There will be a Hiking Stick run, but all of them failed except for one where I got STUPID amounts of luck with curses. So yea, that's not the way to do it
I did a baby run with hiking sticks today, super hilarious with 24 hiking sticks flooding you with +range and considering the amount of sticks the range modifier to AS is barely noticeable. What's even more hilarious was to find the DEX-troyer legendary sword shame i didn't exactly have the stats to properly wield it, but being able to throw it to the edge of the screen was still kind of fun by itself, the wave i died i had so much range i could see the DEX-troyer fly away just to be gone for a few seconds... guess it just kept on flying.
the secret i found with this guy is to go four lances, two hiking sticks, and don't hardsac range. range might seem silly when you've gone all melee and have all that speed to control your positioning, but also: all that speed makes it hard to control your position _with any degree of precision,_ so the extra range lets just ignore that problem entirely and zoom around while stabbing things with plenty of buffer room to move around in. plus while the range does impact your single target dps in theory, in practice the extra threat range and active frames on all those stabby weapons will plow through crowds incidentally and let you just focus on staying within range of whoever you're trying to focus there's a bit of a golden synergy between speed and range that becomes more obvious when you get a good run of accumulating both, and that's that speed means you close the distance between you and a priority target in less time and range means there's less distance you need to cover in the first place. plus, one issue with range is how too much of it can force you to manually focus down a target with left-click since it makes it easier for your weapons to get distracted by other enemies, but with a lot of speed? you can just zoom out of range of the other enemies for the time you need to focus-fire something, then zoom back towards the crowd once that's down and they'll already be back to covering every direction. once you get a handle on the amount of map control that the combo gives, there's a flow to the waves that's p. damn effective at just avoiding danger altogether
Honestly the hikers biggest issue is far from the weapon choices in general. He's a character who get very little experience and honestly allowing his "walking materials" to be counted as exp would fix most of the issues with the character. My recommendation is to just take 6/6 walking sticks for the harvesting bonus, then just grab harvesting early on to compensate a bit. Usually when you play the game levels ain't exactly noticeable sometimes you are ahead sometimes you are a bit behind, but most of the time you are able to level at least once per stage... the hiker on the other hand will always be behind no matter what you do and near the end it's massive about 10 levels worth of stats. Best thing to do with him is seriously to ignore everything related to attacks speed and instead push to hit hard and far which is fairly easy with the hiking sticks, just pick melee dmg but more importantly %-dmg and decent speed, no need to go overboard, in fact it feels like speed both increase the "length of a step" and how many steps you take so the bonus beyond certain points just seem non-existent.
Hello Dex. I was just messing with curse stat and the farmer with cursed pruners and a lot of structure speed can LITERALLY outscale the harvesting decrease u should try it imo

Bit of both in my opinion. Speed for sure have diminishing returns, at least when it comes to us as players. I guess if we could keep walking in one direction it would always be worth it to take speed, but since we need to sometimes stop, turn etc. more and more of the distance we travel turn into the step animation more so then multiple steps taken. Most of my successful runs with the walking stick in general I've had decent speed around 130% or so but beyond this point I didn't notice much of a difference in how many stats i gained per wave, not to mention after a certain point it just become harder to dodge stuff since the character move further then you intend too... even while stutter stepping since you travel further per step animation.
Well, I don't know if you're playing it wrong, but around this patch, I used to play full jousting lance hiker pretty heavily and I dealt pretty hefty damage on the first elite, enough to comfortably kill them, this was back when hiker still had -15% speed instead of -5% Granted it feels like you're getting too little material, I don't quite remember how much I made, but I'm pretty sure it's more than 300 by waves 10
It's honestly so refreshing to hear you talk about how annoying and bad this character is. I've been playing it for the last two days - it's the last of the new characters I have left to beat on Danger 5 - and when you dropped this video I was pre-frustrated that you were going to just wreck it. You saying this character is too hard and poorly designed felt soooo good to hear. FWIW, I've got to wave 20 a few times starting with tazer, and going Elemental damage. Flamethrower is honestly tremendous running around so fast and killing the ranged waves.
Yo dex I got a crazy mod idea that might not even be possible, increase the fisherman’s curse gain by 100% but he can only get curse by killing cursed enemies, that means if you have 50 curse and buy something that increases curse it would remain at 50 curse
Hiker seems like a character who should be built like the pacifist. You dont need to defeat enemies to earn money, its just a bonus. Cant wait for the dlc to hit console because i want to try using knockback with hiking sticks to see how well I can use it to run around the map.
I feel like you might be using the jousting lances wrong. I do not play the game to try myself, but I think you're supposed to just keep the lances in front of you since they appear to do damage while they are extended, even if the enemy runs into it after it finishes extending. Again, I do not own it myself to try so this is just me backseating, but you might give it a try one time
Great video Dex. But, sorry from now on I am down voting every video that plays 4 ads in the first 2 mins, and especially those that play more ads than minutes in the video. You can blame it on youtube. I have tried multiple avenues, but nothing I've done prevents RUclips's ad abuse from coming back.

Could've really used a power generator. That would've made the run quite easy. Given that speed is probably not the "intended" item pool for hiker, that's why there's a huge difficulty gap between him and speedy.
I have never had more than 1 ugly tooth in any game i have played and i am hoping the chest drops have been resolved because after lvl 30 the trees stop dropping the chests.
Ya know, been playing the game without DLC while only using the weapon the character can use, and... My luck was somehow zero and still gave me three crates all from enemies one wave. However, it only came in useful for crates and critical hits. Other than that, it's somewhat hard to beat certain characters with only their starter weapons.
I feel like the devs need to change the negative or make the money making bonus better hiker feels like such a bad character even though you can be hitting for 400 with hiking sticks by wave 20
I think hes meant as a char which doesnt really fight. But instead focuses on harvesting and just running away without focusing on damage what so ever. All survival and running
You take only speed in level up upgrades unless reroll is way too expensive, and only jousting lances and speed items until you have a lot of money, and it was easier for me when I did that, I killed all bosses. Because you get way more materials and HP later on from your speed.
hiker seems to be weak, the amount you get from hiking isnt anywhere near enough. Also speed might not even work, getting similar amounts of materials with lots and without speed.

I wonder if the steps are unrelated to the distance traveled or speed and just depend on the walking animation itself

The successful run I had with this guy involved alien eyes and really leaning into his HP gain.

Even at the end, it was only getting 5 ticks of the increase over a whole round, definitely not worth the investment.
