    The Hutts are like the mob, they're so powerful and intertwined with everything, the government would have more issues if they did touch them.

    Despite the de facto non agression pact between the Empire and the Hutts, I imagine that many Imperials wanted to crush the Hutts as their criminal activities throughout the galaxy increased the amount of corruption in the Empire and corruption was something that many Imperials sought to eliminate as it's what crippled the Old Republic.
    Even if many Imperials were crooked, I can't imagine that ALL Imperials were happy to leave the slimy Hutts be no matter what Han Solo and other Rebels thought.

    The Empire was short-sighted and stupid. There were billions of people in the Hutt Empire that hated the Hutts beyond anything else. The Empire would have taken a long time to rebuild it all, yes, but the conflict itself would be over swiftly. The Empire had the capacity to invade every single Hutt-controlled planet, station, asteroid and any other location all at once, crushing the Hutts out of existence and ending the slavery they relied on for their wealth. This would end a regime that had been in power for thousands of years and give absolutely everyone under the Hutt''s fat, armored slug-tails a new-found reason to support the Empire. With imperial engineers helping to rebuild any damage done while bringing in new and fair laws and institutions for everyone they would gain a massive empire-wide publicity-boost and demonstrate that they were more than just talk, more than jsut a regime that SPOKE of freedom, peace and security for all.
    They could even justify enslaving the Hutts themselves and adding them to the races of 'undesirables' that they could put to use, such as the Wookies.
    Ofc, all this requires the Empire to not be fantastically dumb and short-sighted as a built-in flaw in order for them to be the bad guys in a fictional setting, but given the same setting under other writers it would be easy to depict this happening, and it's positive results for all would fit into the Empire's STATED MO perfectly.

    • @allewis4008
      @allewis4008 6 лет назад +12

      The Empire was trying to avoid a war on two fronts which would have crippled the Imperial Navy.

    • @Terenin
      @Terenin 6 лет назад +14

      No, it would not. You are underestimating the sheer scale of the Star Wars universe. The Imperial military's peak happened in about a decade, at that point they had over 25K Imperial Star Destroyers, a dozen Executor-class Super Star Destroyers, dozens of other SSD's like the Bellator-class, several hundreds of thousands of medium-sized vessels like the Victory-class Star Destroyers, and several million smaller vessels like the Strike Cruisers, Lancer Frigates, Aquintence patrol Frigates, Raider Corvettes, support Carriers and so on. The majority of these smaller vessels were patrolling in the Empire's local systems, of witch they had well over a million and a half at their peak, and they already had a presence in the hutt-controlled systems, because officially the Empire ruled THE GALAXY. They had billions of navy crew and billions more troopers and vehicle crews, recruited from TRILLIONS of citizens. They had all the manpower they would ever need.
      They also knew where the Hutt's themselves lived, they knew where Jabba was, they knew where the other top rankers, mid-level leaders, and low-end enforcers were, and they knew that the ships that were directly under Hutt control numbered in less than a few hundred thousand, due to Hutt space being considerably smaller and the Hutts not needing so many ships just to keep order and enforce their will, moving their goons around. Hutt ships were not top-rate military-grade vessels either, the majority were militarized civilian vessels, their own home-grown military-grade vessels were relatively few.
      The Empire could have easily struck all the central Hutt worlds at the same time, putting down all top level and mid-tier leaders on the very first day, indeed inside the first few hours. By the end of the first week they would have stormed and annexed all centers of Hutt power and would be cleaning up the outskirts and mopping up any hutt-aligned idiots to foolish to surrender, something the vast majority would do, as they were hired goons and thugs for a criminal syndicate, not troopers in a civilization run on loyalty. Even if they were, the Empire had a vastly superior ground army, near instant space superiority due to having the biggest and most powerful fleet in the galaxy, and knowing all the Hutt locations from the start. Who would fight for Jabba, to safeguard his assets and contain his slaves, when Jabba himself has been captured by the Empire and dropped into the Sarlacc-pit from his own commandeered barge as an example to his minions? Would there be even 100 thugs willing to carry on after they see that their pay-master has been toppled? The destruction of the Hutts would take less than a month, let alone half a year.
      You need to consider the parties involved here. The Empire was ruthless and had no problem making horrible examples of anyone that opposed them, while the hutts were nearly universally hated by everyone that did not directly work for them, and once the leaders themselves are dead and the people are rejoicing and the thugs are hopelessly unable to win the war, it's over.
      The Hutts existed because the Empire allowed them to continue their existence. Eradicating them would be a short formality, and the Hutts themselves knew this. The Empire could have erased them on moral grounds and won billions of grateful new subjects in the process and simply installed Imperial groups to run the whole Hutt Cartel's assets for the Empire. It would have been a very short transition period.
      And yes, they could have done all this with relatively few of their own military assets and hunted the Rebels at the same time. After all, it was local security that had to deal with any rebel activity in their local areas when they struck, and it was Vader's Death Squadron that actively hunted them. The Empire had other large squadrons of warships that could have dealt with the Hutts.
      Erasing the Hutts would have gained them much and lost them little. The only hindrance was writing allowing this 'designated evil' empire to let a ruthless syndicate of criminals exist in their civilization, for extra bad-guy points.

      @nickdouglas736 5 лет назад +6

      Why the hell should they waste ressources and personell on fighting the Hutts if the perks of leaving them are that profitable. And you overestimate the people, most of them were slaves anyway, if the empire kept them as slaves they'd then again have to spend billions on logistics just to keep everything going and being freed they'd quickly realise that they changed one regime for another and flock to the rebellion. And the Empire would loose, as stated billions of credits of taxes for good.
      So NO, they weren't short sighted and stupid, they knew how to pick their battles because they knew a rebellion was forming and defeating the Hutts for good would have cost too much compared to the political and financial gains.

    Because they had a lot of power and connections that Empire could use and actually used. If it's friendly and full of potential, no point dismantling it, especially on the edge of the Galaxy, where the Empire's influence and grasp were rather weak.

    Makes sense since we see time and time again in Sw that republic credits dont work in the outer rim. Plus i would like to know what currency they used in the outer regions. And before i saw this video i always wondered why Vader let the hutts live since he hated them for enslaving him and his mother as a boy. But if i were Vader i wouldve gone back to Tatooine and Completely destroying the planet. Think about it, it would've made him more powerful. All that hate and resentment feeding his Dark side. He could've just Forced Jabba to move to a different Palace and then go on to glass the System via Orbital bombardment.

    It's also better to have organized crime on your side rather then against you. They might then go on to support the Rebellion and the rebels would probably have access to anything the Huts had for sale on the black market.
