I'm working for companies that trade fruits and vegetables in large scale (mostly to supermarket chains). Time is everything here. There is stuff that is only fresh for a very limited amount of time like strawberries, raspberries, avocados, apricots, asparagus, ...
There is stuff that only grows in southern Europe because of the weather condition and then is transported through Europe to the customers. Just a one day delay (or uncertainties in when the goods actually arrive) causes problems here, so the whole process is totally optimized. And yes, you might be able to produce all these fruits and vegetables locally as well in any season of the year when using green houses - but this will be more expensive to produce so it is more expensive for the customers. And even then there is the problem of labour shortage since the farmers don't find enough domestic workers.

Yes those were bad days indeed the Conservative government led by Heath was a disaster and as well as the troubles here at home with power cuts, strikes and the likes it was also the time of the world oil crisis which led to the end of the heath government. We just plodded on through the power cuts and did the best we could in the dark using candles and huddling round the coal fire to try and keep warm. People back then pulled together though and helped each other out unlike today where people seem far more selfish and seem to keep themselves to themselves.

I am hearing more and more people who used to boast about how they voted to leave are now claiming the voted to stay, they seem to think that after seven years people will forget what they used to say. If as the lady says things start to get worse because of Brexit and shortages begin to increase the age old English characteristic of finding somebody to blame, except themselves, will begin to grow. They will look for a culprit and as immigrants can't be blamed for shortages they will focus on those they believe lied to them. As right wing media fear their readership and viewers turning (it will impact their advertising revenue) they will slowly look to throw the blame from themselves and onto others and those others will be those who led the Brexit campaign.

My 18 year old and his mates have all left school and walked into jobs, whereas my 27 year old couldnt get a job for 3 years ! Since the vote my wages have tripled. I wonder if this was the real will of the people..... Perhaps the lesson "better the devil you know...." will be the most expensive one the Brits will ever have to pay to learn the hard way what the European Union is all about...... In the meantime, here in Europe it's business as usual. No shortage problems, no delivery issues and Brexit is just a sad memory which helps us appreciate more the value of our Union with all its faults and limitations. Well at least they took back control..... They shut the border to EU workers and ended up with shortages in all sectors! No lorry drivers, no deliveries; no field workers, no harvesting; no nurses, no health services....a country falling to pieces..... But Brexit is Brexit.... So enjoy it!

Doc-Nevaeh-Fish-do-ski , very superficial thinking. What you should consider is whether your rise in pay will be enough to account for the rise in cost of living that everyone's rise in pay will result in and for how long your employer can afford your rise in pay before he closes down and you end up unemployed!

You overthink it. I can now afford to get a mortgage , goods go up . I am used to be economical with my wages and family. I don’t need the urge to pollute the earth visiting a city same as your own which you have never explored, The populous are finally realising like a great Douglas Adams novel that your not required, if you want to help volunteer or learn to drive a van, truck or bus, give something back to the country instead of moaning about it. The situation might not be of your making but if life gives you lemons. ? .
Use brexit as a platform to promote local shops and local alternatives to imported goods, in my book its helping the planet 1 step at a time. Even shortage of shit fast food helps , as obese level may fall. Look on it as a opportunity.....
