I was literally searching for how to do exactly this today. Never seen your channel before, but ironically found your video 3 hours after you uploaded it. Thank you!
So Dave, great video, but it seems more like a Heitzner (sp) add than a Next Cloud tutorial. What if I wanted to add a domain/subdomain to my web hosting? What if I wanted to setup a home/office server with ports open to allow me to remotely login and do the same things?
Thanks for commenting, @FarisandFarida. Yes, Make & n8n have native integrations with NextCloud. I'm sure you could get something happening with Zapier too, via webhooks.
Could you recommend VPS services suitable for self-hosting NextCloud? I was impressed with the service you demonstrated, but I’m also interested in a more flexible solution.
Yes, any VPS service would work. I am using Hetzner exclusively these days but really any of the major providers would work (Vultr, Digital Ocean, Linode, etc). There are many ways to install NextCloud, from containerized versions to setting it up from scratch using a LAMP stack. I do plan to get deeper into these topics in future episodes of this series. So far, I'm happy to see so many people interested in self hosting!
Thanks for this - I just discovered this product and it's great for my small company. Is there any way to use the command prompt they offer to export all of my data and especially server settings which can be used to move to my own VPS in the future if I want?
Hey @mixcocam, migrating to a VPS from a Storage Share is not straight forward and might result in loss of things like share links. If you want to run your own VPS and install NextCloud, I recommend doing that from the start.
@@dave-swift Thanks for that! I'm not sure if I want to invest in maintaining my own instance yet. That's why Storage Share is perfect. I'll stick to that to avoid misconfiguring things and ending up with my teams not being able to collaborate!
Can you ADD FTP or external storage to it. Really like to have a system in which controls everything but my low accessed data is on FTP that is level 4, my LOW VALUE data can be level 5, or such. That way can store a lot of data on server Priority level 1, but other data can be off server but still in same eco system.
Yep, you just have to enable the External Storage Support app and you can connect storage from: Amazon S3 FTP Another Nextcloud OpenStack Object Storage SFTP SMB/CIFS WebDAV
I would love to use this product, but they only have Germany as the data location, it would be amazing if they gave location options. I am in Australia, so I need to find an alternative to this.
There are control panels to assist with this. Cloudron is good, and you can have two apps on a server for free (you pay for the server). Follow my Writebook video for launching a VPS (whatever provider you choose) but instead of running the writebook script run the Cloudron script (found on their website by clicking on Install button).
Server Savant is the name of this series. Do you mean NextCloud? I'm not familiar with FlyWP or Cloudstick, but NextCloud would need to be containerized or installed on a dedicated server running a LAMP stack.
Hi Dave, I left a comment with what I hope were interesting and relevant questions but it seems to have disappeared, I don't know why? I'm not used to posting on YT, maybe I made a mistake. 😊
YT filters comments like crazy. Half my replies get filtered too. The key is to not include any links. I don't see the replies and don't know they were posted.
I've been considering NextCloud (and alternatives) for a while, hesitating between self-hosting it on my VPS or taking a separate managed hosting offer for more peace of mind regarding maintenance, performances, updates and isolation.
@dave-swift Well, tried splitting my message in three parts this time, but everything got "filtered out". Guess you'll need to create a FB community or whatever! 😅
Yes please do a tutorial on CloudFlare, Dave
Thanks for the feedback, Tina!
A video on cloudflare would be very much apreciated! Thanks!
Noted!

Glad to connect, @LaSandWitch! Good luck with NextCloud. 👍
Nice tutorial. Love the Server Savant and self-hosting series. Keep up the good work.
Thanks @junkelite 👍

Yes to Cloudflare tuts.
Thanks @obito-269! The plan is for weekly episodes.
@@dave-swift sounds great!
This is really nice. Definitely setting it up! Thank you for this. Does this allow you to use you files in automation like in make or zapier or n8n?

Yes, more data centers for Storage Share would be great. But you can always spin up a VPS in Australia and install it yourself.
@@dave-swift I liked the idea of not having to do anything myself LOLOL I will keep looking

Can Server Savant be deployed inside FlyWP or CloudStick to run a WordPress site?

Would you recommend them to self-host email?
Depends on who they are :)
I do it (for our company of 5 people).
I'm virtually the only person I know who does this.
