The reason why type casting isn’t ok for Abby to do anymore is because the only time Nia is put in the center or has the main focus is when the dance is about race. She RARELY gets any other opportunity. That is why it isn’t ok because Abby sees here as her skin color to be nia’s only asset or winning quality. That is why it makes me unsettled

Exactly. She had a solo as Maya Angelou & she was the lead as Rosa Parks but when it comes to being the lead just for the sake of being lead, Nia rarely got those opportunities. Which totally sucked because I feel that Nia has made the most growth and progression as far as the other girls (and maybe Mackenzie too) and Abby just over looked her talent way too many times.

But Nia was always one of the weaker dancers on the team so she didn’t get many leads because there were other people who could do it better than her the type cast roles have to be given to her or they wouldn’t make sense if they were given to one of the white dancers I think if Nia was a better dancer she would’ve gotten way more leads and that’s how it will be in the real world when she goes for auditions.
@@Blue98332 or Abby could have just been a better instructor and did a better job at helping ALL of her dancers instead of only focusing on the 3 that she thought "would work the most".

I get what youre trying to prove. However, please dont act like this role is something to take lightly. It's an honor to portray the struggle and success of our people and we as black people should never be shamed or tired of those roles. Nia can pull off any "look im pretty" role but she shines in the powerful black culture roles because these roles hold more value than the others to me.

@@mirellachavez7963 Typecasting is when actors (or in this case, the dancers) are cast in their roles based on their look. The typecasting in this dance was the girls of color playing the roles of "the help."

Abby should have given Nia more lead parts in dances. She always stepped up to the plate when she was the lead.

Edit: A lot of people think Italians are considered Latinos. A lot of people have debated the topic as well. I personally did not know this prior to making the comment.

Honestly the beginning of how Kalani walked in was hilarious. And I love the ending, with Nia dropping her apron and them having to persuade the last maid to come with them. I love the little details.

I understand why abby puts nia is race based roles as it would be inapporperaite to put anyone else, but she is an AMAZING dancer and needs lead roles in dances that are not race based

Nia doesn’t get any other lead roles because she is a weak competition dancer compared to the rest of the girls, she didn’t give Jojo too many lead roles either. Abby runs a COMPETITION team, she needs to do whatever will win and make her studio look good. I dance competitively and you get a solo because you have the best chance at winning, not because it’s ‘fair or unfair’. She might be able to entertain but she just does not have what competitions look for In winning dancers ( lines, feet, technique)
So honestly, if I were nia, I would be happy that we were doing such dances because it is one of the few times she is better for a role than the other kids.

The ignorance and insensitivity in this episode had me livid. Jill was just too much and Abby just came across as uninformed to some extent on the subject.
I feel like Camryn is underrated she doesn’t deserve to be with Abby she deserves more.

Nia made that. She is so talented and is such a great dancer and performer and has respect and knowledge cause of her mother Holly. Well done ladies and especially Nia. She is the next Beyonce with her looks, singing, acting but she does do something Beyonce can't jumps backflips and more.she is a force not to be reckoned with.

Nia can lead an emotional piece and be AMAZING!!! Her performance in Rosa Parks gave me chills. Also.. I LOVE Nia and Kalani as a pair. They are so beautiful together
The mom's don't seem to understand that typecasting and accurate casting are two different things. This dance was about pre-civil rights era American households. To portray a white woman being oppressed by a black woman would be inappropriate and inaccurate. Jill, Ashlee, and Kira were so offended at that casting, but guess what? If Nia and Kalani (or Camron/Daviana and Kendall/Brynn) had been born at that time and raised in that era, what was portrayed on stage is likely what would have happened. Type casting is when an arbitrary, unchangeable element of a person either qualifies or excludes them from a certain role. For example, Nia playing Rosa Parks is accurate casting, Nia playing any and all ethnic roles because she is was the only non-white dancer most of the time is typecasting.
But that’s the thing...Nia was always type casted. Abby always said used The Lion King to defend herself but most of the solos Nia got were because of her race and not all of them were civil rights based
@@donttagmeinyourreply1304 That’s true, and those were the moments when you had to be offended, but for this particular scene and situation the typecasting issue really shouldn’t have been a problem. This was something out of their control because of the concept in it if itself and ultimately the producers and abby decided which dances made it onto the show. This was a situation where the moms and the girls should’ve let accurate casting so it’s job, and then stand up for themselves when actual typecasting takes place again.
Imagine if Jill said “ok abby, but what if ...JUST WHAT IF....kendall is the main maid?” Lol

My only issue with this is its title. “Good help is hard to find” is kind of messed up, obviously dreamed up by producers to be controversial.

The micro aggression from the white moms. When Holly spoke about her experience as a black woman Jill completely dismissed it. Just because it’s “illegal” doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen. Them being such close friends I expected more compassion and for her to listen not be defensive.
