be great reaction.
Guys, they’re 2 episodes away. Finally
It's worth mentioning, if nobody has already, that this story was actually a reworked version of a Doctor Who novel from the early 90s called Human Nature orginally starring Sylvester McCoy's Seventh Doctor. Paul Cornell, writer of this two-parter, also wrote the novel. I haven't read it myself but it's still in print.
This is one of my favourite episodes.
After this two parter we have one more episode before the final story of the season which is technically a three parter but they split episode 11 apart from 12 and 13
1 more episode and then no blinking time! Allons-y!
I’d never clocked that the son of mine was viserys Targaryen until today and now I can unsee it 😂
2 words, Wersal Gummage. Who is coincidently played by the former Doctor Who actor Jon Pertwee.
This is my favourite story of DW of all time
I can ease your worry. I picked up the dead man's change.
Poor Martha she got the short end of the stick. I always wondered why RTD seemed to hate her.
Psammead Sand Yeah obsession wirh Rose really annoyed me after awhile.
one of the best episodes ever
How cool is it that we have Jojen and Viserys on the same episode?
13:34 Lol!!! That was quick!
I can’t wait for them to get to Matt Smith’s and Peter Capaldi’s eras.
13:34 - SHANE: "Why would I want a smaller...." PWAH PWAH PWAH PWAAAH!
Best thumbnail ever.
Jojen Reed? More importantly, he's Simon from Nanny McPhee
these are my 2 favorite episodes of season 3
Next week: The fury of the Timelord
This is an all-time great.
This episode does have interesting mystery elements.
A straw man is when you missrepresent the opposing argument as a weaker/ worse one and then argue against that one
two game of thrones people in this they recognized one of them, and made fun of the other's creepy face lol.
Awesome Vid once again! I love all the series and shows you react to but I realized.... you haven't watch RWBY in a long while...
you were too busy talking you missed his slip of the tongue/memory slip when Joan asked "John" where he was from. He says Gallifrey. That along with the split second reaction when the piano was falling shows that the Doctor is just under the surface.
Can’t wait for episode 10 🙈
You're both right about the Straw Man.
Def in my top 10 episodes.
