Hello everyone! Thanks for watching! I am not claiming to be an expert about anything Germany related. I am doing my best to share what I have experienced as an American in Germany. If you have comments/corrections, please feel free to KINDLY leave a comment. If you have nothing nice to say, don’t waste your time ♥️

Nice to hear that someone notices the difference between everything is closed and most shops are closed.

Here on YT many people from the US wonder why there is no free water in German restaurants. On the contrary to the US (I heard) it´s common in Germany to take your time while eating and after that to stay a while to have some drinks and a nice conversation. So there are no refills or free drinks because the restaurant has to earn some money when you block the table for the whole evening. You ever have to see the whole package. It´s the same with German Supermarkets. Poor service, but lower prices than in the US. Or when it comes to taxes, they are higher in Germany, but include healthcare and a public transportation system that allows you to reach every corner of the country without owning a car. Nothing is free in the US and nothing is free in Germany.

In addition, our restaurants actually make most of the money over the drinks, not the meal. So if you just want to sit down, eat something and then go, the German restaurant is considerably cheaper than the american one, where the refills are priced into the meal already.

You pay not for the water, but for the customer service. The food is cheap and the money is made with the beverages. Also if everything is open on sunday, you have to work on sunday too sooner or later.

On Sundays all shops are closed, exept restaurants, bakeries (with seats), kiosks (in some cities), gas stations. You will not find a supermarket/grocieries open on Sunday.

The most dangerous people on the Autobahn are foreigners not used to driving fast. This includes countries with relatively low speed limits on their highway systems.
Aquiring a DL in Germany is a pricy undertaking (up to 2K Euro) and includes driving lessons at night, on rural roads, and Autobahn of course.
So you learn how to behave properly from the get go.
Along come foreigners from a country with stricter speed limits who now deem themslves free of any shackles and start speeding on the Autobahn like you wouldn't believe.
Drive responsible no matter what car. Your life and that of others are on the line.

I definitely agree with your points. I'm from Austria and we basically share a lot of the cultural tendencies with Germany. Although, as a teen, I kinda forget that these things exist, because the youth does not often follow these things. German teens are crazy when it comes to rule-breaking XD

Germany follow the rules to not beeing fined. You get fined if you cross the street at a red light, the police will appear at your door if you try to mow your lawn on a Sunday or be loud after 10 pm, you don't get your money back if you do not bring back your shopping cart. That is how it works. But I have to admit, we love to follow the rules. We adore doing things right. Do good work.

It's fascinating that the left lane thing is in more than one of your videos coming from Texas. I've loved driving in Texas because unlike the rest of the U.S. Texas drivers DO stay out of the left lane as they enforce the "slower traffic keep left rule." At least they do on I-10.

That’s interesting! I haven’t experienced that, but I’m sure in some areas that is the case. In Germany, if you are in the left lane people will be within inches of your vehicle to “encourage” you to move over whereas in the US (in my experience) people will just drive behind you until you move over or get in the other lane to pass you.

The different between restaurant culture in germany u more oe less pay for the time u been there. So u pay for every drink incl water. The service will not force u to hurry up cause they had to reset ur table quickly to get their money. And normaly u give 10% Tip for good service. That btw often was divided between the service and the kitchen.

Regarding paying with cash: what you have to bear in mind is that you might not be able with credit cards, they are not widely accepted (most big hotels, rental car companies and some big (international) companies do accept credit cards). However most supermarkets, gas stations and larger stores do accept debit cards. Do not expect very small shops like bakeries or Döner shops or food or produce stalls to accept cards at all. There cash is king!

11:00 That is because businesses have outsourced paying their eomployees to the customer. It is more like allowing someone to beg for money on they premises while doing a waiter's work.

Well, if you're rich, you can speed at speed limits, no problem!

    • @DerULF1
      @DerULF1 3 года назад +1

If you're poor you can speed as well but just can't pay the fines. Also be aware that you loose your drivers license if you going more than 21km/h (in a city) or 26km/h (outside a city) too fast - no matter how much money you own. And the police will seize your car(s) if they catch you driving without a license. Being rich makes living easier but not problemless.
