Brit pop/indie was the most British or dare i say English music after early 70s glam & heavy metal imo. The beatles were the original brit pop along with the Mersey sound the Who from south but as much as I love the Stones they were American sounding. Punk was taken from the new york scene and built upon. The mod sound was hard to define as it was more a euro fashion thing with mods listening to adopted bands like the who, the easybeats and American soul. The northern soul scene was the true mod crew but not as well.off as their southern counterparts. The Jam were more post punk than mod. The two tone ska scene was very Brit. The 80s were again influenced by American and Euro music until the Manchester sound. After that it's all gone back to American influences like hip hop. The British indie scene is small now only the Arctic Monkey, Moz, Kasabian and a few others are doing new music. Depeche mode still making records but most British indie is the old bands touring old stuff. The cult release albums infrequently but are really American now.
@4th_Lensman_of_the_apocalypse Same age as me. I been a fan since 80. I'll call them whatever I want. Best fkn band still out there touring and putting out new music. Not sure about that angle your spinning. lol!!!
Didn't think Weller ever got on with Madness? I know Madness and The Specials were friendly (same music) but in the 70s/early 80s Weller was Jam and didn't think Jam rated the others. I know Style Council era was more in line with Specials and Madness but then Weller went more mod and rock and indie.
@@gunofapreacherman1340 yeah happens if you're not careful. Weller likes a tipple same with suggs but suggs looks like he works out. Flea and Anthony from the chilli peppers are around the same age as Weller and Suggs yet look a lot younger. Watch the beer and hit the gym after 50 should reduce the man boobs.😃
@@gunofapreacherman1340 I saw that he was hitting the gym a while back which made ne think he might have quit. He might of made the common mistake of taking suppliments on top of meals.
This is the song that most reviews of The Jam's Setting Sons (1979) album said was the worst track on it. But The Jam started out as a soul covers band, so it was entirely appropriate. Through my headphones, this version sounds rather tired and lacking energy, but I suppose that's because most of the people playing on it are quite old, like me. It might have worked better if they'd all been playing the right bits at the right time (I'm looking at you, Mr Bedford).
Left Madness back in 2014 to pursue a solo career then initially intended to return but then had a brain tumor. He is now well and recovering but I don't think there's any plans for him to return any time soon
Oh dear a bunch of men in their mid sixties playing a song from the mid 1960's - is this really the last days of rock'n'roll - and more importantly was it supposed to end like this?
@@CB-xr1eg of course it is - just look at the past two decades - where are all the great singers/song writers/bands which will have the longevity of Paul Weller/Madness/the Specials ?

Great performances by all. Let's also give some appreciation to the two backing singers as they were top quality too.
I was there. It was a real treat to hear Paul Weller sing with Madness and Lynval Golding jam along too. It was great day made even better!
So jealous!
Ahh man this looks so cool. Wish I was there.
Too hot that f weekend...was there too!
The MODFATHER with The MADFATHER. Double WOW!!! 🏁🛵😎👍
Saw Madness twice and The Jam three times in the early 1980's. Perfect!
Saw all three bands in the late 70s and early 80s. Best times of my life. In my 60s nowadays and I say thank fuck for youtube!
dream come true, the jam, madness and the specials playing together
The jam i wish. More like style council
+jessie .james two thirds of the Jam weren't there....
@@glennoc8585 of all weller projects style council is my favourite
It would have been 30 years ago, I'd rather watch my 72 year old Dad, he's no singer but he's a dancer.
Brilliant!😎🏁🎶
Brits, you gave the world, the greatest music ever, yes, the artists are getting old, but the legacy will still live on.
Lalo Verdad thanks man where do you live ?
Brits gave the world the best music ever??? They are covering an American Motown song. Badly I might add...

Madness and Paul Weller together on stage awesome
Love Madness- they have been a part of my personal soundtrack since the start.
Awesome to be growing old with this lot.
Weller total class
Mr Paul Weller is always incredible. Can’t wait to see him live in November.
Just needed a member of the Clash, that would have been my 4 favourite bands together.
Absolutely awesome,long live our legend's 🛵🎷🕶️🏁🇬🇧
What a fantastic festival, hopefully another 40 years of madness 😁

I love this version, even when Paul comes in too earlier after the sax solo.
U a show off
Lovely
I've always wondered where young ska bands would practice. Not many rehearsal studios around that can hold 20 people! 😆 this video is terrific BTW
Quality comes to mind 🎶🎵🎵
Lynval and suggs.. crushing on them since 1979

Check out The Jam's version
The Jam's version of this on Setting Sons is breakneck and savage. I suppose you can't expect Weller to do his nut like that in his sixties, though.
Dont remember this on setting songs ,great album

Paul weller looks more like a former 70s rock star than a mod these days.
He has old man tits now too.
