Another great video. I had the honour of meeting Robert Sherman in London where he resided for many years. The stories I was regaled with by his sons of the Disney days were absolutely wonderful. RIP Robert.
Veronica Rodriguez I met him once in 2008 when he was DJing at Mansion in Miami - I sat next to Scott Storch and some of my girlfriends- we had the opportunity to take a photo of all of us by AM but we didn’t. I have always regretted that we didn’t. It would have been an amazing memory of an amazing night and time in life. Everything seemed so much simpler back then. He made our night unforgettable. May be Rest in Eternal Peace
Once again great tour. Thanks Sherwood for Gilligan's island. Great childhood memories of running home from school so my best friend and I could watch it.
You did a fabulous job! Thank you! I am the designated caretaker of some family members' graves, and nothing really creeps me out. I am only sad to see infants' and small children's graves. You ask, "What did you learn today with this tour?". I learned that many of my favorite stars, like Shelley Winters, were Jewish. Somehow I had never thought about a "star's" religion before, so that was cool. Keep producing! You have a great voice, excellent narrative passages, and should have your own TV Show!! Best wishes, Roxie Taylor
Agreed.. his views should be triple what they are in my opinion and his subscriptions should be a lot more as well..idk how more people don't watch and enjoy these videos..
I have to pay my respects to Robert B.Sherman because it's a small world Is me favorite ride at Disneyland... so thank you for that song!! "It's a small world after all" :)
It's about time. I was concerned that Arthur Dark had been abducted by zombies. Seriously, thank you for including Paul Pink. I have eaten at Pink's and met several celebrities there. Once again, Arthur Dark succeeds in producing a well-balanced, informative video. And an early one year anniversary congratulations to Hollywood Graveyard. On November 16, 2016, Hollywood Graveyard started on RUclips. Thank you, Arthur, for all of your fantastic work which has enriched my life and the lives of many others.
Psych Corp Agreed! I live walking distance to 2 of the cemeteries featured, including this one, and this topic fascinates me. We grew up on these legends, and to know their final resting place is so interesting..
Thanks for the production of these great videos/documentaries. Your details are well done on each of the persons where you focus. I grew up in the 1950's and remember so many of these great performers.
Two Disney Legends! Friz Freleng and Robert Sherman. Friz was a personal buddy of Walt's and worked for him until Universal stole the rights to Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, when he went to work for Universal and later WB! And of course, who couldn't hum along to a Sherman Bros song?
Vic Morrow made his movie debut in the classic "Blackboard Jungle" (1955) playing Artie West. Another notable role was in Elvis Presley's "King Creole" (1958).
The Poseidon Adventure had the greatest actors in Hollywood. Shelly Winters had some incredibly memorable scenes. I can still picture her swimming underwater and dying when she reached the other side. She said when she was young she was a great swimmer. Her acting chops were first rate. She did a great job in Lolita. When they showed the poster with the sunglasses, I realized again what a genius Stanley Kubrick was. I bet he had something to do with those sunglasses!
Great as always! I'm always amazed at the plethora or stars out there. Sorrell Booke was mostly known for his role as Boss Hogg on Dukes of Hazard but he had been on many other shows including MASH that you featured. He was a general on that show which this ties into something else he did. He was a highly intelligent man. He had degrees from Yale and Columbia. He mastered 5 languages which allowed him to be commissioned as a lieutenant during the Korean War. He was able to make good use of his languages in Counter Intelligence.
He also narrated the TIME-LIFE Records set called "To The Moon," a six-record set celebrating the history of America's space program up to Apollo 11. On it, he sounds nothing like his character of Boss Hogg...
Each tour is really a piece of history. Thank you for doing all the legwork for us Arthur Dark! When I see a new episode posted I watch it right away~ Thumbs up all the way!!! 😉
Joan E: You are spot on. Arthur Dark's work not only informs and educates, but preserves history. His videos go far beyond mere entertainment. I view his videos daily and always learn something new from each viewing. Indeed, thumbs up all the way and my most sincere thanks for bringing such quality to the world.
Thank you for including the actor Vic Morrow. He was not only what we fans of the tv series “Combat” call “the great Vic Morrow” he was also a genius behind the camera, a talent largely untapped by the film industry of his time. The few episodes he directed in the Combat series were deeply moving. His was a life cut short so stupidly by a careless film production company, thus he was never known as a film director.
Mr. Dark, Thank you so very much for entertaining us with your wonderful videos . It is so refreshing that these are videos that I can watch as can my Son's and Grandkids respectively. No politics, smearing, or inappropriate language or scenes to warn others about. I know you have way too much time to read all of the comments that are left for you. But I hope that one day if you are feeling down in the dumps or things aren't going right or if you even wonder why you bother doing this. Mr. Dark ..You Do Make a Difference, Thank you and may God bless you for your work in giving us some sunshine on our dreary days .
Greta Thanks...I mean every word of it. Makes me feel young again , I am only 52 but I still remember watching a lot of these Guys and Gals on TV and the big screen at some of the theaters. They don't make em like they used to.
Part of the reason that "Chinatown" is my favorite film, is because of Jerry Goldsmith's haunting score. I knew there would be something special about it from the first notes of that trumpet solo at the opening credits. While I can think of other films and the scores that went with them, I can't think of one that captured the mood and time period (1930's) the way this one did! The Art Deco period set to music! Others may disagree, but for me this was his finest work. He nailed it! Rest in Peace, Jerry!
I'm also a fan of Film Noir music. For me, the best is John Barry's theme for Body Heat. This is the one with the clearest theme, but listen to other recordings, too. Starts at 25 seconds in. ruclips.net/video/Hn1sKPeT4to/видео.html
As a follow up, I grew up in Southern California, and there were many times traveling that part of the 405 freeway. You couldn't help but notice the columns on the hillside. For the longest time, I didn't know what it was until an uncle of mine told me that it was Jolson's tomb! After seeing this video, on my next visit to L.A., I will make it a point to visit there and pay my respects. I also need to visit Forest Lawn Glendale, to pay respects to a great film animator and painter, Oskar Fischinger! From what I understand, he is buried in the same area as Walt Disney. Oskar had worked on "Fantasia", but left Disney before its completion. It is rumored that his work was used for the effect of the Blue Fairy's wand in "Pinocchio"!
Trips me out to watch this and part 1 as well as the vids you've done on the other cemetery called Holy Cross..I live a short walk from both cemeteries, as they are close to one another...learning of the many Hollywood celebrities of the Golden Age era buried while I am literally a stone's throw from their final resting place is fascinating and surreal to me..thanks, Arthur, another beautifully produced video about the legends we grew up watching and listening to..hats off..
I've seen this hillside from the 405 when going to the airport. These videos are why we have cemeteries; so we can sense the Earthly remainder while memorializing the people.
Like many I am a big fan of M*A*S*H and the respected name Larry Gelbart has flashed in front of my eyes hundreds of times.... but ... I had no idea that the man co-wrote my all-time favorite musical comedy "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum" until just now while watching this. So thank-you very much for educating me and thank-you Larry for all the wonderful laughter you brought me and so many others.
Good work! I have toured this cemetery several times [Hollywood Forever also contains some of my favorites like composer Erich Wolfgang Korngold] Al Jolson named two of his sons after himself. One was called Al and the other Asa, which was Jolson's original Biblical name [of a king of Judah].
You have missed a very important Grave of Neil Bogart - Port of the Patriarchs, private room, basement of mausoleum. It just inside the basement door at the left of the GM when standing at the front. Neil started Casablanca Records in the 70’s discovering Kiss and many Disco artist- ie Donna Summer Village People. Before that he worked for Buddha Records - single handedly creating Bubble Gum music- ie The Archie’s- after he sold Casablanca he discovered Joan Jett but died soon after from cancer.
That is an absolutely beautiful cemetery. Very well maintained. It is strange on this and other videos of this series, that many who were large in life are now known by simple name plates on a wall or in the ground.
Wow I went to New Zealand 3 weeks and saw Mickey Cohen black cadillac at the car museum. Bullet holes and all. Thank you for taking me again on a stroll with you.
I didn’t know about Nell being Jewish but on a visit to the Jewish museum in south beach a few years ago they had a show called something like “what makes someone Jewish”. Great show. It included Elvis and Frida Khalo who identified as being Jewish since they had direct Jewish ancestry.
I enjoyed both of your Hillside videos. What was interesting to me was those stars who are interred here that I did not realize were Jewish. It was just another bit of information about people seen on screen and only know them through their work. I do appreciate you noting Friz Freleng whose animation work will live on forever to new generations and beyond. Thanks, Arthur.
Thanks for creating a great upload. I'd like to point out that Jerry Goldsmiths masterpiece was Alien, still creepy as hell and was used in Alien Covenant. Once again great tour. Thanks Sherwood for Gilligan's island. Great childhood memories of running home from school so my best friend and I could watch it.
Shelley Winters was also VERY well known for her role as Nana Mary on the sitcom, Roseanne.
Nana was hands down the best character on that show.
Loved that character!!!
I never knew that!!
You forget she was on Batman 🦇as Ma Parker and Uncle Miltie was also on there.... Twice
And the voice of “Crystal” in Frosty’s Winter Wonderland and Rudolph and Frosty’s Christmas in July.
Oh, Robert Sherman...I cried. 1/2 of a such a beloved treasure. Arsenic and Old Lace is one of my favorites! Thank you for the tour!
