As someone who studied architecture and became completely disillusioned with design and the industry, your videos are a much needed breath of fresh air and a sense of inspiration
I like how you explain why you made the choices you did in a way that can apply to everyone, rather than just explaining as it pertains to the room. I feel like that's rare, and I really appreciate it.
i cant tell you how helpful this feedback is. i can never tell when im talking too much (it is often too much) and so i cut out about 20 extra minutes of me explaining my approach to design choices. but if it's helpful, i'll try leaving more in next time!

@@bgholmq i can agree more... i learn so much watching her videos... and little by little my view on design have change... even muy friends notice it... so THANK YOU so much @ Caroline
I’ve been watching design videos for more than a year to educate myself for a recent reno of the small house we’ve lived in for 17 years. I learned more in this 15 minutes than I have in what likely adds up to hundreds of hours reading and watching other things. And I was entertained and smiling the whole time. Thank you! Merry Christmas from Ontario.
thanks for explaining how your mind works when planning the layout and everything! would you talk more about lighting, lamps, etc? it's the thing I find the least intuitive, and I think you do a great job with it (you rocked the bold choices on your kitchen makeover). thanks so much for the great content this uear! happy holidays!!!
I feel like in these guest room makeovers nobody ever includes blackout window treatments! I don’t care how cute a room is, if there’s only some see through linen curtains, people won’t be able to sleep which is the whole point! So I love that you called that out
I agree, but I've also started to not use them for the past month or so. I find that it helps me wake up in the mornings! Something about the gradual shift in light really helps my body prepare for waking up and then I do, less tired.
I think the thing I enjoy the most about your design style is that the room always looks like it's always been that way, cozy and homey but also new and clean. You have a wonderful eye for color and decor.
Caroline you are so gifted! The room is absolutely stunning--elegant, cozy, harmonious, serene and inviting--just perfect. You've really upleveled your game in the past year. Looking forward to your next endeavors. Merry Christmas!
bb! you're making me blush. we're always evolving! i hope to keep learning and improving. and most of all i am so, so glad you love the transformation.
This is a great example of showcasing YOUR particular approach to design, with the specific commentary on your styling choices, and the reasons behind those choices. (I like: working with what you have---size of room---and bringing in the thrift store items, as well as things that were already owned). The final result really demonstrates your taste in decor, and is perhaps your best "how to" video yet.
@@Caroline_Winkler Sure thing. While my personal approach to my own surroundings is quite different from your traditional sensibility, I can appreciate it when you "nail it" in achieving your ends. Despite all the waiting involved with this project, the guest room works on so many levels.....you've pulled it all together!

Your Mom is incredible and so vibrant. I can see where you get some of your delightful personality . Thank you again so much for all the education and creativity. YOU ROCK!
I love this room because it's not 'too': not overdecorated, not underdecorated, just enough color (especially the wallpaper and touches of red), just enough furniture to be comfortable but not crowded. The personal touches give it a 'soul'.
I love that you used your grandmother’s chest. I’ve been so inspired by your style that I pulled some of my grandpa’s oil paintings that weren’t already hanging in my parents’ house and now I can’t for the life of me figure out how to make them work. Your explanation of using height, tension, and asymmetry is SUPER helpful. Absolutely stunning work, Caroline. Frohe Weihnachten fur deine ganze Familie und Guten Rutsch!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
I love this room, Caroline! It is so inviting, and it requires NOTHING of its occupant. It makes you feel like a welcome guest. Not every room can do that!
One of the most unique and wonderful things about your channel is that you have such an abundance of knowledge that we actually learn SO much while just being entertained. Not many RUclipsrs/content creators have that balance. It's always such a joy to watch your videos!
Serendipity! I just found your channel a few days ago, just watched part 1 YESTERDAY, and was pissed there was no part 2 because I LOVE this room. In fact, you found the wallpaper I’m now going to use in my dining room. I’m in love. ❤❤❤ So happy to have found your channel!!
I ❤️ everything about this classy room makeover. Favorite element is your Grammy's cabinet and the fact that you and your Mom collabed on this project. Shes so sweet! And you're so talented, Caroline!
Love it! And love how you explain your reasons for your choices - it makes so much sense and is really helpful. I thought the pic above the bed was too small with the mirrors but now I understand why - thank you! Have a wonderful Christmas from another Caroline in Scotland! 🎄🏴🥂❤️🎁
I felt the same way about the picture between the mirrors....and I still want it turned horizontal instead of vertical. Everything else is SO cozy and I'm turning into a wallpaper fan!
@@kathybell4878 I get and use the point of tension but I would still put a frame a couple more inches wider on that space, but that is just my personal taste.
My first of many. I love your ART and encouragement, sharing, and opening up my mind in retirement. I loved seeing you with your mum. Such an inspiration to me. Thank you..
So tasteful and charming. I love your traditional take on designing. Growing up in Austria we were swamped with cold modern bauhaus and IKEA. So seeing you bringing back graceful design and simple beauty is delightful !
If you ever want to make a video with tips on how to design a room, any one room, that would be so dope. I know interior designers make a whole thing out of selling courses on their particular school of thought, and it’s probably a big project for a video, but I know a lot of us would eat up any insight into your process that we could apply to our own homes. (Obvs in addition to all the insights you give us weekly!) Like do you start with a color palette, or a purpose, or artwork (hey Sophie Ashby), or do you start in the middle of the room (hello Rita Konig). Where do you spend money and where do you save? You get the idea! We moved into a new house 8 months ago and I am a bit stuck on where to begin with making our house feel like a home. No major upgrades needed yet, but how do I pick a room and then decide how to make it our own, ya know?? You are da coolest! Byeeee
Oh Caroline! It was well worth the wait!! So cozy and BEAUTIFUL. Love it!! I love that you wallpapered the entire room vs. an accent wall. Love the thrifted and sentimental items. LOVE the swivel rocking chair, so many thoughtful touches. One little thing, (not to be taken as a criticism, just an awareness) I know several people that suffer from chemical sensitivities that instead of perfume or air freshener would just appreciate the scent of the freshly laundered (in fragrance free degergents) linens and the greenery from the garden. 😊 I feel like this is your Christmas gift to us! Thank you! 🤗🎄🎁🎍💚
Classic, practical, simply elegant. Isn't that alabaster? Once found a table base like that, abandoned against a fence. Took six months to remove two layers of paint without compromising details. Left the iron bare, it wouldn't rust in Phoenix. Round table top that size, cherry stain and paste wax from Lowes, it came out perfectly.
The wallpaper is everything. It’s a beautiful room; I love the mixing of colors throughout the room. Your tip about eliminating a dresser and using oversized nightstands instead is a gem and I will be using that idea for sure.
Wow, Caroline! You just outdid yourself! The room is just beautiful. I love wallpaper, and I feel that this wallpaper is the crown jewel of the room. You are so talented, and you make such smart choices in your design elements. I feel like I’m getting a free education in interior design by a master! I want to stay in this room! You can tell that your mom greatly approves. You may need some kind of light in the reading nook area for nighttime. Merry Christmas to you and your beautiful family!
Awww so cute you and your mama! ❤ I like those family pieces in there. Sometimes I feel like we’re moving too much into robot, cookie cutter styles. There’s definitely something special about heirloom pieces!
Great job- your comment on tension is spot on - as an interior designer its hard to explain that. I get your vibe - its fresh! not labouring over an exact match on the side dresser is the right way to do it.
This is beautiful. Part 1 was the first of your videos that I saw. I'll admit I was shocked and concerned (I'm 76 years of age) about the way you spoke around your mother but I loved your design and still do. Thanks for the Christmas reveal.
I love EVERYTHING about this room. It is stunning!!! I'd like to copy and paste the style into my living room or do something similar with burgundy, green, pink, grey and white colours. You've got an incredible talent of pairing things. Even the smallest details like the two books on the table and a vase on top is sooo elegant. And your grandmas console fits so well with the whole style of the room, like it was made for it!!
I love your perspective on how mindful the styling process can be, and tuning in to how something makes you feel. That is exactly what I do because the last thing we need is floating anxiety because we didn't take the time to style this way.
I love the whole space, love the style and the wall paper, I understand the adoration, it give so much to the space, it feels so cozy 🥰 I do still feel the tension between the two mirrors, I think I would keep it that way but add hanging plants there to break the empty space but keep it airy and light at the same time
Omg I just discovered you! I was looking for another interior design influencer to follow to expand my several favorites and got drawn in with your quirky, hilarious commentary. I was shocked and delighted to learn how knowledgeable you are in interior design, tech, as well as other areas, how you’re able to illustrate your design concepts and how you made the choices you did along the course of the transformation, and translate them so completely to us whether we’re renters (me) or homeowners. Impressive. I hope you do a lot more interior design videos.
One, this room looks amazing, so nice to see it finished. Two, I am a bow fiend and I love your bow. Great color, nice drape and texture, looks great on you, love it! Everything in this video is stylin'!
Your videos are super inspiring! It's refreshing to see a designer making creative decisions while listening to their intuition. I'm also pretty sensitive (being mindful and listening to my own response and experience to find the right answer: "is this annoying? Or does this feel right?" is my go-to starting point now. Seeing your thought processes and reasoning behind the creative decisions are very enlightening. Even when you *know* that you *don't know* why a certain decision feels better, you talk about that and have helped me understand how to utilize that mysterious little intuitive voice in my head and to just be mindful and have a positive and playful experience with it. I'm finding way more satisfaction and way less frustration and anxiety in the process of designing my place. 💕
As someone who watches your videos but never comments, let me just say that was damn cute!! The makeover, your mom, the hanky panky… everything. And the furniture piece from your grandma, that was my favorite part. Thank you for being you.
I had absolutely no doubt this room would be a show stopper. You have the talent girl, truly amazing job!!!! Merry Christmas & a wonderful New Year to you & your family.
You are such an inspiration. Love the wallpaper, the curtains, using what you have. It all works together! The discussion on the tension...how cool was that. Must remember that!! I will rewatch this many times to inspire courage in myself to do something about my lackluster spaces (it's not their fault), and my increasingly fatalistic attitude about my house. This was just what I needed. The kitchen makeover will be on replay as well.
Been waiting for this and.....not disappointed! Such a beautiful room. The placement of the bed was the perfect choice as it allowed for the mirrors which brought in more lovely light and the chair in the window corner to see the garden. Beautiful!
Caroline you’re such a breath of fresh air. I know your Mom doesn’t appreciate your “ language @ but you have the best heart. You’re so easy to love. Amanda’s Mercantile recommended you and I’m so glad I found you.
Yes! Part 2 is here! The room looks fantastic, it must feel so good to be done. Knowing designers and artists though, you never really feel done, do you? Constantly editing!
Caroline, every single piece in that room is my favorite piece! Yes, the throw blanket is the perfect contrasting design in the perfect tying-in color palette, but also the throw pillow provides exactly the right amount of pillowishness in the perfect shape; the artwork is distributed ideally to give the eye space to roam; the wallpaper, bedside tables, and drapery give the room a bit of Colonial Williamsburg -- but the floral console table insists not! I would get irate if a guest adjusted a single accent piece! So Happy Christmas.
Such a gift of love for your mom. That's why she smiles, because you put so much love and your own heart into the room that used to be your childhood room. When our kids grow up and leave (I have one out, one half out at college and 3 at home), parts of them remain and it touches a special place for a mom. This design is such a gift and I love it. ❤️
I love the way you explain your thought process. Seeing an aerial drawing of the room with the options for positioning the bed and reading nook relative to the windows was so helpful. Your clear explanations keep me coming back to your channel!
Swoon. This room is just perfect 👌🏻 I happen to like traditional styles more the older I get because it’s what home looked like and nostalgia rules. Besides, you add in these little fun touches that are more modern. Your mom picked out some great lamps and…that tartan throw is awesome! Is it from the tartan blanket company? THEY SHOULD SPONSOR YOU. I deeply appreciate how COZY your style is without looking messy. Loving your Grammy’s console, I can only imagine how great she was 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 Afraid of your shadow. You’re officially whatever critter is afraid of their own shadow. Not that you’re alone in that. Dying at the hostage situation via curtain rods. Feels like that sometimes 😂 I’d hire you. No doubt. Your advice is so straightforward and easy. My grandma was an interior designer, married to grandpa who was an architect. We talked about this stuff often. Textures and proportions and since she opened her own design firm in Ohio back in the sixties (retired 10 years ago) my “dollhouses” were models and I used swatches for carpets and whatnot. I just love how much your style reminds me of hers. I finally figured it out, although she leaned into oriental elements. Lots of zen and asymmetry, however, growing up in the 80s she had to do what clients wanted and these tones are CLASSIC. They never ever go out of style, the pieces goin goose aren’t trendy, they’ll always look good. It’s great. Love love love. , I left a long disjointed comment this time instead of stacking ten in a row. Merry Christmas. And happy new year! Hoping your trip with your family is everything you needed and wanted in a getaway 🙏🏻
I can’t even tell you how much I love this room! Absolutely beautiful! I always shop my house while decorating. Lovely video to end 2022. I looked forward to each of your videos this past year and can’t wait to see what you bring us in 2023! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
Thanks for this wonderful video! Love the room design, love your aesthetic, love how you teach design, love your adamant and effortlessly humorous delivery, and love the editing, especially the part when Mom! showed up, and the closeup of your hand mimicking a swan head! You are so damn funny. I also appreciate the loving interactions with your delightfully creative family. Thank you for brightening my days here in the wintry Northeast and "...may your days be merry and bright..." ! (P.S. I clicked in the 900th 'like' and the thumbs up icon was then briefly animated with an explosion of rainbow colors!! So, thanks for that, too!)
Nice Caroline! Beautiful before and after. It’s lovely, traditional with a touch of modern. I love the oversized mirrors. Who would have thunk? My one and only thing I would have changed if this was my room, would be the print or painting behind the bed I would have larger. I love your detail. And I agree I love plaid, I love all of it. Thank you for sharing your amazing talent!
This is absolutely stunning! 😍 Thank you so much for doing a timeless & just all up gorgeous English-country cottage design! Please feel free to do more of these kind of makeovers! 💕
It's so hard to find good interior designers where you get all the colour & patterns & beauty that your eyes want. Gives me those excited butterflies. Gorgeous
Truly beautiful and serene, cozy, all the feels. This room makes me want to redo our guest room. So many projects… anyway! I adore your style, you’ve helped influence my style in our new home, thank you!
If you've spent a lot of time in aribnb's or guest rooms, you know that guests always need flat empty surfaces and hooks. Flat empty surfaces for their stuff! Lotions, potions, make up, jewlery, cosmetics, technology, books, etc. Anything we bring with us and need easy access to. Hooks are a must for towels, quick clothing access, things that you'll pick up on and off. They will all end up on that chair for sure. So, while the 'stylign' looks pretty, I'd leave that console's top surface empty, and most of the nightstand empty too.
Thank you so much for the idea of the oversized nightstands! That is a game changer for my husband and I's room. I've been trying to figure out this smaller space for over a year. Thanks!
Ah you bring me so much joy because although we lead very different lives you are very relatable. Omg I just discovered you! I was looking for another interior design influencer to follow to expand my several favorites and got drawn in with your quirky, hilarious commentary.
I was shocked and delighted to learn how knowledgeable you are in interior design, tech, as well as other areas, how you’re able to illustrate your design concepts and how you made the choices you did along the course of the transformation, and translate them so completely to us whether we’re renters (me) or
homeowners.
Such a beautiful cozy, airy room. I would be a very happy guest in that room.
Such a nice room. You are so generous with your information about designing and styling. Thanks
As someone who watches your videos but never comments, let me just say that was damn cute!! The makeover, your mom, the hanky panky… everything. And the furniture piece from your grandma, that was my favorite part. Thank you for being you.
Love the very large mirrors over the night tables; never thought they would look good until you taped it off. Great idea. Thanks!
I would be in that chair all the time. It's perfect. Good job mom on the lamps!💞💞💞💞
Feng shui would totally agree with the bed placement ! Room looks soooo good too!
The room is pure perfection! I'm jealous of your sister getting to sleep there.. hotel experience, everyday.
So beautiful! This room feels right. And not weirdly trendy or anything. Beautiful and tasteful. Thank you for sharing!
Watching this whilst drinking coffee is the greatest feeling right now. Thank you 😌
I love the way you explain your thought process. Seeing an aerial drawing of the room with the options for positioning the bed and reading nook relative to the windows was so helpful. Your clear explanations keep me coming back to your channel!
Swoon. This room is just perfect 👌🏻
I happen to like traditional styles more the older I get because it’s what home looked like and nostalgia rules. Besides, you add in these little fun touches that are more modern. Your mom picked out some great lamps and…that tartan throw is awesome! Is it from the tartan blanket company? THEY SHOULD SPONSOR YOU.
I deeply appreciate how COZY your style is without looking messy.
Loving your Grammy’s console, I can only imagine how great she was 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Afraid of your shadow. You’re officially whatever critter is afraid of their own shadow.
Not that you’re alone in that.
Dying at the hostage situation via curtain rods. Feels like that sometimes 😂
I’d hire you.
It’s great. Love love love.
,
I left a long disjointed comment this time instead of stacking ten in a row.
Merry Christmas.
And happy new year!
Hoping your trip with your family is everything you needed and wanted in a getaway 🙏🏻
So excited for this! I love that wallpaper so much ❤
im so relieved it worked for the room! i was veryyyyy nervous haha. almost went with a way "safer" choice
I love it all so much. Cozy, stylish, timeless. I fall this style comfy nostalgic. Also, love your personality! Made me crack up a few times.
Grandma’s console is wonderful! I love it so much. It’s the jewel of the room.
I love this room and the wallpaper is everything!!! It's peaceful and calm - just what you want in a guest room. Stunning! Great job girl.
Full length mirrors above the nightstands? Brilliant! Love it!
Mom is so chill and sweet!
Gorgeous
Excellent info and hints delivered with charm and humor! Totally Caroline ❤️
Thanks!
i love every single component in this room! 10/10 😍😍😍
God do I love the room, your choices, the explanations, all of it. Huge Caroline fan
Caroline,
You are extremely gifted!
The room makeover is just perfection!
Ah you bring me so much joy because although we lead very different lives you are very relatable. In fact I know you will become so successful (and not so relatable) so much so that I worry about finding my next ‘Caroline’ here on youtube. Until then I enjoy every minute of your content. Thank you ❤
ah nooooo, i hope it never changes! i hope this channel always feels familiar and comforting. that's my goal ❤
Ahhh, so sweet!
@@Caroline_Winkler yes, please never change. What you have and do, works so well and is such a good feeling like yesteryear.
This room is gorgeous and comfy - and you have such great taste. The only thing missing is one of those little ballroom dancing trophies in a vignette. Love you!!
Love this warm and cozy room, great job💓Love that you didn't put the bed between the windows, laying in bed being able to look out the windows is so much better🌹 My favorite thing is your grandmothers cabinet, simply gorgeous, love the knobs too❤ Actually I truly love everything💕 Love you videos💕
Great job. Love the little console piece of furniture from your grandmother.
Admiration for YOU, & Your amazing Mom. Thank YOU for this✌🏼💙✊🏼
This room looks absolutely magical! Your decorating and design capabilities are really incredible, this room is inspiring! Thanks for sharing all your tips and tricks:)
you are the best at explaining design (and the most fun) :)
Your hair in the bow/ ribbon looks so effortless but elegant.
You have amazing family history and did a fabulous job of working it into the room.
I love how it turned out. A very traditional look, the warm colors are great. I actually love the layout. The tall mirrors look great and you can lie in bed and look out the windows or sit in the comfy chair and look out the window whle you read or have your morning coffee.
