The Edge of Night was SO under-rated!! Not everyone was a great actor here, but overall this show was great! All these years later, I still miss it. April, Draper, Miles, Logan, Raven, the Karrs, Jodi, Kelly, Gavin - so many great and memorable characters
Sad for Logan and Emily . . . but by this time on the show I was very fond of Draper Scott and wanted Draper back with April . . . and Julia. April and Logan--a happy memory that couldn't be. Tony Craig 17:52 was very good in this episode . . .
I'm sorry but that look of sadness on Margo McKenna's face (2:40 forward) and the slow dissolve into utter heartbreak gets me every time. Possibly the most underrated actress on Edge in my opinion. Even though she's partly responsible for her own plight, you can't help but feel sorry for 'Emily' here. I remember my mom grabbing a tissue for this episode. She said she was happy for April and Draper, but sad for Emily and Logan. I suspect many other viewers felt the same way.
I thought the acting of the performers in the storyline was good, but I thought the storyline itself was too long--a long six months it took for Draper and April's reunion, which was exactly 7 months after Margo's assault, the catalyst for their separation in the first place.
I don't understand all the sympathy for Emily. She knew he wasn't Kirk Michaels for awhile. She knew he had a wife and a baby. And she didn't tell him. And we all know the trouble she caused for Draper and April later on. Moving into the apartment below them, walking into their apartment whenever she felt like it (and taking pleasure in doing it), getting pregnant by another man and trying to pass the baby off as Draper's. She was an incredibly selfish person who only thought about herself and what she wanted.
Yes, Emily is a truly horrible little bitch, but it's important to remember that she's crazy as a switch engine. I think Margo McKenna did a good job of playing a psycho-bitch.
Here's why from someone who watched it in real time as it aired. We care about Emily because she was essentially Delta Dawn from the 70s song. She was an innocent isolated girl who grew up in a place without a lot of people around, no mother, I doting over bearing father and she had her innocence stolen away by young reform school boy Who only was after her money. This shock shattered her much like the figure in the popular Tammy Wynette and Helen Reddy song. Like a frog in water that was slowly turning up in heat Emily got sucked in. And she could rationalize once she found out because Molly told her that April and Logan had gotten close. You're absolutely right you did a lot of horrible things but the actress was amazingly sympathetic and we could see how she the character could rationalize what she did. This is one of my all-time favorite soap opera stories ever I'll never forget the chills I had watching this episode. When April sees Draper
@@SoapsGoldenAge I think for anyone who watched the show back then, we all know that Emily gets much more annoying when she gets pregnant and insists it is Draper's. Up to this point, she has been duped and then got panicky during the kidnapping. But then she gets suepr annoying.
I too, watched in real time back then and there is no excuse for Emily's behavior other than being a spoiled brat. So used to getting it's own way Emily cared nothing for ruining innocent people's lives to satisfy it's own desires. Emily should go to prison with it's buddy Molly. But no, out of some misguided sense of sympathy they don't have it arrested. And, man, do they regret it.
If you mean the music playing as Emily runs up to see Draper and April reunite... it's the same tune that Emily called "their song" and happily played on the piano so many times at the Gault house when she thought that Kirk was back in her life. I thought that it was a nice touch by the writers.
Logan and April would have been so good together, I kinda always disliked Draper. Also poor Emily, I actually watched later episodes before this story arc and always thought what an unpleasant character she is, but now I understand her and feel really sorry for her. She fought so hard. I knew how it ends but nevertheless wished she would succeed
I concur. Tony Craig is a good actor, but Draper was written as so dour and moody. Joe Lambie’s Logan had an easygoing nature and humor that Draper lacked. I thought Lambie had wonderfully romantic chemistry with Terry Davis. Henry Slesar, the headwriter, had planned a complicated quadrangle between April/Draper/Logan/Deborah to follow up Draper’s return, but that was dropped when Frances Fisher and Joe Lambie decided not to renew their contracts at the end of 1980.

THESE EPISODE BRING BACK MEMORIES FROM MY CHILDHOOD COMING HOME FROM SCHOOL EVERYDAY AFTER 3
So that meant back then General Hospital must have come on at 3:30 pm ?? XD

April is showing so much patience not slapping the hell out of Emily.

i just finished this episode, wow! i had 2 days off and watched about 15 episodes in a row, i am always so thankful to you for posting these
I saw the whole storyline in just 3 days...30 minute Soap operas move alot more faster !! XD
Half hour soaps were much better than the hour soaps. The cast may be small, but everyone is used more than the hour soaps
Bravo! Thank you so much! What an episode!

I disagree, the length of the story was perfect. A slow burn to an awesome climax.
The story had been planned to run even longer than it did.
@@markfaulkner5626 Oh..Gosh..The show was cancelled in 1984.. XD
As long as Eden's Utah storyline on Santa Barbara !! XD
I didn't back then and still don't have any sympathy for Emily. Can't wait until Draper sees his baby daughter.

At least she told the truth when Larry and Frankie wanted to kill Draper for what the real Kirk Michaels did to them.

The music and scene of Draper and April's reunion reminds me of the end of a feature on "The Late Late Show" !

@@telephotousa Sweet.
I never knew that Linda Gibboney and Terri Davis were on this show ! Totally remember them from "All My Children" and "Another World"
1:28, Calvin to the rescue!
FRANKIE: I never cry on an empty stomach.
Oakdale Amusement Park? Am wondering if that's a hint that Monticello is near Oakdale, IL (the town on twin soap ATWT).
You guys are too hard on poor Emily. I loved Margo McKenna's work.

The streets outside of the studio. 20:27 sure doesn't look like the exteriors of a hospital 🏥
Man! Logan's expression really got to me 😲
Thanks for the Upload 👍👍 !! Xd You can tell this was shot after a Hiatus.. Because Terry's skin looks more tan than eailer that year .. xd
People can easily get tan over the course of a weekend. These were all shot in the summer. I don't think this show had many hiatuses.
Margo McKenna previously appeared as Betsy on Love of Life.
She played dysfunctional well!
She was also on As the would turns too !! XD
She's playing Emily so well, I want to see her other work now
@@MrCraigblaze I'd love to see episodes of her on it.
@@MrCraigblaze what role did she play on ATWT?
Emily never meant to endanger Draper. She didn’t know about Larry Watts and Frankie Palmer.
Oh please !! XD
@@MrCraigblaze Oh please is right. Emily Michaels knew about Larry Watts & Frankie Palmer.
Don’t get me wrong I love me some Logan but he has a lot of nerve trying to be in his feelings right now! He moved in on April way too soon anyway.
Did you enjoy Draper & April's reunion? I really loved watching Draper and April from spring 1978 when started watching. They were faves.
@@eonschuylerwhitney Yes I cried like a baby! I binged nonstop this week just to get to this moment😂
OMG, sending out for more sandwiches.
Logan never had much success in romance
I loved him with Winter Austin [the first actress] but then Wade Meacham showed up and ruined it.
@@bplbookstore3656 that's soaps for you, usually a character or two having to ruin other people's romances
