Since this is the most recent "Can You Beat a Sonic Game without killing a badnik/enemy robot" video, I thought that I would post this comment here. I decided to beat the entirety of Sonic Adventure 1 without killing a badnik/enemy robot. I did my run on the digital PS3 version of the game with no cheat codes or things like that. I used the same rules as this video to classify a badnik. I will break through each story now. Big and Super Sonic's stories have no badniks. Technically, Big's story has badniks, but you have to go out of your way to kill them. These are your standard playthrough. The next easiest is Tail's story. Windy Valley and Ice Cap have no badniks and the rest of the levels are a breeze, similar to a standard playthrough. Amy's story is fine, just remember that you are doing this challenge. It can be easy to forget and accidentally kill an enemy in Amy's story. The only hard part was the room before Big's fishing room in Hot Shelter. You must do it on your first try. Otherwise, the Coconuts will kill you or you will be too slow on the valve and the coconuts kills himself. Sonic's story is really easy until you get to Red Mountain. Red Mountain blocks off the occasional shortcut and you must do some tricky spindash jumps over enemies and homing attacks are not your friend. Sky Deck has an annoying spindash jump that requires manual usage of the camera to complete. It also blocks a shortcut. However, after the jump it's easy. Lost World is surprisingly easy, but Final Egg makes up for it. In Final Egg, there are hordes of pink enemies in giant rooms that will want to die and many, many presice spindash jumps. ESPECIALLY the last spindash jump at the end instead of a light speed dash to the capsule. Knuckles' story requires EXTREME RNG to make it through the complete story but us possible. Gamna's story is surprisingly easy since the timer ticks down, which means that you will eventually die. However, his only troublesome level is Hot Shelter. This is because this level is longer than the allotted time, 3 minutes. However, since I never ran out the timer before, I learned that the game gives you an extra minute after it kills you making this level possible. There is also a really tricky coconuts monkey that blocks the area that the 2nd law grabs you which is annoying. With that, that makes the entirety of Sonic Adventure 1 possible without defeating a badnik or enemy robot. Even though I did it myself, I am still excited for the official video's release.
Great work getting through Sonic 3 & Knuckles! I love this series of challenges in the Sonic games, and enjoy your commentary through it! I wonder what other Sonic games it would work in, where there’s enough enemies to avoid to make it interesting? The Advanced games, maybe?
It's funny because Sonic is one of those few games where it's clearly a GOOD THING to beat the enemies. Like they aren't just random goons, they're enslaved animals. So it's a good thing to beat as many as possible. So basically... you're dooming the animals with this challenge.
5:04 that’s not true. There is a third boss that appears earlier in the level. We’re talking Marble Garden Act 2. That boss appears in at least 2 places throughout the level.
