Just wanted to say this was an amazing video. Not too long, not too short. The right amount of “just the facts” straightforward info, mixed with the right amount of subjective opinions. Great graphics, great video and sound quality, and especially liked the labeling of each insert shot so you know if you’re looking at Oura or Whoop. I’ve never hit the “subscribe” button faster! Really top notch work.
Great video man! In-depth, super informative, and you did it just over 6 minutes. I’ve seen some other videos that were over 20 minutes that didn’t provide nearly as much information. Keep it up!
I have been wearing a Whoop since 2017 when the 2.0 version came out. I love the functionality and how they continue to add new features. I highly recommend the Whoop.
Interesting video. I tried both but in my case ended up with the Whoop strap. For me the reason was comfort. I put on both at the same time intending to keep them on as long as possible. About one month in the Oura Ring got uncomfortable. I took it off and never put it back on. The Whoop strap is still there, and it will be two years straight in September 2023. I occasionally wear an Apple Watch now instead of an Oura Ring, but that goes off at not for charging, so it isn't as practical for full-time data collection as the Whoop.
For anyone reading this - the Oura ring *appears* to be cheaper and is definitely more fashionable. The issue is that it is incredibly easy to lose and impossible to track if you do lose it. Have had to replace mine 4x in last 3 years. Maybe I’m a dumbass but because Oura is more delicate hardware (ie. not recommended to wear in shower, gets scratched up easily) and is on your finger actively interfering with anything that you might use your hands for, I would constantly take it on / off and it is so small / easy to lose track of. The Whoop strap is something that once on your wrist is out of sight/out of mind, only coming off to charge. You can even charge it while it’s on your wrist which is neat. The tracking capabilities are comparable so would just think twice about how responsible you believe you are. I like the ring form factor > Whoop but not worth it if you need to replace it all the time.
Surely you can’t knock the ring because you can’t seem to stop loosing them. It’s waterproof so no need to take it off everyday for a shower as you say. Yes it will scratch like anything else you own, if you can’t keep track of where your putting things maybe you would be better of just letting it scratch 🤦♂️
Go with any company but Whoop. The device is okay. The company is horrible and their support is non responsive. They even ghosted my card issuer when I finally gave up and disputed the charge on my busted 4.0 (that took forever to actually arrive).
I'm leaning towards the Whoop. I train mostly with kettlebells. A ring would get trashed very quickly with constant scraping on the kettlebell handle. I have a Garmin Smartwatch, but that also is in the way when I train with kettlebells, so I end up taking it off 75% of the time I work out. What attracts me most to Whoop is being able to wear the tracker on my upper arm... Where it won't be in the way or get damaged.
Nice conclusion. You made it clear which works for better for the user's purpose and didn't go into too much detail about your what you did, making it clear they're pretty accurate.
Thoroughly enjoyed the video! Useful. Straight to the point. I currently use a Garmin Venu and it works well but I don’t wear it during sleep. I try but end up taking it off in my sleep. Going to change the rubber stap to an elastic one and see. But if I choose to buy a new tracker, I’ll opt for the oura ring.
@@asanta2023 i guess Apple watch but only because it's a more universal device. I have music on it, apple pay, Peloton+ is perfectly connected, i check my emails and messages through the watch....and finally, that is one awesome fitness tracker. On the other hand, i learned alot about my sleeping habits with Oura, i found that that i have occassional breathing disturbance in the sleep (possible apnea, i need to check that), also the app has lot of meditate, breathe and sleep sessions so really i don't wanna choose between those 2😃
This is a really interesting take that I hadn’t considered. Do you have the newest Apple Watch and Oura Ring? Do you think your experience would be different with their older products?
Wow how interesting for me it’s super accurate with my body temperature especially during that time of the month as a woman and when I have gotten sick with a fever
I’ve been considering getting the Oura ring just because I like to wear a regular watch on certain occasions instead of having to keep my Apple Watch on all the time.
Good job of compare and contrast! No one is going in-depth tutorials for app usage, but you at least spend more time than most explaining what they do.
Best combination is to go garmin and ring. Garmin for performance for sure. Ring for complimenting the lack in garmin plus on your regular lifestyle chores that maybe you wanna rock a “going out” watch or jewelry then oura ring for sure
My Oura ring konked out after about three years. The battery stopped recharging for some reason. The battery is not replaceable. Other than that it worked great. Didn't have to worry about showering or washing the dishes or knocking it around. The only info that was useful for me was the resting heart rate at night. HRV measurements were redundant. Sleep info was ehh. Readiness assumed I was a wimp.
Having watched a lot of videos especially of quantified scientist, I'd say if fitness is your thing, just get a sports watch or smart watch. GPS and heart rate are significantly more accurate on those. That being said, Oura ring seems like a better form factor, less annoying for sleeping and you can wear other stuff on your wrists like analogue watches etc
Awesome video jam packed with useful information. Thank you! I'm leaning Oura as well. I have sleeves on both arms so I have to get a very specific spot on my right wrist for my apple watch to really work much at all. Not sure if I'd have that issue on whoop but I know with oura I won't. & Will be much more likely to be comfortable wearing the ring to bed vs a watch
Oura is always sending out firmware updates which means it’s always improving… my biggest issue is doing weight training you have to take it off or it will be scratched up… their sleep metric be on point also …
I saw a new product called "OSleeve" is a Oura protection cover, I haven't try yet but it looks it really protects the ring and supposly it doesn't interrupt the biometrics.
I've been using oura ring for some time now and I'm pretty happy with it. I'm wondering though, have you noticed any differences in the measurements between the two devices? For example, do they both give you the same stats for heart rate, hrv, steps etc...?
They definitely give slightly different metrics. That's the one things about modern fitness trackers, there is always going to be a margin of error. Looking into doing a test to monitor accuracy in the future
yes, exactly - that’s what I am wondering too. I read somewhere that the Oura ring doesn’t continuously measure HR, HRV etc, only every x minutes or so during the night, which makes me wonder whether the data set it bases its analysis on is a good bit worse than Whoop. I have a Whoop and am very happy with it and the data I get but have looked at the Oura ring out of interest. I now also track my HR/HRV via the Polar H10 strap and the Elite HRV app.
I happen to look at Amazon's Halo ... I was sold after watching the video the ring won! For everyone who reads my comment
Don’t ever choose whoop
I just bought it for 2 days and it dead
And I’m not the only person got this problem
If you don’t believe what I say
You can search it
I buy it because so many athletes use this like.. CR7
I saw the one they send you is reused
The ring gets in my way when I lift weights.
Nice comparison ✌️but i find it kinda counterintuitive that they build in a social media function into a self optimizing device when most coaches and authors in this field tell you not to use social media except for buisness stuff 😂
Does either one tell you how quickly you fall asleep?
Good video of you weren’t being paid by Oura
I wish they were a sponsor of my videos lol have a video coming soon on why some people may want to choose whoop because of their latest updates. Stay tuned
@@NoahCBanks you profit from the affiliate link? If there was none this could be an unbiased review not like I would do any different tho no shame
i just go with wear both for the rest of my life haahah
Until the one Thanos level wearable comes out that does everything 😂
@@NoahCBanks hahah yes!
I had absolutely nothing but trouble with Whoop.. the 3.0 was great, the 4.0 is trash
im wellness focused
no mention that all these devices require a subscription model.............
Yep both require a subscription model. Mentioned in my individual Oura Ring and whoop review videos 😉
I you have a cardiac arrhythmias, the Oura ring is useless in its current version. Whoop is OK.
But even with arrhythmia the Oura ring can detect your nap, one thing the Whoop can't do.
