@@Izunundara This is literally how I FINALLY got my Focus achievement: Act 1, early Creative AI, in a fight vs a slime, with 2 frost which block me 10 every turn so the slime doesn't damage me, I farmed powers until I had enough Biased Cognitions to get to 25 focus (I promptly lost that run the next fight because I was at 4 hp trying to get the achievement, but who cares)
Twice in a row I got it with the red hand relic that makes power cards cause a random card in your hand cost 0, that combo alone let's you steamroll

You clearly have Fusion wrong. The power of the Dark Side a pathway to many abilities some consider to be unnatural. And by Dark Side I mean a small deck with Fusion, and by unnatural I mean infinite.
Have a plasma orb? Coolheaded+, Dualcast+, Recursion+ and Compile Driver - all commons or starter you're likely to have or get - equals infinite damage that can go through a 2 damage Beat of Death. (You don't necessarily need Fusion for this - Nuclear Battery can work too.) Can struggle with Heart due to statuses, unless you have Calipers or Med Kit.
Have Skim, Dualcast+ and Hologram+ with a Fusion? Infinite Block (even though Beat of Death 1). Upgrade the Fusion to get infinite Energy for a Tempest infinite damage, or upgrade the Skim to get infinite redraw of an extra card every cycle for a Claw infinite damage. Or upgrade both Skim and Fusion and win with literally any damage dealing card, or get infinite Block through Beat of Death 2. (Recycle+ is highly recommended with Skim+ for resilience against Status cards.)
I tend to play Defect a lot more combo-ey, with more than my share of small deck Claw builds, but when the Claws aren't showing Fusion is my alternative. Actually, it's more accurate to say Claw is my alternative to Fusion - I only need one Fusion to go infinite. I'd put Fusion ahead of Claw in Claw tier - so literally the best Defect card period. The only instance I'm not picking it is if I already have one.
The only one I don't agree on is cretive AI. My pp gets really big and cooky when I see it... I mean... it is true that I mostly won't take it because it would just be a wound. But when I do have a deck in which it works... oh boy does it carry the run. You have one echo form and then you play creative ai, which then gives you another echo form... and you now have 3 echo forms... dood... badonkers. A tier for me, just for the hornyness it provides. My favorite thing about go for the eyes is using it to predict attacks whenever I grab the dome relic that hides enemies intentions. Has saved my life a couple times
Damn that's a decent strat that makes runic dome a little less scary to take sometimes. Never thought about using conditional cards like that to test the waters. I'll have to give that a try next time I get the chance.

I personally believe that overclock can be pretty epic for a number of reasons. It works really well in hallway fights, where you aren't going to cycle your deck as many times and draw into those burns. It also synergizes with all for one, so you can get more value out of those turbos you bring back into your hand. So while I'd only ever take one, I do think overclock deserves at least C tier, frostprime, you absolute cretin. Love the content, King Kong would win
It also speeds up your first deck cycle, which is all Defect wants in many cases. I don't take many of them but the first one is typically solid imo.
I think Hyper beam is S-tier. AoE 34 damage for 1 mana is auto win hallway fights for entire game.

Streamline isn't very good, but there's absolutely no universe in which it's worse than Scrape or Strike. It's pickable in act 1 when you need front-loaded damage, and you can play it multiple times even in short fights with stuff like Echo Form, Hologram, and Rebound.
Multi-Cast combos so well with Double Energy and a single darkness orb. Build up damage on the orb then multiply it by 10+ depending on the set up

If it's low in your draw pile, heatsink is usually just a card that says 'this card does nothing '. Same with storm. If heatsink is underrated than creative AI is, imo
can be really good in power driven deck, if you got a few storm+, then you're just happy to play a 1 mana do nothing, just to channel 2-3 lightning
Sts general card tier list is impossible to make because card value changes with the overall deck.

I have noticed this danger w/ Frost's tier list videos; I watch them, and then by the time he gets to cards starting with C, I'm like "I should play some StS" and then I'm not actively listening anymore XD Not conducive to learning
I never picked barrage before this video. Just did my highest ascension run easily thanks to the advice in this video.

my new defect jam is barrage + pen nib , nice to also have a sweeping beam in the deck too
if you can pull it off with akabeko (a little tricky with barrage as you need to get those orbs before your first attack) its also phenomenal ... but you can always wind up pen nib on a fight thats already over, or use defect's draw and defense to try and delay that first attack
I love Chaos cause upgrading it can evoke orbs and even basic, if you have upgraded Darkness, it can benefit, if you have Thunder Strike or Blizzard, it benefits. Also you have a chance of getting Plasma without using that 2 energy cost
yoo defect's the only class I've beaten A20 with, honestly most fun character in StS for me

Echo form saved my life so many times. I would use echo form so many times and ways that were unique. Being able to play high damage exhausted cards twice or being able to put two glaciers out for the cost of one or using two focus cards can change the game. Sometimes I would Have three going on at once having a high draw and getting rid of the eternal would make it where I would have opportunities to play this card here and there and eventually once I had it it was almost a for sure win. Getting this card early on will kill you though you have to be able to wait till you have a high draw and extra energy to spare. Using echo form on buffer a couple times means you don't even have to worry about defense
On one of my runs I had 3 Echo forms. Echo the Echo.
Am I missing something about Scrape? Works well with Snecko Eye. It also feels like a good way to draw a bunch of Claws. Stack your draws with Rebound and scrape them back, then play your Claws again. Plus adding stuff to your discard pile can be a good thing if you have Holograms in hand. Plus when you get to a part where all that's left in your draw pile is garbage, you Hologram for a Scrape to clear it and get a reshuffle.
Is it garbage in most decks that aren't Claw decks? Probably. But it's got a niche and surely things that have a niche don't belong in F tier.
Well "claw decks" whatever that might be, are garbage by default. Defect is at it's best having focus to scale your frost orbs for block and then dealing damage with lightning/dark orbs. Scrape is horrible in that type of seck.

@@elim9054 I think I was biased by a good run when I wrote that. Must have snecko'd some insane attack to cost 0 or something. Wouldn't count on that happening too much, I don't agree with using Snecko Eye and Scrape in general.
@@IAmebAdger I mean taking into consideration, that the average snecko eye deck is full of powerful high costs and on average each scrape gets you one zero cost card I would call that quite a good synergy.
also the defect deck is full of good zero cost cards, claw is only one of them. I can see an "all for one", scrape and kunai deck totally flying to the roof. my current run is exactly that, although I do neither have "all for one" nor scrape, but both cards would make it take off even more.

The "powers" deck is my absolute favorite deck to play in slay the spire. Get 1 or more storms, an upgrade heat sink, and a mummified hand, and you've got a party. especially it you bottle the heat sink. It's why I probably overrate white noise which under those conditions and upgrade is a 0 cost draw 2 channel 1 or more lightning, then make another card cost 0. just an overwhelming amount of value!
Getting mummified hand as defect is a near instant win
I remember on my very first ascension run I was grabbing back 7 cards with All For One. I didnt have sneko eye. FTL, Go For The Eyes, and more.
I think you can negate the effect of hyper beam if you have an artifact. So if you already picked up that card that gives you an artifact, hyper beam might have no real downside in a lot of fights.

I once did a hyperbeam deck. Iplayed Streamline with draw cards and hologram early game, then switched to hyperbeam in act 2 and looped them permanently. It was insane 😁

Thinking about a fusion sort of rework- I think costing 1 Mana but exhausting would make it a bit more playable
It's almost never relevant in practice, but my favorite thing about recursion is that channeling lightning or frost with it increments thunderstrike or blizzard respectively.
Double energy is insane in the right decks. 22+ energy on turn one is a thing that it can do.

Self-repair even when you can't block enough to make it efficient is still alright as a pseudo-block with power synergies.

I keep hitting seeds where I get Amplify in my first 3 hallway fight reward choices, when I have NO OTHER POWER CARDS. Feels like crap to take it as a dead card there.

12:13 I took Wraith form years ago when I first started, I was doing an endless run with a thousand cuts and panacea. But this was og Wraith form, the rest of the deck was stuff that affective costed 0 and drew cards or emptied my hand for top, and I eventually killed them with the power triggers or a skewer for 15+ times
How did the OG Wraith Form work?
@sallomon2357 it was 3 to play and did 3 to a random enemy when you played a skill, 5 when upgraded.

I learned so much from this and just beat my first a19. So many cards I would normally take every time that would do absolutely nothing for me.
some of these are hard to evaluate in my opinion. like chill.
you see it as only 2 blocks, but a channeled frost is worth
much more than that. also you can combo it with capacitor,yes.
but also when you dont obtain additional orb slots, you can take
more advantage of evoking them - ergo more block. since most
battles dont last too many turns anyways to stack up slots,
and fill them up sometimes.

White noise and creative AI have won me so many runs - creative AI alone is a win condition, with enough time, you'll get enough strong power cards to exponentially scale to beat the fight
I don’t care what he says I love white noise, it will at minimum just give you a power for 1 energy, at most you get 2 free energy plus the effect of the power

Right after talking about auto shield you mention how echo form everyone loves. And that’s another reason to hate Auto Shield. It becomes very weak once you play echo.
Weird. I felt like your tier list on the silent and the ironclad was pretty accurate and reasonably.
However i seem to have to compeltely disagree on a lot of ranking choices on my favourite character defect.
I’ve had a fight as the defect that lasted like 30 mins and it was just a regularly enemy btw it was my first defect run and the reason was I didn’t have enough damage to 3 shot a one of the enemy’s that had 60 health. Also another enemy healing the big tank back to full

I will forever disagree with where you placed melter. A card dog.
Boot sequence in itself is pog. There is absolutely no excuse to give it less than a tier. I would run boot sequence in a lot of decks and it’ll just make the deck better.
edit: While creative ai is super niche, it is arguably the best of the noob trap cards. It opens up a secondary win condition that does nothing but good things for the defect no matter the build. The 3 cost is steep, but the defect had tools to make it viable (unlike ironclad).
Problem in, most difficult fights (act 4 elites and The Heart) don't attack you for that much turn 1, and arguably the act 3 bosses do not either (time eater the only one that can attack for like 32). So it kinda gets in the way in those fights. It's an anchor that draws you 1 less card on turn one, basically. If you have good card draw or a bottled seek, sure take it.
And I always thought I'm stupid for not seeing any value whatsoever in Scrape.
Up to this day, I never ever picked this card and I don't know what it's good for.
I will consistently advocate for taking at least one Double Energy card and upgrading it. Instant A-Tier. Zero cost, doubles 3 base mana to 6. EZ Clap.

I just had a creative AI sneako eye run and that was so much fun, dupe endless powers and win.
My man did Chaos dirty. Chaos is cracked, easily A tier. The value, even if random, is just insane. 2 orbs of ANY type for 1 mana is value and the card will routinely evoke two things on top of that. I also find it funny that compile driver is in S tier (rightfully so) yet Chaos, which makes compile driver even more insane, is in D. My disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined.
Chaos+ is pretty solid. But Chaos- is dogwater, and Chaos+ honestly isn't even so good that I'm willing to pick a Chaos- and spend a fire on it unless I have almost no priority upgrades and am desperate for a card that fills my orb slots.

Storm + Tempest + Lightning Strike can be quite strong together.
Does reprogram that bad? The only two times I've beaten was with that card. As the dexterity and strength were increasing, I was able to block 40 of dmg with only two blocks, and my claws could deal 40. :c
It’s really niche and goes against what the Defect wants to do, but yeah if you can find a use for it then don’t pass it up
I am happy to see Sunder any time between floor 1 and the last floor of the run that I can run into slavers. That happiness doubles if I have an upgrade to spend or a beam cell, and it triples if I have pyramid or snecko eye.
I think that Hello World would be funier if it gave you only 0 mana cards or cards that exhaust. Would make some cards better like One for all for exemple. Normal version, gives common only, upgraded, gives any rarity.

he rates cards like machine learning low, because they need two turns to be great, but then he rates cards like hello world low because they may start to get bad after 5 turns. I am missing a bit unbiased reasoning in this video for some cards.

Using this ranking as a general rule of thumb has made me a better player
Buffer saved me against knob, laga, giant head, transient, slime boss, hyperbeam, execute, collector, and the heart more times than I care to count. S tier.

For me I'd say I'm most excited seeing Electro Dynamics, Echo Form and Turbo lmao. I think Turbo is such a busted card early and late
