Hybrid wars: The Insight strikes back!
Great Presenter. I like his calm, straightforward way. Great!
THIS IS SOOOO AWESOME !!!
now i can use my laptop upside down !!!
i was in a situation where i had to choose between those two cars i chose insight the reason for that it has smaller engine, lesser tax and to be honest insight looks far more futuristic and more attractive.
chris latham how do you do it??? i have a 2010 working well, every thing, only gives me 39 at most
@amoghthegamer do you have a link to those prices? i just called nissan of omaha and they dont have any prices available, leaf wont be in stock for 5-6 months.
Awesome, But why don't the brakes need replacement??what kind of brakes does it used???
I would buy the insight just because I live with a Prius right now and I'm so used to the interior it's kinda boring.
@Rezxer The Prius Effect? I did not know that thanks. In the Insight the backlight shows green when you're driving efficiently and blue when you're not, not everyone like it but I do. And after every trip when you turn off the engine it'll show you the Eco score. If you drive efficiently in the long run it'll even award you with trophies LOL in 3 stages. Prius doesn't have that right? Prius and Insight don't look identical, they just have a similar aerodynamic shape and they're both hatchbacks.
che figata i video a testa in giu!!
The Prius offers some high-end features usually found only on vehicles sold by Toyota's Lexus division, including adaptive cruise control, Lane Keep Assist with lane-departure warning, and Intelligent Parking Assist that provides hands-free parallel parking. Other new options include a solar roof panel that can power a ventilating fan when the car is parked, and electric air conditioning that can be turned on for up to three minutes to cool down the interior before getting in.
what is usual mpg or kpl for these cars? thanks
Link to part 2?
Hey Im choosing between the insight and the Fit. Can someone tell which is better?
what is the battery life on the Prius??
have u modded ur honda with mugen parts?
nice review. i love prius' interior.
In the month of Oct. 2009, the VW Jetta TDI sold 1,839 units. In that same period of time, the Toyota Prius sold 14,569 units.
THIS IS AWESOME
both are great, and are always going to top the volt.
Where is the Geo Metro? In the magazine they threw in the Geo Metro to see if it could achieve the same gas mileage as these two Hybrids and it did..
The last I recall, my house is teaming with electrical outlets. In fact I strongly suspect that there are more outlets around my house than there are gas stations in a 10 mile radius of my home. Tell what is more convenient than that?
in the upper right hand corner it asks if you prefer the older setup or what ever, click on it and it will return to regular broadcast. all vids are doing it now, real pain in the BUTT
Did you know that trains are electric/diesel hybrids and have been so for a very long time? Did you think the people carry the products made on an assembly line?
@rob2049
I thought the rare earth are from Australia?
For most normal drivers including myself, torque is more important than horsepower especially for hill climbing. For the version of Honda Insight in my country (which is from Japan itself), the combined torque is 199Nm which is quite amazing from such a small engine. The low end torque is very good. It's higher than many 1.6Litres or even 1.8/2.0Litres, 174Nm/188Nm (Civic). It takes around 10.4 seconds to reach 100km/hr as shown in part 2 of the video, beats Prius.
thanks
Voice-activated touch-screen DVD navigation+NavTraffic with a 500 watt JBL DSP MP3 sound system with 8 speakers, satellite radio, hands-free phone & music streaming via Bluethooth, backup camera Smart Keyless entry with push botton start & remote start, Pre-Collision System, Advanced Driver and front passenger airbags + Knee airbags, Front seat mounted airbags and front and rear side curtain airbags. Those are just a few of the features that the Prius offers.
Yeah, a buddy of mine had a bright yellow one. I have always loved Hondas too. Thing is, that CRX was tiny man...really tiny. It didn't have 6 airbags and it basically had two seats...not 4 with 4 doors. As good a car as it was...it was a dinosaur compared to either of these. Also, are you sure about that 41/50? I knew it had fantastic fuel mileage, but that seems a bit high...remember too, EPA mileages would rate much higher then.
Its a good thing that cars are considerably smaller than trains or buses. It should make it a lot easier to move the car. There is no downside to that although I am interested to know what you come up with to support your argument.
I like the insight better looking more fun to drive I had a prius and felt like a retired grampa lol I'm 29 years old, passing the 150k miles mark the prius become a money pit with its more electric oriented design (try to find someone to work on a electric problem in a prius in Texas) the insight is more on the mechanical side so you get the best of both worlds
I know you don't realize this, but the 2004-2009 Prius, has twin reversible electric motors, with a max of 10,000rpm, that make 67hp & 295 lbs torque, that is powered by a 500 volt electric battery.
It's not as slow as people think. The 04-09Prius basically has the power of a 2.5 Liter I-4, but gets twice the mileage.
These cars weren't built for performance, they were built to be the most efficient, which they are. Your Monte Carlo was built for performance, which it isn't the best at.
YT is posting things upside down Love it.
@RJL1981
nope sticker is 42K, but you can haggle down to 40K, government will pay 7.5K, most states pay from 2.5-7.5 K too. Here in Nebraska, the total price for a Nissan Leaf is $22,380 for the base and $24,810 for top of the line. The volt is $23,180 for the base and $25,189 for the top of the line.
it's almost as if today is a day where people will be pranking each other all the time
Diesel Electrics don't use a third rail. The diesel engine powers a generator that provides electric power to the motors that turn the wheels. This technology was first used in 1957. Most trains in North America are powered this way. They also use regenerative braking.
@amoghthegamer I also want to point out that Toyota's hybrid system has the same warranty the Insight does. 8yrs/100k miles, that covers the battery, inverter, and all other hybrid components.
A Prius starting at $23,000 still gets you more goodies, like smart entry & smart start, push button start, standard 7 airbags, including one for the drivers knee, 89g of Co2 per kilometer compared to 104g of Co2 for the Insight. For $2,000 more, I can get a larger car with more power, and better mpg.
@RJL1981
oh no not locally, Iam talking about from Cali or NY. Iam just saying, once it does launch here, then you can get it down here. I didn't know you were purchasing right now, cause then, you'd have to buy later, I thought you were buying down the line....
impressive!
Both cars are great..
@FrontalTraction Actually they're both appliances!
I Like it that everything is uqside down :)
how about a drag race!!
Those steering wheel buttons on the Prius don’t age well I have one
2muchskill4you:
I'm almost positive that the design cues were more for an aerodynamic approach, rather than the aesthetic cutesie look. They just happen to come out looking that way, lol.
I totally agree, here's another way of looking at it. A Yaris or some other small car costs 12 to 15 thousand. A hybrid costs 20 to thirty thousand. How much gas could you by for that extra, say, ten thousand dollars.
What small diesel did you buy?... Im not sure what country ur from but here in england we have small vw diesels that are very reliable, small citroens and fords that are very reliable.... Suprised you had that much go wrong tbh..
Honda insight is very powerful than Prius and Prius is very expensive in Sri Lanka
@amoghthegamer wow, that's a great price. Manuf. sticker price on the EX w/nav is like $23k. I guess dealers are willing to bargain?
I'll be shopping for an Insight this week and want at least the EX. Would love to get it under $20k
@happyblackie different vehicles. I'd go for the fit myself. Top tier mileage for a gas-only car, nice looking, same nimble chassis with more power./ But if I was going to get a hybrid it would be the insight.
That's called as "aerodynamic" design.
yea, they are still working on the systems, there are still many little things they need to do about it
So, is the Prius the better car if you look past the price difference?
2nd generation Prius owner, and Its a great car, comforable , and passes so many gas stations.
Some people say the Toyota Prius is bad because of the recall that happened with the gas petal and the media making a hugh deal about it because they had nothing else to talk about back then. Before that no one had anything to say and most of the people that put the car down never even driven or owned one before. Most new and used cars has had recalls, big and small put out there about something. It's just the media doesn't have time to talk about each car. If they did no one would buy anything.
33 mpg on the highway... That sucks!
My wife gets 55 mpg per tank, in her 2007 Prius. That's not highway or city, it's everywhere.
The 2010 Prius is rated at 48 mpg on the highway and can go 600 miles on one tank of gas.
But wait, there's more. You spend $40+ to fill that tank, while Prius owners only spend $25.
Hell, her car was down to one bar of gas last week, and it wasn't even blinking yet, but I wanted to fill it for her. I had a $20 bill. That filled it up.
lol Is youtube upside down cause of 1st April or something ?
I'm glad you mentioned it lol!
:))))))))))
verry nice!
@amoghthegamer Toyota Hybrid-related components for hybrid vehicles are covered for 8 years/100,000 miles. Basic is 36mos/36,000. Power train is 60 mos, 60k. Not bad...
Not sure what mode they used to test the acceleration of Insight, S mode is even faster than normal D mode.
@amoghthegamer Plus, Honda has been having trouble with their batteries. The type of battery's all Honda hybrids have used are the very outdated D-Cell batteries, compared to the sealed modules that Toyota's been using since 2000. Plus, the Insight, along with any other Honda hybrid does not have a battery equalizer. So over time, your battery cells will get unbalanced which can lead to dead cells which also leads to cell replacement.
Prius. Pretty?
Do you have cataracts??
why the hell everything is upside down when i watch this vid o.O
Just a minute. The Fit? That instrument cluster and steering wheel are actually from the Civic. Research, people. Research!
@Rezxer They are also different types of hybrids. Prius is a full hybrid (2 electric motors) and Insight is a mild hybrid (1 electric motor) and cost less. I personally love the Insight after driving it. It's like playing a game when driving it, it appeals even more to gamers like myself lol. Toyota's design is a little boring for me. That's normal because generally Toyotas appeal to older people while Hondas appeal to the younger ones. Thanks :].
man your so cool, i wish i could be as cool as you
Toyota and Honda keep improve hybrid technology. the earth and peopel who care about enviroment will appreciate that.
imagine how much one of those batteries cost
@meesterbrian
still was $22,995 so yeah $23K, they had only the Navi and the LX in stock. They needed to meet their quota for the end of the month so he sold me the Navi for $19 or the LX for $17, I took the Navi for resale value and it came with blue-tooth too. if you wait till the end of November that would be better so you can get a better price since they all will be trying to get their quota. you can definitely get the EX under $20K FOR SURE. just tell em you liked the Prius!!!!!
They are the same features that are found on luxury cars that cost anywhere from $45,000 Volvos to $130,000 Mercedes. It's is to prevent people from falling asleep at the wheel and driving off the highway or road and hurting or worse killing themselves. This happens a lot to people who have long commutes or a very long tip ahead of them.
he said for the prius that if the wind gets tangled up in the wheel well, it reduces drag...hmm...
@ale03000 They're being compared because they're aiming for the same market -- those looking for fuel efficient hybrids.
I believe Honda created the Insight specifically to compete with the Prius. Frankly, they would have done a better job if they had created some supply. Back around the time I was in the market for a new car, the Insight was damn near impossible to find...so the few around was ridiculously expensive.
Comparing these two cars is like comparing an ES 350 to an Accord or a TL to a Camry. While they technically achieve the same goals, one has a lot more to offer in the way of features and smoothness and refinement then the other.
is it true that the batteries in these cars are polluting the environment? and needs the car to travel at least 45000 miles to be at the break even?
@renefern Yes but Diesel Cost more than Gas does.
@amoghthegamer I've been hearing horror stories about the Civic hybrid a lot lately, stating that the battery is failing before the warranty, so they updated the hybrid ECU to use the battery less which means dropped mpg's and power. So now it's designed to fail right after the warranty runs out. I don't think this is true with the Insight, however. I'm not bad mouthing the Insight, I like the Insight just as much as the other guy, but the Prius was better thought out.
Got some proof of that?
I had common rail diesel cars (small engines), now I want to buy a Honda hybrid...in my opinion, the common rail engine is very expensive, I spent a lot of money for devices that were breaking, injectors, injection pump, the coupons are also very expensive. The old diesel cars, that were more simple, were slower cars but more reliable. Too many devices around this modern common rail (the money I have saved with the advantages of diesel, I spent on assistance of car).
sad that the original insight got a minimum of 60MPG and these only get 45. why are we going backwards?
If you're looking for a fuel efficient car to save money, I'll tell you the best new car sleeper deal on the market, the 2010 Hyundai Accent "Blue" model. Get the manual transmission with no a/c (if you can live without a/c, up here in Chicago that's pretty easy). I got mine for $9,100, $11,000 after taxes and fees. I'm getting 40 mpg in city driving, no highway miles. I imagine once I do get on the highway I'll be getting 45 mpg+.
@amoghthegamer Great points, I never knew how much cheaper the insight is. Most have already crowned the Prius king, but I still have an open mind...
I give the nod to the Prius for mpg and exterior styling. Honda seems to be stuck in the past with its exterior design. Interior "fluid" like design is nice on the prius but I Insight is better overall, IMO. I'm looking to buy new in 2 years so I can't wait to see what the future may bring for electric and hybrid vehicles!
Hello this is Matthew from the future
@@matthew7972 Hi Matthew I now drive a Prius !
@@Idiotsincarshere awesome, looking to buy a Prius prime, Prius, or the Corolla hybrid. Hard to choose from
Really, the gas guzzling crowd seems so proud. I think you have it backwards. They remind me of dogs who run in circles chasing their own tails.
The thing is, the civic hybrid has things like low resistance tires for more mpg, and the insight has normal tires to make the feel more 'normal'. Honda should make the insight as economical as possible, and the civic hybrid as user friendly as possible. That should teach Toyota. Honda could have made tons of $ from the first insighht if it was 4 dr.
LOL RUclips U GOT ME
EPA numbers don't reflect the Insight's real-life mileage numbers. Many reviews have gotten near-Prius economy from the Insight.
@MDIVISIONRULES That's true so long as the price of diesel is not significantly more expensive than gas/petrol, as it is here in the USA. I would have bought a Golf TDI instead of a Prius, but diesel is 50 cents a gallon more expensive, wiping out any savings. Furthermore, I am getting 54mpg (equivalent to 65mpg in Europe) from the Prius and the Golf would have returned only about 36mpg.
Your point?
What type of engine is used to power the vast majority of industry and why do you think that is? If you have ever been to a factory of virtually any kind, most of the movement is powered by electric motors. If ICE is so marvelous, why isn't it used to power industry?
The New Prius is defetly looking better with his new front.
Excelent cars!
The car is a boy?
szia
mire gondolsz?
@UnitedPebbles It might be so, I know the first and second generation had that route. Even if it is Australia, that is even worse!
I couldn't have said it better
GM needs to make a car exactly like the Prius with similar or better MPG/specifications and the exact competitive price.
Fossil fuels have to be refined, trucked, shipped or piped through expensive potentially damaging pipelines. Electricity needs wires and is delivered instantly over vast distances.
They have been known to last 361,000 miles before they started to ware out. That's way longer then I ever plan on keeping any car. The Prius is one of the easiest cars to maintain that I have ever seen. All you have to do is change the oil ($25) every 5,000 miles and at about 90,000 to 100,000 miles change the 4 spark plugs and transmission fluid. That's it! No high priced timing belt server like other cars, no belts to change, since it doesn't have any, you don't even have to change the brakes!
The same kind of brakes every other car has, but the electric motor helps stop the car as well. Which means the brakes don't have to work nearly as hard as others cars. Making them last way longer then other brakes. Because of this, the Prius has a lot of stopping power because of the electric motor, which by the way is very powerful, it makes the brakes and engine last way longer then in a normal car. The electric motor in the 07 Prius has 295 lb-ft of torque powered by a 500 volt battery.
prius is the king of hybrid
Honda's strategy is interesting: its new insight looks just like the last gen prius, gets about the same mileage as the last gen prius, except it costs 4-5k less while Toyota's improvement isn't on the price side but on the tech side. The new mpg is great, but seriously, the roof solar panel that can only work when you park and basically turn on the interior fans (recirculates air)...is a little gimmicky.
IM CONFUSED
It's called April Fools day...
You need to read up on ultracapacitors. Portable and instantly charged. There is a whole new world out there you are not aware of.
But why compare them? Even though they both have a similar aerodynamic shape, the Prius is a bigger C segment car, and the Insight is a slightly smaller B segment car.
