    • @yousefsobhani9502
      @yousefsobhani9502 3 года назад

      It's hard to compare them as Capablanca was obviously a stronger player due to chess being more developed by when he was born. However in terms of talent Morphy may be greater so if he had access to the same resources perhaps he'd win.

    • @yousefsobhani9502
      @yousefsobhani9502 3 года назад

      @Anton Anton I haven't forgotten that, it's a testament to his talent. They're both extremely talented and that's why I think it's impossible to compare them. When looking at their games it's clear to see Capablanca was stronger but it's hard to say what would have happened if they lived at the time.

    • @dr.bluesfield3629
      @dr.bluesfield3629 3 года назад

      @Anton Anton Morphy never studied chess, not even one line, his entire play was based on his natural talent alone. Compare this to players like Fischer or Carlsen e.g., who did nothing but study chess day and night from boyhood onwards, Fischer even learning Russian to be able to read the Soviet chess publications, that's an astronomical difference. One can simply not ignore this fact when comparing masters. Morphy considered himself just a casual player, never accepting prize money and chess being nothing more than an intellectual pasttime for him. In light of these facts, his achievements are simply astounding.
      Now imagine Morphy had the access to modern theory and would study day and night like modern grandmasters! That's why Fischer called him the best ever, not because he was faultless, which he wasn't, but because of his unsurpassed natural talent.
      Admittedly Capa didn't study much either, but compared to Morphy it was still several orders of magnitudes more.
      And then there is the diametrically different playing style. Morphy wouldn't be happy with just exchanging pieces for a winning endgame, his aspiration was rather to create a masterpiece of art in the middle game with beautiful sacrifices, that's why many consider his playing style more exciting. Me for one at least will always prefer complication over simplification.

See www.pressreader.com/uk/black-country-bugle/20190116/282024738435075 , which has photographs of both grandfather and grandson.

      because he didn't want this to affect his match with Staunton. Had he beaten Staunton, he would have claimed that he was unprepared and needed more time (which he did eventually anyway, namely idefinitely more time... ;-), had he lost to Staunton he might have said there was no need for a match as he had already proven to be superior.

      @markuskuosmanen8062 3 года назад

      Sure I guess, but you would be a queen down which of course is not good. and then white pawn on e5 would trap the knight to stay back if black doesn't want to open king side or remove the defender of c5 which was the reason to sacrifice the queen in the first place 🤷‍♂️

      @Anton Anton it's not qboutthe game analysis, it is also about the way the video sounds. Try to talk so fluently in a non-native language during 14 min, on a rather complex topic, and you would probably mess up at some point and getting disturbed, or speaking too loudly, etc. If you tend to be perfectionist, you will either have to do postprod, or record again (probably a mix of both). Agadmator is really smooth on video he barely prepared (text seems not to be pre-written, he probably just has the game on ChessBase with an engine telling 1 or 2 lines, that he manages to check while speaking and without looking weird), which is impressive.

I'm able to do everything for my roughly 11-16 minute videos in about a 35-45 minute time span depending on the game. Your numbers dude down below i have no idea how he's saying it takes hours and days to do anything. But yes, the fact that he's not a native English speaker is truly amazing. Even when he does make little mistakes its not like it will ruin the entire video so he'll post it anyway.

    0:28 We should mention that Bird was a good play.
    0:56 Morphy gets standing O where ever he goes.
    Morphy = Mozart / Bird = Salieri

    • @Alche_mist
      @Alche_mist 3 года назад +5

      From Forman's Amadeus, sure. In reality, Salieri was praised very highly, while it was sometimes rough for Mozart. He was so "not praised enough" in Vienna that there was this episode of him moving to Prague and working there.
      Yes, I live in Prague and know the theatre where Don Giovanni was first played. While significantly reconstructed and all, the theatre still works. It's one of the three stages of Czech National Theatre nowadays.

    Is the morphy picture supposed to be upside down?
    And as far as I can tell the thumbnail says the greatest opening, but does not mention Evan's gambit.
    EDIT Kiss Shot pointed out that board picture in the thumbnail clearly shows the Evans Gambit position. I didn't notice, I usually don't look at that board and today I was additionally distracted by upside down Morphy.

    The Kippings were quite a family. This one was Manchester chess club secretary and didn't do too badly giving Morphy a good game. His son became a very distinguished chemist, Fellow of the Royal Society, researched silicones and is responsible for naming them 'silicones'. His grandson became a famous chess problemist, so famous that chess clubs were named after him, including one I attended briefly, Walsall Kipping. It takes character to offer yourself for ritual slaughter by a rock-star chess genius, in full view of all your peers.

    Kipping was a serious good chess player. He fought extremely good with black against Morfy's white With Evans gambit
