Excellent song choice here. Kind of going off what you put in the description, the film seems like one giant metaphor. Arnie, an outcast and nerd, is so desperate to gain a more masculine persona and "man up," in all the conventional ways: girl, car, clothes, etc. It consumes him, and any threat to his newfound identity sends him off the rails, as it has the potential to send him back to when he was a nobody, accepted by no one, with no power. It serves as a reminder of how ludicrous the demands of society are on young men, and what can happen if one is consumed by it. All previous relationships are destroyed, eventually leading to the destruction of the individual themselves. 🔥🚗 If an ideal becomes a goal, then prepare for the madness that will ensue upon never being able to fully attain it, just like Christine repairing over and over again, feeding off that self-destruction.
I was in kind of a similar position when I read the book. I was losing weight and started to become more masculine in the way I look and in the way I thought, but I lost my friends in the process. They didn't accept the new, quieter, maturer, disciplined and intenser me. Exactly how no one accepts Arnie's love for Christine. So he becomes frustrated and can only give those people hate back. They liked him more when he was weak and vulnerable. His new passion and new self are not accepted, so he starts to roam the streets at night, hidden behind the wheel of Christine👿.
@@pichaelpyers1738 It's true, a lot of "friends" only remain so as long as you're below them, which is pretty sad. In Arnie's case though, he so refused to acknowledge where he came from, in favor of where he was later on, that he destroyed anything that reminded of him of his past. I guess that's one way to be "driven" to madness 😅. But stay on the grind man, if you're not looking back every now and then and wondering how you survived to where you are now, you ain't doin it right 😈
@@Tygrysku22 Oh man, thinking back to the time I read the book makes me feel nostalgic rn. It was end of summer after my Vacation. Everytime something bad happened to Arnie I was enraged or got goosebumps. He was a "literally me" character for me😂. Anything that hurt him hurt me. I literally ended the book with tears too. I'm propably the only one who had such an experience with the book. Arnie is quite different in the book too and his dad cares a lot about him. In the book Arnies dad BEGS Dennis to do something because he feels like he's losing his son. SPOILER: (At the end Arnie and his Mother die in a Car crash after Arnie tried to fight his obsession. So Arnies dad lost everything at the end, which makes it even sadder).
Many people underestimate the power of movie edits. Most use them as a purely stylistic medium. But I prefer to use them as statements. Editing creates context between separate scenes. By creating a movie edit you can create your own context through the given material. Sometimes I don't even know what my own message was supposed to mean until someone in the comments points it out. It just blasts out of me while editing, so I'm left with questions about my own creations afterwards lol.
@@pichaelpyers1738 You put it so perfectly, as an editor, I do resonate with every word you've said. Making a statement is much more engaging and meaningful. I love the creative freedom editing gives you and that feeling of making something very personal, a creation of your own and though lots of work is needed to achieve that, I think it's worth it every time. Sometimes you get 'carried away' yeah, by your edit like it has a will of its own haha. About the message of an edit, it can vary depending on your POV cuz "we don't see things as they are, we see things as we are", but I like how your friend Sam subtly peels off the nuances and meanings of your edits, he's a great 'companion' for an editor, you're lucky to have him:) I love the dark tones and the 'heavy' atmosphere of your vids; you're doing justice (and more) to every movie you edit, keep the gates open 😉✌️
@@FeroxNyamin A tip is, never use a song in it's full length. The same goes for some movies. If the video looks like you've just reuploaded the movie then it's likely to get copyrighted. But sometimes you can't avoid Copyright infringements. 90% of my videos have some sort of Copyright problem but it's not that big of a deal as long as they don't get entirely deleted. So keep up the work✌️😉.
I downloaded the entire movie. The method I used back then doesn't work anymore tho. So I can only recommend you get a VPN and torrent the movies you need 🤘
