The final leg of the Worst Honeymoon Ever Tour lands in Tenerife! Hosted by the local tour guides Tenerife Bike Training, Phil and Emily enjoy some great rides, foods company, and vacation--aside from the 7000-foot climb that Phil faces up the volcano. He chases the times of Chris Froome and team Ineos, who first popularized Tenerife as a pro cyclist altitude training destination.

Umm . . . I'm pretty sure that percent gradient is the same in the metric as in the English system. It's just vertical distance over horizontal distance -- doesn't matter what units you're measuring in (as long as they're the same!).

I did part of my astrophysics degree at the top of Teide for a few weeks and the air really does get thin up there. Just climbing stairs can get you out of breath. Amazing location.

One of the best things about Tenerife is how patient and courteous drivers are to cyclists. I've been there for a total of 6 weeks over the past year and I've never had a driver honk or pass me in an irritated way. That's especially notable considering the curvy roads with short sight lines for passing. I believe the drivers are as courteous as anywhere else in the world I have ridden.
Totally agree. Certain areas of Tenerife are busy with cars but they are so courteous and patient with cyclists. Drivers always give you lots of space and time. It is such a beautiful island.
Same experience. At first I was wondering why cars weren't overtaking me. Then I realised they were just waiting to make sure they could give me plenty of space. So much to love about riding there, but that is definitely up there.
Man, your referencing of Froome's times on these climbs really puts in perspective just how on fire the guy used to be pre-crash.
I had the pleasure of riding Mount Teide guided by Alberto, one of my best days on a bike!

I used to ride with Delgado brothers in Tenerife ( pavement & gravel ). The view is so spectacular. What a great memory.
I rode up Teide last week for the first time and had the thought whilst going up, ‘I’d like to see how Phil Gaimon would tackle this’ you read my mind Phil
Can vouch for Tenerife Bike Training. Great group and the paella and riding is amazing. Highly recommend booking with these guys
for comparison, it took me, a mere mortal almost 4 hours to do the same climb. And I probably suffered more!

I know you crushed the KOM on Mauna Kea, cause I tried it last month and pulled the plug at the Visitor's Center and saw your name on all the Strava segments (you finished riding to the summit, back to the visitor's center before I was able to get to the visitor's center). A couple questions: 1. did you make a video (I've looked but not found it)?; 2. why did you choose the Waikoloa Beach start and not the Hilo start? 3. (not a question) Congrats! Looks like an amazing honeymoon, thanks for bringing us all along with you two!

There's big Dylan van Baarle again. #2 to Froome which I assume both worked together on the climb. And that was back in 2019. I think he is stronger today. He definitely can win a classic this spring. You are still up there, Phil, great job.

You should consider a DJI Osmo Action 3. I record over an hour and a half 4K 60 with it.

Instead of Teide it would have been interesting to see you go after the Masca kom on Tenerife. That climb is really hard but I'd imagine the leaderboard isn't as stacked as Teide.
