Thank you soooo much.. This tutorial has been so helpful. I was too nervous to fix the head on one of my dolls that was not right when it was received and I did not want to complain to the seller because I was already getting a good deal, I will be able to change it now and also remove some weight from the dolls tummy.

This definitely is a good skill to have. I’ve been considering reweigjting a PG baby and an AD one I have using better quality stuff. Knowing how to do this makes it possible to weight your baby is exactly how you want them without relying on someone else to do it for you. It’s great that you and others make these tutorials for us to watch.

I'm currently looking at different suppliers on Etsy to see what kinds of beads and polyfill they have, along with other places on the net. I can't wait to re-weight my new reborn doll!!

Thank you so much for making this video I'm so nervous but I'm going to need to take my new reborn apart and remove some of the glass beads as she is hard as a rock and I want her to be softer. I was wondering, is there a way to change the dolls that I have purchased but do not look very real? They are high quality dolls but have been painted minimally and need more paint adjustments. Could I just paint on the doll or does something need to be done before painting? I would love to change my dolls up..
Hi, that's something that I would recommend talking with either the artist that painted the dolls or speak to another artist that might beable to add more details for you. Yes it can be done. You would just want to find an artist with the skill level for the realism your looking for & willing to alter another artists work.
Sometimes your better off selling & buying exactly what your looking for because it can be hard to find artists that will paint over another artists work. You could always check with the original artist first & see how they feel about it.

@@piximommysreborns thank you! These dolls are commercially painted, not from a private artist. They’re a good quality, just not very real. I am “artistically inclined” (tattoo artist and attended art college where I did lots of painting lol), but never tried reborn dolls before just canvas and pottery. Wanted to try practicing on these if possible :)

Im geting a very cheap doll from Walmart. Im exspting it to be very not good compared to hand made reborns, so im thinking ill have to add beads.
I know it will not be grat but i want a silicon baby and as we k ow there VERY expensive, will take me years to aford one so i want to get the feel and know if i want to invest that.
When his head came off! Reminded me of when I opened the Asher awake, remember that? I was brand new to the hobby and didn't expect that. Watching videos like this one made me comfortable to attach the head... instant professional LOL. Good stuff

When i got my first reborn, she was supposed to be a newborn size (Will by Natalie Scholl) and she wore 3 months clothes ! Her body was over filled, not floppy at all. She was really not cuddly.
I had seen a tutorial, so i bought what was necessary and the day i took her head off, my 12 years old niece was there. When i cut the zip tie, the head popped up and rolled on the table ! My brother and my sister were there too and we all thought my niece would be shocked and we've been shocked to see her laughing out loud as never ! She made me promise, if i had to do it again, to wait for her to be there. 😂🤣😂🤣
My niece is such a surprising person ! 💖💖💖
She's 13 now and i offered her the first reborn i have painted. I didn't root the hair, the eyelashes neither the eyebrows, because i wanted her to choose the color she preferred. She chose a light brown but only for the lashes and the eyebrows, because she loved the way i had painted the skull ! She has surprised everyone again ! 😊

Oh my goodness!! Well your niece sure has me laughing out loud! 🤣 that really is a great story! Both of them!! I could just imagine you all their when the head just popped right off thinking she would be totally creeped out, but instead laughing!! Lol
And yeah for a 13 yr old to choose to leave the baby bald bc she liked the way you "painted the skull" rather then have rooted hair! That is definitely surprising! I guess she really has an appreciation for the art. Maybe she will paint a reborn herself one day! She just might surprise you!!! Lol

@@piximommysreborns, actually she is an artist ! She has had her first class of drawing when she was 5 and she's been playing the violin for 4 years now. I have made plastic art studies and we have very interesting discussions about art. When she came for Christmas holidays, she chose the color of the eyelashes and the eyebrows and she watched me rooting. She asks me many questions about making reborns.
Maybe will she become a reborn artist, or a sculptor, who knows ?! 😉😊

I agree wholeheartedly with your opinion that weight is so important. I got a gorgeous doll from Russia that was really badly weighted. I didn’t know then how to re-weight them, so I just sold the doll for a LOT less than I paid. The paint wasn’t what I expected either, or I might have looked into getting her re-weighted. Stellan is gorgeously painted, btw.
Hi Linda!! Yes I completely understand what your saying. I've sold many dolls on myself & many at a great loss. I can say that I don't think I've ever gotten a doll that I was truly disappointed with in any way. I just either discovered the sculpt wasn't for me or the painting or rooting wasn't for me! The good part is we all have different taste so the doll goes on to make another collector extremely happy. I think the reason I've sold the most is the skin tone was to fair for my liking. That's the one thing that gets me every time no matter how gorgeous & realistic the doll is.
Most dolls from Russia come with little to no weight. Probably bc of shipping costs. Its definitely great to know how to reweight so you don't need to sell the doll on if the weight is the only reason. Also sometimes changing the body can make all the difference. It can even change the clothing size sometimes. Theirs definitely a few tricks to try if you really love a doll but feel like somethings just "off".
It's all stuff you learn as you go along just by trial & error or watching other collectors & artists.
You wouldn't think collecting reborns is so complex!! Lol
Hi i have a question i have a reborn baby but his head keeps flopping all around and his body got very light and i dont understand why it happened and his head almost fell off and im nervous i might ruin him because i dont know how to tighten or fix his zip tie any tips?

Yes replace the zip tie. You won't be able to adjust this one bc the end is clipped so put a new one & then while you have the head off add some extra polly fill to give more stability for the head. Sometimes the polly fill settles after time & you just need to refresh it. It sounds like that's what's happened with your baby. It's a very easy fix just a zip tie & a little polly fill will do the trick!

I have a Question! I'm thinking of reweighting my newborn when i got him he wasnt weighted at all his body was just full of Cotton im ok with doing his body but should i do his head? When I got him it had nothing but air and im not sure if its a good choice to make it a bit more heavy
Hi there! Great question!
So you can add a little weight to the head just by stuffing it with Polly fill. Or you can add a small sack of glass beads and some Polly fill. It's really all a matter of personal preference.
I like my dolls heads weighted as it makes them feel & move more realistically. If it's a bigger baby & I want them to beable to sit up without support, I add only Polly fill. That gives a little weight, but allows them to sit without the head flopping. For newborn babies I weight the head heavy so that the head needs support "like a real baby" when I pick them up.
Don't be afraid to try out different ways until the doll feels right for you!
You can also weight the limbs with glass beads if the limbs were not weighted. Fill the limbs half way or 3/4 the way up with glass beads and stuff the rest with Polly fill to hold the beads inside.

I love these videos Tasha! I can’t tell you how many of these re-weighting videos I looked up when I first started re-weighting my own dolls.
As far as that belly plate on him- YES! You could get away with that belly plate on him! When I got my new Levi from Carla, (not new - but new to me- I wasn’t his first Mommy- I didn’t get him directly from her, I was his second mommy, ) he didn’t have a belly plate. But when I ordered my Kami Rose- bc that baby was a custom - I ordered a belly plate from her with that baby and it matched my Levi from her perfectly! So I have been using it with both babies !!! So neat!

Awww thank you my Dear Shannon! Yeah you know it's funny bc I just remembered as I was reading your comment that the first lady I bought my first 4 reborns from second hand. She used the same belly plate for photos for multiple babies! I remember bc I kept asking "do they come with the belly plate" & she told me "no I only have one I use for them all" lol
I think for those collectors who really enjoy taking pics having a belly plate is really nice for that. It really adds alot to the realism imo.
I looked afterwards & realized that Bears Belly plate I tried on Stellan in the video is really not the same lol but yeah I do think for photos I could get away with it if I want. I'm pretty sure that's the only caucasian tone belly plate I have come to think of it!
Aasir has a belly plate "the chicken cutlet kind lol" & AZ has a full front plate with boy bits. That is actually a work of art in itself!! I really need to get that out for some pics!

I bought a bag of the baby fat, but didn't use it when I redid my dolls. I was thinking about how the silicone might get sticky like the silicone babies do, then clump. Might be a different type of silicone, don't know but I didn't want to risk it.
What size zip ties do you recommend?
Whatever the standard is that all the doll distributors carry. I think they have a couple different lengths so I suppose if you were buying in bulk to make many dolls get the long & the short as you will save some money on the shorter length for limbs . I just use the long ones bc they work of neck & limbs & you cut the excess anyways

Hi Robin thank you!!! Yes yes I should have mentioned that his limbs are weighted with fine glass beads. To weight the limbs fill them 3/4 the way or a tad more or less depending on the size of the baby you don't want limbs so heavy that the weight is tugging on the body, but with your average NB size reborn fill most of the way & then stuff the remainder with polypill tight to plug it up. Some artists do use plugs, tape or a cotton round to ensure nothing spilling into the body. I've had no issues just packing the pollyfill in tightly. Zip ties on the limbs work the same as for the head. Cut them the same to remove & put new on the same & make sure you don't tighten them to wear the limbs can't move. Same as the head 😉

Tasha i rewaid my reborn son went i got him he was not waied he in a new body he now 28 inchs went did it the first time he was to foble he now more culddle noe that i took my time to fix him i was neaves to do it but did he look grate.
Hi Jamie! Yes I was so nervous too the first time I cut that zip tie & took a babys head off! But I knew I wanted more weight in the baby so I did it!! I think once you do it one time then it gets easier after that because you know you can! Its definitely worth it to learn so we can have our babies the way we would like them! I think the weight makes a big difference. It did for me!

I reweighted my reborn, one day, when I picked her up to cuddle, her head flopped off and rolled off the bed!!! I was in shock!, even though I know it's not real, my heart felt differently! Crazy!
