- Federico Clapis is a contemporary Italian artist who has developed his career in a unique way, working “undercover” producing viral videos on social networks and accumulating millions of followers and views. In September 2015, at the height of the media popularity, he decided to move away from pure entertainment and converted his online presence into a tool for the dissemination of his previously hidden artworks.
“The Mind’s Eye” is a new series from VICE in which we chronicle the creative process of a unique creator, artist, or craftsperson as they produce an original work. The result is a hybrid between a strangely-satisfying look into the technical processes of modern art, but also a portrait of the world’s leading creators, their lives, and their inspiration.
In this first episode of “The Mind’s Eye”, we’ll follow Federico as he explores technology and the human condition through the creation of his resin sculpture, “Touch Scream”.

The idea of two individuals striving to break out of their electronically imposed prisons, as represented by the laptop screens, in order to have some genuine contact is brilliant in its simplicity. Of all the artwork I have seen lately, none seem to so perfectly capture the overall sense of malaise that this pandemic induced lock down has caused. Bravo Mr. Clapis!

Sarebbe dura fare un intervista a tutti non trovi?
Clapis ha una storia abbastanza interessante secondo me, purtroppo tutti sono legati a quello che era come se importasse qualcosa, nessuno si rende forse conto di quello che è.
Secondo me è un vero artista e da quello che leggo in giro non sembra così accettato dalla comunità, questo fa di lui un artista più apprezzabile dato che continua a fare quello che fa nonostante tutto.
Solo una mia riflessione
Il tuo commento sembra avere un tono perplesso, come per dire che clapis non ha nulla di speciale rispetto ad altri artisti...però se ci pensi nessun artista ha nulla di speciale rispetto a nessuno, sono tutti diversi, altrimenti non sono artisti!

@@artjonshahaj7291 Sicuramente impossibile. Non critico l'artista (che ha cmq gravi lacune su anatomia, infatti usa perlopiù scansioni) ma il titolo del video che è banale e sfrutta il trend del momento per fare visuals. Ciao

I love the "Virtual Scream" one but im thinking they would look even better painted.
Maybe I'm being harsh, but to me the art is a bit clichéd. It seems a bit cheesy, but is also marketable and obviously captures the way that many people are feeling.

@@unamor I would probably say that technology has been a life saver for many people in the current climate. It's been holding relationships together and keeping people working. Also, many people enjoy using tech to talk. It's a bit cringy when he's working in a high-tech, tooled out art studio, putting photographs on Instagram of all places, the toxic positivity capital of the web.

Clapis broke into the Italian community six or seven years ago, with some trashy songs such as "Masturbation" which main topic was Sasha Grey... then, after making millions of followers, all of a sudden he decided to dedicate his life to his passion. What a genius

Per essere considerato un ingegnere devo prendere la laurea, perchè invece per essere considerato un'artista basta avere qualche follower sui social? Non credete sia penalizzante per chi invece l'arte la studia e la vive attraverso l'università?
ingegnere è un titolo che certifica una formazione il cui possesso deve essere certificato per poter svolgere il lavoro che ci si attende da lui, si tratta di una formazione e nozioni che servono a svolgere "una" professione, idem per l'avvocato, il medico, il farmacista, un'insegnante eccetera. Essere un'artista non può limitarsi a un titolo che riconosce il possesso di una formazione e un complesso di nozioni, essere un'artista ha a che fare con l'individuo, con le sue capacità, la sua vita interiore, in generale è qualcosa che non può essere costretto da un singolo ciclo di formazione o all'interno di un'unica definizione, arte è un'infinità di cose allo stesso modo, non può essere costretta in una formazione.
Semplicemente quelle che metti a paragone sono cose completamente diverse tra loro e non paragonabili, altrimenti staresti dicendo che ogni grande critico d'arte è necessariamente anche un grande artista e idem per i critici di letteratura eccetera, ma sarebbe quasi come dire che io che ho studiato storia sono conseguentemente anche allo stesso tempo un grande statista o che altro.
Oltretutto ciò che i follower di instagram considerano arte non è necessariamente arte, magari è solo una roba bellina da vedere per un paio di momenti ma che a soffermarsi un attimo di più non è nient altro, cioè è priva di spessore, di profondità, di comunicazione, di arte in genere, magari si tratta solo di soprammobili più o meno banali e più o meno bellini, Cioè non sono i follower che fanno l'artista, non penso che nessuno sia veramente convinto che sia il seguito a fare un'artista, infatti ci sono "artisti" su instagram che disegnano due cagate senza niente oltre la superficie e hanno decine di migliaia di follower e ci sono veri capolavori completamente sconosciuti fatti da piccoli artisti di piccoli paesi di regioni periferiche del mondo.
@@carta8399 @iosto L'artista è un ruolo che non puo' essere attribuito ad un persona che riesce ad esprimere un concetto visivamente o che ha una particolare sensibilità. L'artista è una persona che conosce l'arte ( e conoscendola parlo di aver affrontato un percorso di studi) e che attraverso la sua formazione ha gli strumenti per sviluppare le proprie idee. Se non ci fosse una formazione dietro si limiterebbe tutto ad un semplice sfogo e l'arte non è solo sfogarsi. Ogni differenziazione dell'arte, dal classicismo all'astrattismo è il risultato di un'evoluzione delle tecniche e del pensiero. Se non c'è una conoscenza delle tecniche e dei pensieri passati, non ci sono basi per fondarne di nuovi. Pseudoartisti come clapis sono il risultato di tanta fama e poca sostanza. Per quanto riguarda il critico d'arte, ci sono molte differenze tra quest'ultimo e un'artista. Partendo dal percorso di studi che è completamente diverso. Entrambi studiano l'arte, ma uno studia le basi per poterla giudicare da un punto di vista oggettivo e l'altro invece studia le basi per poter rappresentare le proprie idee,emozioni e sensazioni. Non sono i follower che fanno l'artista ed è proprio questo che criticavo. È degradante e poco meritocratico pensare che un'artista sia chi ha una particolare predisposizione alla creatività senza il bisogno di una formazione, e con il mio post volevo cercare di introdurre questa confutazione a chi sostiene come VICE Italia che invece basti questo
@@realaround5752 Penso che tutto quello che dici sia condivisibile, quello che dico io è che mi sembra poco condivisibile che lo studio possa fare l'artista come idea di fondo, mentre invece io dico che senza dubbio la competenza possa essere necessaria ma che una laurea non faccia l'artista. Poi su cosa è o meno meritocratico si potrebbe discutere ma l'arte non è o non dovrebbe essere gestita o pensata come un'azienda, è qualcosa di più molto più libero o dovrebbe esserlo.
Per quanto riguarda il discorso degli artisti da social network è un problema poco legato all'arte in sè e piuttosto è legato alla cultura della superficialità che esiste, è sempre esistita e sempre esisterà e non miete vittime solo tra gli artisti ma dappertutto, in tutti i campi del sapere scientifico e umanistico.
Io ho fatto storia e nel mio campo non puoi immaginare con quante cazzate ci si scontra ogni giorno, dai revisionisti della storia dei totalitarismi, ai neoborbonici e tante altre fesserie che vengono diffuse da personaggi senza scrupoli e senza un minimo di formazione che però, esattamente come gli artisti da social network, sono bravi ad attirare le masse con prodotti immediatamente soddisfacenti e attraenti e mai complessi.
Ma per testimonianza diretta e anche riferita da diverse persone che conosco e che operano in altri campi, ti assicuro che lo stesso vale per il campo della medicina, e sicuramente ne sei al corrente; per il campo dell'ingegneria, pensa a tutte le cazzate sui motori a moto perpetuo; per il campo dell'archeologia, qui non sto nemmeno a farti esempi, pensa solo alle piramidi fatte dagli alieni e altre boiate.
Quella contro cui ti rivolgi è una battaglia persa, se il tuo problema pensa di risolversi con l'introduzione di riconoscimenti di carriera io penso di poterti garantire che non si risolve, la fetta di pubblico che dichiara artista uno che fa due cazzate banali e belline esisterà sempre, e lo stesso vale per ogni altro campo dell'arte o del sapere. E' la cultura della superficialità
@@carta8399 l'artista non puo' essere considerato tale se non ha una preparazione dietro. L'arte è qualcosa di libero ma non puo' essere considerata arte qualsiasi espressione di creatività. Così si cade nella superficialità del semplice sfogo. Restare zitti davanti ad un qualcosa di sbagliato è la forma più becera di vigliaccheria.

since 3d printing also includes 3d rendering which as an artist you have to be able to do, if you want your artwork to come to life. i swear a lot of people can't really comprehend the advancement in technology brought new forms of making and expressing art. Just because he doesn't use a mallet and a chisel it doesn't mean its not art. The process is an art form in itself. The philosophically chosen subject/concept is art. The idea behind it, is also art.
This guy is much more of an artist than someone like Damien Hirst, who doesn't even make his sculptures himself. Meanwhile he is one of the richest and most successful 'artists' alive today.

For RUclips users that are not Italian: this guy was having a lot of success years ago on RUclips with his funny music video. At certain point after 5 years, declared that was just a bluff. 5 years of yt career was just a scam way to collect follower, drop everything and start to make art exploiting obtained followers.
Italian RUclips user are still angry with him for this reason he lost a lot of follower and collect hate every day.

@@unamor I think I agree with you, his "art" just looks good for uninterested people who just watch for two seconds and don't want/can/know how go beyond the first look, I believe it's mildly interesting at a first quick look but if you'll try to read/live it you'll probably find that there is really nothing more to see/live/learn, just nothing beyond the surface
