- In 2010 Purdue Pharma got the approval (some say they were forced, others say they decided to voluntarily) to reformulate their blockbuster pain medication oxycontin to a new "tamper-proof" pill.
I was actively using it during this time and this change affected users everywhere and altered the entire opioid epidemic.

You described this perfectly. This transition from OC to OP is precisely the reason I tried heroin for the first time in 2010.

You just literally made the case for why all drugs should be decriminalized and regulated.. 👌🏼 No adult should be able to tell another responsible adult what they can or can not consume.. The cartel’s, police, and judicial system damn sure should not be the ones profiting from others suffering or habits.. The biggest cause of death and instability in product in the streets is from no regulation when it comes to these substances.. There’s nothing in the world that can make a person not want to use expect that person making the conscious decision that they just do not want to use drugs, & The war on drugs has been so deadly & Misguided..
Working with the ACLU on many cases i can tell you the war on drugs is a war on the people. The drug war has been a failure from the beginning. The opioid war trump started has been a miserable failure , more people overdosing now on fentynal than ever did on pills. Sad
I am a chronic pain sufferer for decades. I was once on a very high dose of narcotic pain meds. And on it I was able to be a productive, responsible person. Then they got sued for overprescribing and pushing Dr's to prescribe it to people who didn't need it.
And yet, somehow, us people in pain are the ones who have to pay.
They cut my dose constantly. Every time I think "ok, my Dr said it has to be this low and ill make that work" and 2 months later now it's the pharmacy refusing to fill my scripts unless I'm on a "tapering plan".
I'm a fucking adult who had lived with pain most of my life. Why are they allowed to tell me what I can and can't take??
If I was found selling it it abusing it, fine, do what you have to do. But I've never given them a reason to question me.
I have to do random piss tests and face routine tapers and I get NO SAY in any of this.
I'm just trying to maintain whatever quality of life I can manage and these monsters decided for me that pain relief isn't "acceptable". Oh, and they also won't let me use CBD or Cannabis products to supplement all the meds they took away from me.
They aren't about compassion or empathy or giving anyone they best quality of life. They are all about covering their own asses and the rest of us can go fuck off and die off
I hate that I did that to myself. My first OC experience was like heaven. Didn't take long that I was dependent and hooked, especially after YEARS of percocet abuse. So from 1995 through 2005 I was forking out big $$$ and losing everything I owned, my job, and my family. I tried to cold turkey many many times between 2005 and 2015 and utterly failed so I switched to heroin and fentanyl. 6 years ago I checked into a counseling/MAT program...best decision EVER. Haters can say whatever but I worked the program to get off of dependency, not to exchange it. I was once on 150mg of methadone and now I am almost out of the program. Only 2 major hurdles to get past for most people and that is the 80mg level and the 20 mg level. I pray people will seek help if they just can't do it alone. If you are as bad as I was then you definitely need that help. If you can manage the withdrawal, at least seek out a counseling program like Aurora or Cornerstone. God bless!

Damn first time I've read a post from someone with a hardcore addiction. Lots of people commenting don't understand what long term use does. I haven't been using as long as you but my whole time has been from legal prescriptions and I have always had insurance so it's cheap as hell. Stopped working a long time ago and it really doesn't matter how much I take anymore. Keeps the withdrawal away but that's about it.If I did any more it's hard to tell what my insides would look like.
The way they titrate you down makes it impossible to get off, going from 80 to 20 would be impossible.
@@homelessman3483 well you have to take the initiative yourself...they care more about you being stable and off of illicit drugs than to force you to titrate faster than you want or faster than your body can adjust. Even 1 mg a week...shoot, a MONTH...is making progress. You didn't become dependent overnight and unfortunately the road to sobriety is a long and difficult road, even with help!
I HAVE never snorted, smoked, or injected anything in my life and wouldn't. But I use to take Oxycontin and I called them Chewy's because I would chew them up and it took about 45 minutes. These helped my pain so much I wish I could still get them.

The OP OC's made the pill problem in america way worse than it already was. Between the op's and everyone in the south going to Florida for the ease and free for all that state was the pill epidemic hit an all time high. I wish someone with an actual soul would step in and truly give this issue the full support that it needs

Oxy 30s and Oxycontin 80s were my passion when I was actively using. I just ate them. I tried to snort and shoot up, but I wasn't at that level in those days. The OC to OP switch didn't bother me. I'm grateful that those days are over.

We also have the generic Oxycodone Sandoz like the old OCs but they only come out in 10mg,20mg,40mg and 80mg and they have no imprints on them.👍👍

Sometimes I miss those days. The mid to late 2000s/very early 2010s. Before it got real ugly around me. Sometimes we would all hop in the car and drive down south to get scripts. We all shared our scripts and sold just enough to have cash on hand at all times. They were super cheap to so if we ran out we could always get taken care of. Once our doctor got popped it was a quick downhill spiral for everybody. I’m lucky that I made it out alive because nobody else did.
Oh yeah they love it... Took sooooo many pills back in the early 2000s. Now I've been on Suboxone for the last 16 years. It never ends.
5 years ago I was diagnosed with pancreatic divisum that causes pancreatitis, I have had at least 20 procedures and have been in the ER at least 15 times with bad pain, every time that I was in the hospital, they gave me the OC's but out of the hospital they give me 20mg OP's that SUCK and does very little for break through pain. If they know what helps with pain in the hospital, why the hell would the not give me the same outside of the hospital, the A-hole doctor told me to take Tylenol with the OP's so it helps better. I am close to going to the street, but at 61 years old, I'm afraid. Just once I want a doctor to understand and feel the pain I have, and then see how fast I get the OC's. Also I can't get a medical mary jane card while I'm on the OP's. Life sucks for people really in pain
I actually do remember whenever they were phasing out the old formulation and people were scurrying to certain pharmacies and even the original formulation were sold to and or distributed to generic manufacturers such as Actavis and TEVA because of legal proceedings.

I'm not promoting it and you're right it def clogged my nose up, but I still snorted it right on up, DEF still got loady-woady and just couldn't breathe or would use afrin to clear it up 😅 when you crushed it you were able to pull the coating right off. It stayed pretty intact lol. The powder would be in the middle and the coating would be on the outside but it didn't deter me from doing them by no means. Losing my life, my baby, my job, my family, my boyfriend, etc. did though. Thank goodness for recovery!🎉

The opana 40s were something else. The og yellow octagons. The apex of pills, honestly. One of those was easily a better high than an OC 80. Or like... multiple lol. Glad that period of my life is behind me

You know I've talked about this change before and if the op's were introduced instead of the OC's I don't think the problem would of been near as bad!!! Those OC's were insane!!! Started off shaving a line off of my 40 or 80 and could last all day and before you know it crushing and snorting whole pills at once!!! Thanks Lord for delivering me from that lifestyle!!!

We would wash the coating off with a (barely!) damp paper towel, let dry thoroughly, then hold with needle nose pliers inside a new ziplock sandwich bag and grind it into a powder with a dremel and a sanding barrel. Snort deep, though, that gel matrix was no joke, for sure. My fav was Opanas, 20mg (oxymorphone), those baby blues would make my work day sail by!

My doctor name was Ronald Celeste in Cleveland Ohio. I was getting 60 80 mg Oxys and 60 30 mg Percocet. My mom had 90 80 mg Oxys, we were making $3,500 with a middleman. It wasn't worth it just to develop an addiction. Days I wish I didn't live in my own skin, going to the toilet just for a water to come out the back end. I wish I never touched or know anything about those pills. Those withdrawals some people couldn't comprehend how that feels.
I don't know how true it was but I had heard that the Afghanistan military occupation also had a side business of troops surrounding and protecting poppy fields and that the cultivation increased multiple times under our military/governments oversight. I imagine they'll probably start or already have started their own here somewhere in the United States. Drugs are big business and a huge money maker. Make the population miserable and give them an "escape"... It could be? I really hate to think our government capable of such a thing.

I think most pharma grade poppy grown for opioid manufacturing comes from new Zealand. Afghanistan mainly supplies Europe and Russia with heroin. Mexico and Colombia handle all of North America, and Myanmar supplies the rest of Asia (all for the black market)
Pharma companies have their own little fields. And it doesn't take very much thebaine to produce a bottle of 80's.

When they changed the formula for Opana, people freaked out. They'd actually call the pharmacy to see if they still had the old pills. I knew a guy who got those. That was it for him. He eventually died.
When I broke my back in 2008 they were giving me the oc 40s while I was in the hospital for 5 months

Does it make a difference in terms of tapering if a person switches from inhaling it and starts to just drink it? Will it make WD come on faster or will it avoid the WD and just not get them the buzzz they are looking for. I’m trying to understand to be able to help give someone that needs to quit and is scared of by fear of WD. They say they are tapering b4 jumping off 😬 sigh…
Some people will go from shooting "down" to swallowing as a first step down. Once your body gets used to that then you go "down" again and start to taper their dose. You're still getting the drug but less bioavailability so your tolerance goes down. You still get withdrawal but perhaps not as intense.

I have been taking oxycontin OC 40 for 5years, I started on the 5 mg and slowly worked my way up to the 40mg I also get the 10mg instant release capsules too, I get a box of each every month 😜. I have snorted them both but even though i got the 40 oc's they dont seem to work as good as the capsules also I rub the coating off the tablets with a stanley knife blade, it only takes about a minute. Do they put anything in else in the tablets like fillers etc? the drips are quite yucky on par with the blow! but snorting the tablets seem smoother than the capsules (i did get up to 60mg but ended up in hospital with total compaction 😩)

Most of Europe got old formula Italy,Spain,France,Germany ecc.
And in France and Germany they have the 120mg oc pill (round purple pill)
I cant tell you how easy it is to get scripts in any other place othar than Italy and Spain wich both are very easy to get if you know how to deal with docs.

Its funny because in Canada once the Neo's were in full distribution, the price went down substantially but for the odd time that the "WR's" came around (which was the generic of the old Oxycontin formulation), the price was astronomical. The old formulation is still available and other companies are producing it now that the patent has run out for Purdue, but its only given to those without insurance etc., due to the high cost of the new pills, or if there is some reaction to them The only reason Purdue got in trouble was because they hid the true abuse potential of the drug.

I can get the original formulation Oxys right now from outside the U.S. and they are the old formulation, and crush-able. The reformulation was not popular anywhere

I showed my friend who was a hard core addict and he would literally drive all over the country stealing packages. I was an addict who found a pill mill doc. I was getting prescribed 140mg of oxy 3 times daily. So 90 tabs of 80mg and 90 tabs of 60mg each month. I had no idea you could crush and snort them. Sometimes I think back and get frustrated with all the money I missed out on. I could have made literally thousands a month.
Imagine you stashed them all until today. You can get $300 an OC 80 in Canada if they are real lol.
What ? In germany i pay 600 € for 60 Original Mundipharma ( Purdue) OC 80's in Green . Original from germany . No fent nothing . And people here freak out about the prices . People here sell litterly theyr things to get 10 80's and sell theyr phones tvs everything for that . But yeah the only bad thing is that i have to drive 2 hours to get them and 2 hours to return . But my guy since 2 years never ran out . But yeah im highly addicted . Yesterday in the evning i took my last 80 . And today i wanted to drive to get 20 new oned and i had to wait till 8 o clock to meet there . I litterly sweated my whole bed full i felt like shit didnt answer my girlfriend couldnt even talk to anyone . I sit in my car at 6 and drove 2 hours like a zombie . And when i came there the guy let me wait 20 minuts it felt like 2 hours because my stomach was hurting so bad but then he came i took the pill and everything was gone and forgotten . I think i cant stop using that shit man . Its just to availebly here because in germany very few people found out about oxys and abuse them . Here evry second guy smoke weed . 70 % drink alkohol almost daily . Then typical the harder ones take speed to go work germany is a working country . Then theyr tje party ravers who take speed exstasy and ketamin . Coke for the migrants and rich . And heroin for the fucked up but oxy is very rare . Most people here take opiat named tilidin . Its not even availably in the us . Its weaker then oxy but it give you a really nice feeling you feel lile you have no problems at all . Oxys is even colder high . If you abuse oxy heavily you never will get the same high . I cant get high from them aymore just feel normam

Now I must say he's actually incorrect about this coating on the outside because it was actually a polyethylene glycol or oxide type of matrix a (plastic polymer/binding agent) that was evenly consistent throughout the entire medication and had a specific rate that I would dissolve at over a specific amount of time. I actually think it was polyethylene glycol 40, PEG or PEO, I forget exactly which one but even that was truly not tamper-proof as we all know, it simply just made it a little bit more difficult to abuse.
It just sent people to real drugs and 30s. But 30s became harder and harder to get. Big 224's, a215, m30, V30, etc. the 15s were pale green.

@@Soberdogs don't the new ones have op on the back instead of oc. The ones I saw are made by sandoz and have oc on them. They aren't available in the usa on prescription anymore. But in other countries they still make the old formula. I'm sure about that I spoke to a dispenser and he said they are the old ones.

My older brother started with Percocet 10’s then got into the OC Oxys very fast. I remember cause I had friends who were hooked on OCs and my brother plus all his friends, thank God I decided to do MMA then Boxing during this period so if I ever fought I got urine tested which kept me away from drugs but since we lived very close to Philly when the reformulation happened if you weren’t a rich kid which most people I knew weren’t you just went right to using Dope cause it was 10$ for a bag and a fraction to get high is what my brother,,his friends and my friends told me. I could never understand paying 50$ for a pill anyway.

Many people have passed away I know many indirect or direct that have passed from my younger brothers age to my older brother’s. Many other towns,counties and neighborhoods surrounding and in Philly its even worse. The worst are the fake fentanyl laced pills causing many ODs especially with fake Xanax as people take it who don’t use opioids.

That’s around when all the Doctors started writing prescriptions for Dilaudid 8’s cuz nobody could get their oxys filled cuz like I said. Pharmacies wouldn’t carry them on purpose. It was crazy.
I would get 240 30mg Oxycodone (little blues) and 180 8mg Dilaudid per month and would still usually run out a few days before I could fill my script... Absolutely insane

Tried so many different things to get clean nothing ever worked but I’ve been set free by the Son of God Jesus Christ the Almighty. Amen to that!!! I am a chronic pain patient and thank God I have been with my pain doctors practice for 10 years and have not had to deal with all the hurdles that others do. At pharmacies you get eyeballed and rediculed for the medicine your doctor prescribed for u and your medical condition. It's crazy. Everytime I go to the pharmacy after an appointment to fill my script if it's not one of the pharmacists that is familiar with me then here comes the third degree! Your ID, we need to call your doctor to verify your script. Mind you I have been getting the same medications for years and they are in the PMD computer system for verification. It's crazy legit patients go through the BS because people lie to get medication for another source of illegal income. IT'S NOT FAIR.

God willing we will get a doctor who is good soon. We are moving and trying to pack and clean and feel well enough to get ourt of bed is hard. I hate this but they tried many things and the medicine and a healthy lifestyle is the only thing that can help. I would not have graduated film school if I had been struggling like now. It's hard. For those not using for physical pain I'm starting to think the stuff has some kind of mood receptors. If the pharma co could figure that part out they'd have another way to make billions. It seems to help those with depression , has a calming effect for a lot of people. There's more to it than just physical pain. I'm with you though , the abuse makes it very hard for those in true physical pain to get help. It seems to be used for mental help & the makers aren't catching that. I don't think it's just a high folks are after it's mood altering as well. Works better than a lot of things given for depression. Makers need to research that.
I was on the oc 40 in 2008 when I broke my back plus took 10mg percocet didn't get addicted but now I'm on 10mg percocet and 13.5mg xtampza er which is oxycodone and 13.5mg is equivalent to 15mg oxy thankfully the two work great for my pain where I don't need more and more and I watch your videos and you my man are helping lots of people with your story I appreciate you for doing this thank you

I recently got switched to xtampza. It's allot more effective if taken with food but I'm a cancer patient and don't eat much. I only eat at night so that's the only time it works for me. What's your experience on it. Takes a long time to work too
@@davegordon6943 I do pretty good on it I take it with or without food and to be honest it seems to work for me just like I took it with food I do hate the fact that it takes lon to start working like 2hrs for me but I'll take it over not having anything for my chronic pain because when it does kick in I'm lucky that I actually get 10 or even 12hrs relief and for me at least I think it works just as good as oxycontin did for me
Alot of people say I didn't get addicted , but that feeling you get when you're out and the meds are leaving your body ? That's dependency and dependancy's a bitch. Feel like death warmed over , and don't feel well enough to do anything ! Dependancy drives addiction , they go hand in hand... I knew people from UK buying over the counter codeine - co-codamal. Low level codeine pain reliever. Swore they weren't addicted , weren't druggies. But experienced dependancy and withdrawal - dopesick... And even had to go to multiple chemists to get the amounts they needed and to keep chemist from noticing their pattern...
Originally OC never made a 60mg. The white ones were OC10, pink OC20, yellow/orange OC40, Teal/blue/green OC80. They even made a OC160 dark Blue that wasn’t round. They stopped making the OC 160s about 2001.

Never came out the same. A better tool is a pedi paws dog nail file. Still not worth the hassle. Save them for withdrawal and just eat them with some pepto. Stomach acid kills 10% and pepto helps

Truth is, these drugs rewire the brain so badly that an addict truly can feel phantom pain for quite a while when sick. Nothing like chronic, I'd imagine (as a chronic pain sufferer and addict myself) but it's so, so briefly about the "honeymoon" before it becomes literally life or death in the mind AND body of an addict. Anyway, I understand your point and of course recreational abuse has negatively impacted our ability to be treated properly in pain clinics, but regarding that one statement: it's not like trading places with an addict would be a walk in the park in any way, shape or form.
