He didn’t say that to be mean or uncharitable but for the salvation of their immortal souls! This was actually a most charitable statement and challenge! I will tell you this… If these blessings really work they should lead to the celebration of the sacrament of reconciliation. it’s all about this… Life is incredibly short. Stop playing games with your souls! Repent! Be obedient to the long standing teaching of the church.
Another troubling aspect of the document is lumping homosexual relationships in the same category as "irregular unions." This is bad because homosexual acts are intrinsically disordered, while in many cases an irregular union between a man and a woman can be reconciled to the Church by canonical processes and the Sacraments.
A very good point. The most obvious case is where the couple are both single and free to marry, but where a Catholic has married a non Catholic in a Registry Office without first obtaining the required Dispensation. If the non Catholic party is prepared to agree that the children of the marriage will be brought up as Catholics, a Dispensation may be granted and the couple may then be married in the Catholic Church. Of course, if the non Catholic party refuses to agree to the children being brought up as Catholics or even left free to make their own choice (for example, insists that they be brought up as Hindus or Moslems) then a Dispensation cannot be granted and the marriage would remain “irregular”. The Catholic party could, of course, ask for a Blessing - a prayer that the other party will relent and permit the children to be left free to make their own choice of faith, for example. So, the Priest may bless the irregular marriage in so far as he is able.

The irony of this, is the Holy Father who speaks so much about Christian ecumenism, is not helping authentic Christian dialogue. I have lost count of the number of evangelicals I have spoken too, who have spoken negatively about him about this, it is not helping them see the Catholic Church in a favourable light. Many of them think that this means teachings in the Catholic Church can be changed. Once again it is up to us the laity to communicate the truth of the perennial teachings of Christ's Church in a loving and Christ-centred manner.

I have sadly seen so many otherwise reliable Catholic RUclipsrs defending or even praising the document because it *technically* isn’t heretical…as though it’s going to be looked at in a technical manner by the general public, let alone those with an agenda to interpret it wrongly. Potential for scandal or loose interpretation MUST be considered.
The confusion has terrible consequences - when I was younger, looking to the Church for clear teaching was vital, as it was easy to listen to this or that voice that was implicitly approving of certain things, and keep on following a malformed conscience. Only when I found traditional Catholic teaching, built on Scripture and Tradition, did I find the direction to repent and reform my life, and I thank God for it. The Vatican seems to be disinterested in converting people and leading them towards the Kingdom of God, but accompanying (being complicit in) their disordered lifestyles and becoming a tool of the modern mindset. It's very sad, and a tragedy for the world which desperately needs clear leadership and an alternative to our pagan society. The Church really is snatching defeat from the jaws of victory...

I live in a very liberal part of the country and I haven't heard any pushback from my archbishop and I don't expect to. I can't even really talk to people in my own parish too much because I don't know where they stand on either politics or sexual issues or both. The two priests in my parish are good priests and have not discussed the subject, but focus their time and energy on preaching the Gospel and encouraging people to have a closer relationship with Jesus. I cannot bring myself to even say what Fernendez's 2nd book reflects. It tells the world where this man's head is and what he is capable of because of perverse fantasies. Of course Francis doesn't consider sins of the flesh a sin, because his right hand man is promoting it. Catholics needs to know they can trust the judgement of the Pope. Given the people he chooses to have working the closest to him, his judgement is not only flawed, it is distorted.
Thank you Ralph. What is happening was so predictable that it's hard to imagine that this confusion wasn't desired or at least accepted beforehand, which is quite disturbing. I also find difficult to accept the argument that it was most of all to rein in the Germans and Belgians etc. We see how effective *that* is. I especially don't understand the insensitivity of issuing Fiducia Supplicans the last week of Advent. It personally completely ruined my Christmas, because I have a son who is same-sex attracted&who, like many, rejoiced, interpreting this Declaration as an acceptance of homosexuality in the Church. I have to draw your attention to a problem, though: many of the African episcopal conferences listed as rejecting FS haven't rejected it at all, for instance Nigeria and Zambia. It amazes me that people either don't understand what they read anymore, or don't take the time to go directly to the sources and many just rely on some Catholic media that also have biases. Several African episcopal conferences (I don't have the time to check now for you) just wanted to make sure the Declaration was interpreted correctly, so they made a precise, short and exact summary of the Declaration, reiterating that sin and sinful unions cannot be blessed - repeating what FS says, to make it outstandingly clear, not to reject the document! It's quite obvious to anyone who reads their statements attentively & without bias. We have to be careful because the enemy of our souls is working on all sides and if we want to be truthful, we must also avoid spreading more confusion. I loved, for instance, that Card. Sarah made a statement, but it is quite evident that he wrongfully thinks that almost the entire African continent is behind him. He unknowingly wasn't well informed and that doesn't help, because it opens the door to criticism of his position... We all lose credibility when we don't check the sources and we add to the confusion 😬 Anyway, God bless you and your ministry. Thanks to our Lord for blessing the simple, poor but zealous shepherds of the Catholic Church of Africa who strongly defend our Lord's teachings, Church Traditions and their flocks from false doctrine. Amen.
In order to feel the conscience, tension is necessary. This document removes the participation of the individual's conscience. Often in relationships that are disordered or irregular, codependency and other psychological weaknesses are present. If the Church is a field hospital, it needs good doctors with integrity and faith. We need our faithful who are doctors, who are knowledgeable to be consulted and heard.
I can't help but think that this is the typical way of God: using the "weak" in the world's eyes (eg Africa's bishops) to shame the rich, sleek, and strong. I predict that Africa will lead the Church back to orthodoxy in the future. This amazing push back has been a source of fresh air.
This document that encourages the blessing of same sex couples, was coauthored by Cardinal Fernandez, who wrote at least two pornographic books. We've had ENOUGH sex scandals in our Church without the "queering" of the Vatican. More than 1,200 Cardinals and Bishops are condemning this "blessing.," Praise God for these solid shepherds.
I cannot imagine the negative impact this Declaration will have on the many individuals within the Church who have chosen chastity in the face of lifelong struggles with same-sex attraction.

I cannot bring myself to even say what Fernendez's 2nd book reflects. It tells the world where this man's head is and what he is capable of because of perverse fantasies. Of course Francis doesn't consider sins of the flesh a sin, because his right hand man is promoting it.
Catholics needs to know they can trust the judgement of the Pope. Given the people he chooses to have working the closest to him, his judgement is not only flawed, it is distorted.

Thank you Ralph. What is happening was so predictable that it's hard to imagine that this confusion wasn't desired or at least accepted beforehand, which is quite disturbing. I also find difficult to accept the argument that it was most of all to rein in the Germans and Belgians etc. We see how effective *that* is. I especially don't understand the insensitivity of issuing Fiducia Supplicans the last week of Advent. It personally completely ruined my Christmas, because I have a son who is same-sex attracted&who, like many, rejoiced, interpreting this Declaration as an acceptance of homosexuality in the Church.
I have to draw your attention to a problem, though: many of the African episcopal conferences listed as rejecting FS haven't rejected it at all, for instance Nigeria and Zambia. It amazes me that people either don't understand what they read anymore, or don't take the time to go directly to the sources and many just rely on some Catholic media that also have biases. Several African episcopal conferences (I don't have the time to check now for you) just wanted to make sure the Declaration was interpreted correctly, so they made a precise, short and exact summary of the Declaration, reiterating that sin and sinful unions cannot be blessed - repeating what FS says, to make it outstandingly clear, not to reject the document! It's quite obvious to anyone who reads their statements attentively & without bias. We have to be careful because the enemy of our souls is working on all sides and if we want to be truthful, we must also avoid spreading more confusion. I loved, for instance, that Card. Sarah made a statement, but it is quite evident that he wrongfully thinks that almost the entire African continent is behind him. He unknowingly wasn't well informed and that doesn't help, because it opens the door to criticism of his position... We all lose credibility when we don't check the sources and we add to the confusion 😬

In order to feel the conscience, tension is necessary. This document removes the participation of the individual's conscience. Often in relationships that are disordered or irregular, codependency and other psychological weaknesses are present. If the Church is a field hospital, it needs good doctors with integrity and faith. We need our faithful who are doctors, who are knowledgeable to be consulted and heard.

I can't help but think that this is the typical way of God: using the "weak" in the world's eyes (eg Africa's bishops) to shame the rich, sleek, and strong. I predict that Africa will lead the Church back to orthodoxy in the future. This amazing push back has been a source of fresh air.
This document that encourages the blessing of same sex couples, was coauthored by Cardinal Fernandez, who wrote at least two pornographic books. We've had ENOUGH sex scandals in our Church without the "queering" of the Vatican. More than 1,200 Cardinals and Bishops are condemning this "blessing.," Praise God for these solid shepherds.
I cannot imagine the negative impact this Declaration will have on the many individuals within the Church who have chosen chastity in the face of lifelong struggles with same-sex attraction.
