As someone who studied architecture and became completely disillusioned with design and the industry, your videos are a much needed breath of fresh air and a sense of inspiration
I like how you explain why you made the choices you did in a way that can apply to everyone, rather than just explaining as it pertains to the room. I feel like that's rare, and I really appreciate it.
i cant tell you how helpful this feedback is. i can never tell when im talking too much (it is often too much) and so i cut out about 20 extra minutes of me explaining my approach to design choices. but if it's helpful, i'll try leaving more in next time!
@@Caroline_Winkler please do leave it in! You're teaching us in an entertaining way. I love your interior design videos more than anyone else's (and I follow several)!
@@bgholmq i can agree more... i learn so much watching her videos... and little by little my view on design have change... even muy friends notice it... so THANK YOU so much @ Caroline
I’ve been watching design videos for more than a year to educate myself for a recent reno of the small house we’ve lived in for 17 years. I learned more in this 15 minutes than I have in what likely adds up to hundreds of hours reading and watching other things. And I was entertained and smiling the whole time. Thank you! Merry Christmas from Ontario.
thanks for explaining how your mind works when planning the layout and everything! would you talk more about lighting, lamps, etc? it's the thing I find the least intuitive, and I think you do a great job with it (you rocked the bold choices on your kitchen makeover). thanks so much for the great content this uear! happy holidays!!!
I think the thing I enjoy the most about your design style is that the room always looks like it's always been that way, cozy and homey but also new and clean. You have a wonderful eye for color and decor.
I feel like in these guest room makeovers nobody ever includes blackout window treatments! I don’t care how cute a room is, if there’s only some see through linen curtains, people won’t be able to sleep which is the whole point! So I love that you called that out
I agree, but I've also started to not use them for the past month or so. I find that it helps me wake up in the mornings! Something about the gradual shift in light really helps my body prepare for waking up and then I do, less tired.
This is a great example of showcasing YOUR particular approach to design, with the specific commentary on your styling choices, and the reasons behind those choices. (I like: working with what you have---size of room---and bringing in the thrift store items, as well as things that were already owned). The final result really demonstrates your taste in decor, and is perhaps your best "how to" video yet.
@@Caroline_Winkler Sure thing. While my personal approach to my own surroundings is quite different from your traditional sensibility, I can appreciate it when you "nail it" in achieving your ends. Despite all the waiting involved with this project, the guest room works on so many levels.....you've pulled it all together!
I love this room, Caroline! It is so inviting, and it requires NOTHING of its occupant. It makes you feel like a welcome guest. Not every room can do that!
girl the algorithm blessed me because i just discovered you and i've been binging your videos for 3 days. You've inspired me to redecorate my home with what i have and be the little interior designer i know i'm meant to be. Excited for the podcast
I love it! I'm not usually a wallpaper kind of girl, but I really like it. Also, love the piece that was your grandmother's. The whole room it just lovely.
One of the most unique and wonderful things about your channel is that you have such an abundance of knowledge that we actually learn SO much while just being entertained. Not many RUclipsrs/content creators have that balance. It's always such a joy to watch your videos!
I love this room because it's not 'too': not overdecorated, not underdecorated, just enough color (especially the wallpaper and touches of red), just enough furniture to be comfortable but not crowded. The personal touches give it a 'soul'.
Your Mom is incredible and so vibrant. I can see where you get some of your delightful personality . Thank you again so much for all the education and creativity. YOU ROCK!
Caroline you are so gifted! The room is absolutely stunning--elegant, cozy, harmonious, serene and inviting--just perfect. You've really upleveled your game in the past year. Looking forward to your next endeavors. Merry Christmas!

This room has amazing feng shui. And who doesn't like a reading corner by the window?? (I learned a lot from Dear Modern's channel and your channel!
My first of many. I love your ART and encouragement, sharing, and opening up my mind in retirement. I loved seeing you with your mum. Such an inspiration to me. Thank you..
Wow! This room is so cozy,I love the mix of new and thrifted with what you already had. It feels like a room in a little British Inn. Merry Christmas to the Winkler Family❤
Your videos are super inspiring! It's refreshing to see a designer making creative decisions while listening to their intuition. I'm also pretty sensitive (being mindful and listening to my own response and experience to find the right answer: "is this annoying? Or does this feel right?" is my go-to starting point now. Seeing your thought processes and reasoning behind the creative decisions are very enlightening. Even when you *know* that you *don't know* why a certain decision feels better, you talk about that and have helped me understand how to utilize that mysterious little intuitive voice in my head and to just be mindful and have a positive and playful experience with it. I'm finding way more satisfaction and way less frustration and anxiety in the process of designing my place. 💕
I love that you used your grandmother’s chest. I’ve been so inspired by your style that I pulled some of my grandpa’s oil paintings that weren’t already hanging in my parents’ house and now I can’t for the life of me figure out how to make them work. Your explanation of using height, tension, and asymmetry is SUPER helpful. Absolutely stunning work, Caroline. Frohe Weihnachten fur deine ganze Familie und Guten Rutsch!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
I just find you and I absolutely LOVE your videos. You have inspired me to start actually being intentional with the way I organize and decorate. Also I love your sweater
Great job- your comment on tension is spot on - as an interior designer its hard to explain that. I get your vibe - its fresh! not labouring over an exact match on the side dresser is the right way to do it.
I ❤️ everything about this classy room makeover. Favorite element is your Grammy's cabinet and the fact that you and your Mom collabed on this project. Shes so sweet! And you're so talented, Caroline!
Classic, practical, simply elegant. Isn't that alabaster? Once found a table base like that, abandoned against a fence. Took six months to remove two layers of paint without compromising details. Left the iron bare, it wouldn't rust in Phoenix. Round table top that size, cherry stain and paste wax from Lowes, it came out perfectly.
Agree with the others in the comments saying how much practical design advice I learn from your videos! I wonder if you could do a video on different types of wall hangings? I guess I'm kind of graduating from the poster and tapestry era of my college days and early 20s, wondering how to repurpose my favorite amongst those but in a more adult or fancy way. Do you have favorite framing advice? Alternatives to frames? Really appreciate you!
I love EVERYTHING about this room. It is stunning!!! I'd like to copy and paste the style into my living room or do something similar with burgundy, green, pink, grey and white colours. You've got an incredible talent of pairing things. Even the smallest details like the two books on the table and a vase on top is sooo elegant. And your grandmas console fits so well with the whole style of the room, like it was made for it!!
I will never not love a cannonball bed. I grew up with a one. My mom got me a wood drop lid desk with cubbies for homework. My grandmother made a floral skirt for my bed, vanity, and curtains to match. My grandfather installed a ballet bar. Mom finished it off with framed Degas ballet prints. I have never felt so seen and loved. Decorating is a love language.
What I like the most about your design videos is how you explain everything. Some things are just not my style, but I can still appreciate the design of it and the thought behind it.
Yeah, "immovable objects". I hate the corner where my desk has to go because of the internet cable. But I'm not running several feet of cable along my living room wall for a different placement. Also, it's only 11.5 x 15, and I have many other furniture pieces to accommodate. Plus two doorways and a staircase to work around. I feel the same way about all your small successes--they make a difference. That little lamp on your grandmother's console (which is exquisite!) echoes the pedestal table, the same with the lamp bases and the pods in the wallpaper. The only thing I feel is missing is art on the door wall, especially as it's in the view from the reading nook. It's wonderful. It's so much better than examples I see in videos of 'professionally' styled spaces.
So tasteful and charming. I love your traditional take on designing. Growing up in Austria we were swamped with cold modern bauhaus and IKEA. So seeing you bringing back graceful design and simple beauty is delightful !
I love the whole space, love the style and the wall paper, I understand the adoration, it give so much to the space, it feels so cozy 🥰 I do still feel the tension between the two mirrors, I think I would keep it that way but add hanging plants there to break the empty space but keep it airy and light at the same time
One, this room looks amazing, so nice to see it finished. Two, I am a bow fiend and I love your bow. Great color, nice drape and texture, looks great on you, love it! Everything in this video is stylin'!
Awww so cute you and your mama! ❤ I like those family pieces in there. Sometimes I feel like we’re moving too much into robot, cookie cutter styles. There’s definitely something special about heirloom pieces!
Thank you so much for the idea of the oversized nightstands! That is a game changer for my husband and I's room. I've been trying to figure out this smaller space for over a year. Thanks!
Love this warm and cozy room, great job💓Love that you didn't put the bed between the windows, laying in bed being able to look out the windows is so much better🌹 My favorite thing is your grandmothers cabinet, simply gorgeous, love the knobs too❤ Actually I truly love everything💕 Love you videos💕
If you ever want to make a video with tips on how to design a room, any one room, that would be so dope. I'm in love with that wallpaper pattern, but not a wallpaper fan. However they DO offer this pattern fabric so I can draw that pattern into my guest room. Your lamps will go perfectly too. Been loving your no nonsense attitude to design. You rock!
I watched this on Christmas evening, I had a wonderful day with my family and our family of Ukrainian Refugees, and to top it off I had this to watch, couldn't have been better 🥰
The wallpaper is everything. It’s a beautiful room; I love the mixing of colors throughout the room. Your tip about eliminating a dresser and using oversized nightstands instead is a gem and I will be using that idea for sure.
Love how you talked about mixing patterns. I'm a hobby dressmaker, but that means I'm able to make my own slipcovers / pillow covers / curtains etc...and I love playing with fabric prints that way. My bigger furniture pieces are pretty neutral now, but through textiles I'm able to bring in interest, and then I can also fairly cheaply and easily switch some patterns up with I need a change (ex: in summer I have pillows covered with more florals, but flip those to plaids in the winters). Also, re grandmothers: I managed to inherit two pieces of antique furniture from my grandmother, and I feel the same way! Having them in my apartment reminds me of the comfort I used to feel going over to her house as a kid.
Nice Caroline! Beautiful before and after. It’s lovely, traditional with a touch of modern. I love the oversized mirrors. Who would have thunk? My one and only thing I would have changed if this was my room, would be the print or painting behind the bed I would have larger. I love your detail. And I agree I love plaid, I love all of it. Thank you for sharing your amazing talent!
This room is so inviting. I adore it. And I've fallen utterly in love with the wallpaper - I'd been looking at William Morris wallpaper designs to redecorate my lounge (Strawberry Thief is so very beautiful) but this design is very Morris-esque and is cheaper too. so I think this is the one. Thank you Caroline
I love how it turned out. A very traditional look, the warm colors are great. I actually love the layout. The tall mirrors look great and you can lie in bed and look out the windows or sit in the comfy chair and look out the window whle you read or have your morning coffee.
Caroline you’re such a breath of fresh air. I know your Mom doesn’t appreciate your “ language @ but you have the best heart. You’re so easy to love. Amanda’s Mercantile recommended you and I’m so glad I found you.
Caroline, great collaboration with your mom! I love that! The room is beautiful. I hope you get to help many others with you your talent! Merry Christmas! Jesus is born! ❤
Serendipity! I just found your channel a few days ago, just watched part 1 YESTERDAY, and was pissed there was no part 2 because I LOVE this room. In fact, you found the wallpaper I’m now going to use in my dining room. I’m in love. ❤❤❤ So happy to have found your channel!!
So many good insights! I would never have realized how important the throw blanket on the chair was. When you removed it and placed it back, the effect was SO crazy.
Oh my goodness, this is classy and looks like it was curated over 20 years. I love everything! And good to know about how long it took to get that chair - visiting a local upholsterer and reviving an old piece is looking like a solid option. Great job, and joyous holidays!!

My one and only thing I would have changed if this was my room, would be the print or painting behind the bed I would have larger. I love your detail. And I agree I love plaid, I love all of it. Thank you for sharing your amazing talent!
Mom is precious ❤ good job Caroline
This bedroom is similar vibes im going for in my bedroom. Love it.
Wow! This bedroom is so beautiful and cosy! I’m feeling very inspired ❤
Simply stunning! Love the understated elegance, while romantic and meaningful with all the family heirlooms ❤️ You are so very talented 👏👏👏👏
Caroline you’re such a breath of fresh air. I know your Mom doesn’t appreciate your “ language @ but you have the best heart. You’re so easy to love. Amanda’s Mercantile recommended you and I’m so glad I found you.
Absolutely stunning. It's like chic cottage-core.
Love the mirrors behind the lamps!
I love watching the process from start to finish.
you are the best at explaining design (and the most fun) :)
This room is so cozy and inviting.
