Have you considered or tried adding a piece of glass over your heat mat? That would heat up and transfer the heat so fast that I think it would level things out but still give you the heat that you need. You could even use a slightly bigger piece of glass than the mat, which is what I do. Edit to enter the giveaway - thanks for that . You probably won't see my suggestion now though 😂
