    How can you not love RUclips. Just over a year ago, I couldn't find any boater hat instructions. And now!!! It goes straight to my playlist.

    This is the best tutorial for boater construction I've seen so far, and I've been searching for awhile. Thank you so much! On another note, that doll head is the stuff of nightmares 😅

    Je découvre votre chaine et j'ai regardé pratiquement une dizaine de vidéos à la file. Le contenu est très instructif, que ce soit pour le tracé des patrons ou la construction, les explications sont très claires. Bonjour de la Réunion ! 🐬🐬🐳🐳🌴🌴🌴

    Thank you, this was an excellent sewing video on how to make a boater. I want to make one for a boy doll that I made by referring to a 1913 paper doll illustration. After seeing how it’s done. I guess it would take at least three days to make even though it’s small (around 13” diameter).

    Really good video. I have not seen your technique of sewing the petersham to the brim before sewing it to the crown. I usually put in the head size ribbon last. I also will lightly mist the petersham with water so it shrinks slightly for a smoother fit.

    Hi Stitching Vulture. My favourite fashion boater got ruined in the rain and I couldn't afford a custom made one. I quite enjoy hand sewing so I am very glad I found this tutorial!
    One question, is there a way to soften the angle between top piece and crown slightly, maybe sew in some kind of light padding? Thanks again for this clear and perfectly paced tutorial.

    • @StitchingVulture
      @StitchingVulture  2 года назад

      If you make it a slightly bigger head size, you can pad it with either batting covered in fabric or a professional padded head band.

    I am wanting to make a boater with a very wide brim that is sturdy. Do you suggest I add vertical wires on the brim and if so what is the best way to attach them?

    • @StitchingVulture
      @StitchingVulture  Год назад +1

      Yes, the wider the brim, the more horizontal structure you'll need. Use wire to brace it.

    Are the sides of the crown supposed to be lumpy?

    • @StitchingVulture
      @StitchingVulture  11 месяцев назад

      No, the sides should be smooth. Check the size of the brim head opening. It might be restricting the crown.

    Where do you get your materials? I’ve only been able to find the lightest weight buckram and never any sinamay.. I’m in AZ & there’s not a millinery supply anywhere in the state that I’ve found :(

    • @StitchingVulture
      @StitchingVulture  2 года назад +2

      I order from Hat Supply (Leko), and Judith M. You can also find sellers on eBay and Etsy. I usually get my buckram from Burlapfabric .com.

      @@JennasSister You can also double a lightweight buckram. Just steam the two layers together between parchment paper.

    You wouldn’t now how to stretch one ever so slightly if the hat is a tad too small and needs reshaping?

    • @StitchingVulture
      @StitchingVulture  3 года назад +3

      A wire frame boater? You can't resize it without rebuilding it. You can resize straw and felt though. You'll need a hat stretcher and steam.
