I did manage to get in yesterday at 7:30am and what made me laugh was the amount of players auto running in a corner so they didn't get kicked from the game , it then also pissed me off because that can be one reason for long queues .
Auto running in the corner actually works in an MMO in 2021 to keep you logged in That? That stopped working in Asherons Call pretty early on. Pretty pathetic, given it shouldn't be too difficult to discern between an active player vs an auto runner.
If that moderating is real, im not even gonna bother. We had a long convo in my former guild chat about popping in, but I guess I'm already out. I trust Mack's opinion.
The moderation is mainly on people being asshats. Even if it's for a good reason. If your guild is a decent guild they would already have self chat moderation. Like many good guilds in the history of gaming most of the great guilds I was in pretty much established it's own rules on trash talking in chat. You just didn't do it, you didn't talk in global much you asked you guild members for help and you let your pvp speak for your guild.
I haven't seen any of this myself, but then I dont type in global or get pissy about someone stealing a wolf skin under my nose when there are loads more around. It happens and it's a bit irritating but it's the internet and that's that.
@@RatedMf0rmanly you do understand when people picked the servers they made their characters on and played for hours and hours they weren’t necessarily high population servers, right? You also understand Amazon Games has limited the population active at a time to a very low number insuring that queueing would be horrific, right? Or do you completely have no clue as your comment sure seems to point to? I’m betting the latter. I waited almost a full day after launch and then still picked a “low” population server. Does not matter. The queues are idiotic. I’ve heard in Europe they are 20k+ at times. Go back to the queue and be a happy little lemming.
Thank you Mac, been asking the guys playing it and 3 days in a row they have been grumpy and stated nothings changed, same thing as yesterday... i tried asking what's fun about the game... "its a new world, just grinding" i cant help but face palm.
100% agree with you Mack. Having 6 skills is fine as long as those 6 skills develop in to stronger versions like in Elder Scrolls Online. Apparently it currently is the most played game on Steam! It's a good game but it's not that good that it makes you want to sink every spare minute you have in to it. MMOs and MMO communities have completely changed.. Sad story really. Dungeon runs in an MMO are a 100m sprint race.. Gone are the days where you used to take your time , buff each other and cautiously step through with the party leader... Join a group now and if you stop to look at something you get left behind.. They don't even stop to read the quest. Just accept it and sprint on..
I’m enjoying it for the exact reason you mentioned at the end. To just chill with friends and run around and not think too much. I don’t have chat open. And I’m not a fan of 20 abilities on cool down with Wikipedia open to find the optimum sequence of skills.
Similar thoughts here. I find it really enjoyable and like the simplicity of not having 40 spells for a class on a bar to manage. Also combat being active versus games like wow which are more passive in nature, right click and you auto-shoot a target etc.
Fantastic idea. That's what I thought someone would do in that situation. Found it strange that it's okay to steal but it's not okay to punish a thief for stealing. But I guess that colerates with the chat bans and the general attitude of Amazon.
That would be a great game mechanic, but people will find a way to abuse it. IMO the best way to handle the problem is making mobs linked to the first person that does damage to them, just like in wow. I mean it's literally right there, they just had to copy it.
Man, I miss those Alterac Valley battles that never ended. You could go to sleep. wake up the next morning, log into WoW, and get back into the very same Alterac Valley BG that you were in the night before. LoL.

For some reason, at some point, someone decided that 99% of all new MMOs should be action combat, and thats the issue. They are all alike, few skills, and endgame content like dungeons and such are always utter trash. "we wont do the hoply trinity of MMOs, healer tanks and DPS, becouse thats boring, here is about 4 diffrent skill, now you can use them forever, and thats fun". I agree wholeheartedly with this review, i managed about 6 or 6 hours before i got sick of running to and fro the same spots to do the same quests, becouse trhe combat is mindmumbingly boring, and the quests are probably less interntsing that wow in vanilla.
I appreciate the honest review. I'm going to pass on this one but I will say don't knock a game because it doesn't have a WoW-style rotation for combat. I think action combat in MMO's has tremendous potential but still hasn't been implemented well. I don't want a 12-button rotation with a bunch of CD "oh shit" buttons personally. I personally like the idea of ESO combat, however it's so floaty, and the animations of the spells is boring that I can't play it. Either way, this review was enjoyable to watch due to your honesty, and it saved me some money, thanks!
Naraka: Bladepoint has the best multiplayer action combat of any game I have ever played. That tech, if possible to be applied to an MMO would become the next #1 MMO IMO.
Absolutely agree with everything you said, from the unimaginative mob type recycling to the sad state of mods/GMs. The world looks great, but it's devoid of meaningful content. If they'd add world events, that could go a long way to making levelling more interesting.
Even Runescape had a system that made it so that you can't loot stuff until the other person leaves it for long enough. Player who killed the mob sees the loot first.
Very on the point remark about kids raised by the internet. Hit the nail on the head there. As somebody who grew up without the internet I see this all the time.
Love the game. We won a territory yesterday and so far got my pvp build that's an absolute terror. The sense of size and the variety of biomes is great. And it's always tense to roam around and go prone to sneak attack the unwary. Haven't felt this level of bloodlust since wilderness in runescape.
Feels like one of those games that came out 15-10 years too late. Combat looks stagnant and outdated. It's 2021 and loot stealing is still a thing? They should look at how PSO2 solved that issue ....almost 10 years ago.
@@sierrahotel4632 Albiom online has different map zones with different pvp levels. Early zones don't allow you to fight. More dangerous later zones have PVP on but you don't lose loot and person gets bad karma for PVP (just like lineage 2) if he is constantly just slaughtering people, so everyone can kill him without penalty. And there are dark pvp zones where people lose their loot and such. Those areas have greater rewards, clan battles, etc. I found the combat system lackluster with too little abilities in albion online to keep me interested, but their free economy system that has few rules and this pvp zoning system really is fantastic. I tried the game in 2021 and it was really fun trying to be a trader, running from one city to another over a dangerous pvp zone. And that old game still has cities with so many players your screen gets flogged with them lol. It seems it handles the net code pretty well as well. They have a 100 player limit I think in one instance or something. So these things are still doable but with some limitations, rules and caviats.
@@sierrahotel4632 Well, Albion online while fighting is a skill based game, abilities are mostly skillshots, just like in league of legends (just dumbed down a bit). You can miss your skill shot, you can dodge, you can stun the enemy just at the right time. Works perfectly fine most of the time if your ping is low (like mine). So I have to disagree with this mentality "it's completely impossible". Unless we are talking something like 100vs100, then maybe yes, I don't know. I also play mordhau (a medieval first person fighting game) that supports 100 player servers and that game while playing on low ping also works perfectly fine most of the time.
Being overhyped is the problem. For me new world serves runescape 2 place. Simplistic quests, simplistic combat and lots to grind, fantastic visuals and audio. I actually freaking love this game.
I actually like the combat in this game, its not just tapping button with targeting, with rotations, that shit makes me feel like a robot. The realtime combat in this is different but you are forgetting the other abilities that YOU need to apply... movement, positioning and tactics. .You can easily switch weapons by ones that scale with the same stat.
Star Wars Galaxies (before the dumbed down skill trees) was by far the most in depth mmorpg there's ever been regarding game mechanics. It was pretty lacking in the quest department though as I recall. But fuck me, the crafting in that was immense
@Tim M I'd actually say ESO has beaten it, not at launch but it did eventually. Not my kind of game but at least people don't have to pay a subscription. I just couldn't ever justify extending a WOW subscription for such an ancient game. Not after spending like 100 on the disk plus who knows how much for one of the expansions which surprisingly required both a subscription and two other expansions to play. I ended up just staring at the box art and letting it gather dust.
Like some past MMO’s this looks like something that might be worth picking up in a year or two once the majority of core issues are sorted and more content has been added. We’ll see.
I had all the same thoughts, ended up refunding (steam was very generous). After 8 hours, I was asking my mates if I was missing something. Surely there’s a reason everyone has been obsessively playing? There was so much walking to the same rehashed areas it was incredible. No random events or anything to make the world interesting or alive.
Ya I don't get it either. I feel like for a lot of people, it's just the new game hype, or playing with friends, or exploring. But all of those things are either superficial or limited. New game hype dies fast unless the game is actually really good, playing with friends can make anything fun regardless of the game being actually good or not, and exploring will lose it's fun once you've seen the entire map.
I'd imagine, just like with other games that crashed really hard upon entry into the public eye that were supposed to be "good", that people are obsessively playing it because they are absolutely starved for a great new game to sink into; especially an MMO. It happens a lot. Some people play a game harder in response to realizing it isn't good under desperation that it might actually get better "in a few more hours". People have that kind of response with a lot of things actually, not just games now that I think about it lol
They do have random events, they’re corruption events, and they come in the solo and group varieties. They’re pretty tough, but the ones I’ve done so far were fun and had good rewards. Pretty much the same concept as the Rifts in Rift.
I am sorry , but it is you, not the game if your hype dies after 8 h , you are just dopamine addict who cant enjoy anything anymore if it does not give you new dose every few minutes. I am not saying it is your fault per say, but your lack of enjoyment in such short amount of gameplay is not this games fault.
You've confirmed a lot of my skepticism with this game. Coming from an MMO like FF14, I can't do boring combat. This combat looks very "low tier basic console" combat but for thousands of hours. Yuck.
@@darken2417 ah just try the free trial and see how you go, you won't lose anything if you don't like it. It is its own entity in the ff franchise so best treat it as such :)
Thanks for the review mack. I was on the fence already and I am glad I decided to wait. Maybe after a couple years and some expansions it might be worth a buy.
I could forgive everything you mentioned up until what you described with the community and moderators. Everything else can be fixed, community is a whole other monster. I think the MMO genre is dying, not from anything mechanically wrong with the games, but the people playing them don’t know how to foster a good MMO community.
It's because most create MMOs, not MMORPGs. Many no longer play to immerse themselves in the world, to be social with other people, to just create memories by doing "stuff". To just overcome the challenge a raid provides with like minded people (and enjoy that for what it is, regardless of whatever the hell anyone else is doing). To have "good games" in PvP just to have "good games", not to climb some arbitrary "ladder" that won't matter in a few months anyway. No, many players nowadays play to "win", whatever definition of "winning" applies to their chosen part of the game. It's a bit depressing how everything just *must* be competitive. Classes don't just need to be "viable", anything that's not "meta" is, by definition, "bad". It's really taken the RPG out of MMORPG and most MMOs really aren't really MMORPGs anymore as they forsook most of the RP, and social, elements completely. There are exceptions, obviously there's FF XIV, which does things the way they do because Yoshi-P actually plays (and, in fact, is one of the top raiders of his chosen class) the game he builds and has explicitly said they won't just cater to "endgame" (which, imho, is a ridiculous idea in itself) There's also GW2, which manages to be decent despite ArenaNet's (or NCSoft's, depending on your point of view) continuing efforts to sink the game. There's might be others I have less experience with (ESO comes to mind), so this is clearly not a comprehensive list. But the bottom line is that I do hope that WoW's decline in the public perception and FF XIV's rise means we can put the RPG back into MMORPG and focus more on what should matter in these kinds of games: the social aspect.
It is the upbringing of the new generations not games that are at fault. Kids are being brainwashed in all educational facilities everywhere that "everything goes". This is what pseudoliberalism does to the population who is simply stupid for the most part. It degenerates the idea of freedom to the idea that " I can do everything I want and you and other people can go fuck themselves". People no longer understand the distinction between good and evil because there simply isn't good and evil. Kids don't understand how society operates, they don't have any culture. Previously the religious values were the guidepost now everybody is fking atheist. I could go on and on but I think that every older adult understands what I am talking about here
Thankfully I'm playing on a new NA East server that's empty, no queues, but since I live far from the servers I got lag and the combat is laggy, so I just enjoy the crafting and gathering honestly.
I totally get where you're coming from with only having six skills, however if I recall correctly when I was playing my arcane mage during the cataclysm expansion my rotation was literally 1, 1,1,2, then my proc would go off so I press 3. And then I continue with 1,1,1,2 .. So sure a mage and wow has three times more abilities but in wow I only ever found myself using maybe four or five of them. Once the expansions kept going I didn't even need to use polymorph anymore. So it's possible that this game doesn't want to bloat up our action bar with a bunch of skills we're never going to use. Just a thought. Keep up the good work Mac I love your videos and I hope you're feeling better.
I love Mack's videos. This is my first mmo. I have really enjoyed it. Im level 20 so far other mmos have really turned me off with too many skills. Fair play to mack for not liking it so far for enjoying wow more. I like this game though I enjoy the combat. It's more an intro mmo for people who enjoy rpgs and want to try out mmos. The chilling out thing resonates with me.
Alot of people that played mmos doesn't see any quality. You will find out the reason why Amazon delayed Lost Ark for 6months. when it comes out, you'll notice a big difference in quality, fighting, quest, pvp.
I think In general Us Gamers have profoundly changed, we dont look for the same things in games anymore, I never found MMOs appealing in my 30 years of gaming and still i see them as a complete waste of time ...my personal opinion ...
its not really an issue. there are plenty of players who just leave the corps and skinning really only gives one type of leather. i usually end up with 100+ hides every hour just doing other stuff.
Well, enemies change when going in the Level 26+ areas. Same with the biomes. Even just going to the other starting areas changes things. From jungle, to swamps to normal woods. Gets kinda rocky later with big mountains and the volcano.

Anyhows, New World isnt a MMO, dont ever call this an MMO, there is nothing massive about it, with a cap of 2K players pr. server you cant even called it a multiplayer game if you ask me. This is a extra light version of a FPS wannabe MMO, game is too easy, same kind of quests whereever you go, skilltrees are a joke, max lvl within a week. Let me stop myself here, i could go on for hours, but who really cares. My suggestion is, go back and play some oldschool MMO, and have some fun with likeminded ppl, being it EQ, WOW, or whatever. You will defenately have more fun there, than playing Queue World. ;-)
everquest just wasted ur damn time with the traveling and corpse running - cool when ur young i guess but impossible to grind if u have a family or responsibilities etc
EQ1 and 2 are both still active. Dunno if they are still good. F2P and stuff broke a lot of MMO necks.
@@piffpuffpeng The retro servers they release for Everquest now are pretty cool. It captures what it used to be like somewhat before all the changes.. most normal servers make the game too easy. Though it's still fun.. you can duo with an npc mercenary if you don't have time for groups, etc.
4/10 is very generous. This game looks like it was made by a small indie studio, not a trillion dollar corporation.
Because it was it was made by a indie studio that was bankrolled by a trillion dollar company Amazon isn't dumping money into it this game will fail and they will be out of gaming in two years mark my words
@@mvzme lol no they won't they're working on some huge games. I forget the names of them but they hired GTA V head of design and shit. They are in gaming for the long run

A game I won't play but I will watch a review from Mack based on the game.
I did manage to get in yesterday at 7:30am and what made me laugh was the amount of players auto running in a corner so they didn't get kicked from the game , it then also pissed me off because that can be one reason for long queues .
So there is no skill training either then?
Auto running in the corner actually works in an MMO in 2021 to keep you logged in That? That stopped working in Asherons Call pretty early on. Pretty pathetic, given it shouldn't be too difficult to discern between an active player vs an auto runner.
Auto running into a wall doesn't actually prevent you from being kicked. I tried it myself 😅😅
@@Tys602 you better tell them them I see soooo many people doing it lol I'm waiting for a refund 😉
Are the queues long because people won't log off, or people won't log off because the queues are long?
THANK YOU!! I was hoping to see some external reinforcement of my decision to not bother trying this one out, and you delivered!
Wait for the hype to die down a bit and see what's it actually like. I think this game will have a 95% drop in players within a few weeks.
I haven't seen any of this myself, but then I dont type in global or get pissy about someone stealing a wolf skin under my nose when there are loads more around. It happens and it's a bit irritating but it's the internet and that's that.

Same here expected a reject cane nope got my refund
Well good on Steam then, at least.
How about don't pick the high pop servers then? Longest queue I've had in 4 days was 25 minutes during peak hours. I've had way worse in vanilla WoW.

@@jodycwilliams oh no, imagine wasting a few hours so you don't spend literal days in a queue. I restarted on day 2 and I haven't seen a queue since.

I only ever play single player games. Saves all the Hassell of dealing with idiots.

Thanks for the review Mack , may the bell ring true .
I’m enjoying it for the exact reason you mentioned at the end. To just chill with friends and run around and not think too much. I don’t have chat open. And I’m not a fan of 20 abilities on cool down with Wikipedia open to find the optimum sequence of skills.
Same here mate. This is a decent game for 40 quid in my opinion.
Similar thoughts here. I find it really enjoyable and like the simplicity of not having 40 spells for a class on a bar to manage. Also combat being active versus games like wow which are more passive in nature, right click and you auto-shoot a target etc.
Been waitn for this one thank you!
easy solution for act of stealing killed npcs is, that the moment you do this, you are flagged for pvp
No thanks, that would ruin farming... irrational
Man, I miss those Alterac Valley battles that never ended. You could go to sleep. wake up the next morning, log into WoW, and get back into the very same Alterac Valley BG that you were in the night before. LoL.

Probably because being the first is huge in case something blows up. But this obviously ain't it.
I can always count on your reviews to be honest thank you!
Why u say even runescape lol, runescape is the best mmo ever made. Its the godfather of mmo's
Because old and was a browser mmo. Good yes, but still, even Runescape.
Well, you just saved me 50 odd quid. Consider me a new fan!

Great review Mac we need a time machine to go back to where the world was not stupid
The world's always been stupid
Might buy it. Sounds like you have a lot of fun in the queue!
That ending was hilarious
Gothic 1, released 20 years ago had better melee combat and gameplay than this game lmao.
Combat outdated? I dont remember a mmorgpg that has that combatsystem? I dont play this game but this is not a point in my opinion
you are my hero. will always be. thanks for being so honest and so clear when talking.
Sure and now the game is dead what are you gonna say? 😋
Well said Mac 👍🏻👍🏻
I like how you straight up use WoW as a benchmark. It's the only way to evaluate a new MMORPG.
Thanks for the video, as always!
Cheers
Its so ridiculous that so many years later there still isn't anything better.
Star Wars Galaxies (before the dumbed down skill trees) was by far the most in depth mmorpg there's ever been regarding game mechanics. It was pretty lacking in the quest department though as I recall. But fuck me, the crafting in that was immense
@Tim M
I'd actually say ESO has beaten it, not at launch but it did eventually.
"But they'll surely add random events later, they have a road map."
Hi Mack. Thanks for your viewpoint!
I feel like if I played this I would max out my fishing and turn it off.
Always great content Mack.
Love the content Mack and always love your opinion. Even if I don’t I agree. I usually do
You've confirmed a lot of my skepticism with this game. Coming from an MMO like FF14, I can't do boring combat. This combat looks very "low tier basic console" combat but for thousands of hours. Yuck.
If a game isn't fun to play, no one will play it. Everything else is pointless if your character and combat controls are clunky or boring.
3 magic weapons with each having 3 magic skills, pretty much sums up the game
I hear FFXIV actually has a good story too.
I would try it but I just can't imagine playing a FF game that isn't turn-based, blasphemy.
@@darken2417 ah just try the free trial and see how you go, you won't lose anything if you don't like it. It is its own entity in the ff franchise so best treat it as such :)
@@darken2417 It's insane dude. High recommend.
There are exceptions, obviously there's FF XIV, which does things the way they do because Yoshi-P actually plays (and, in fact, is one of the top raiders of his chosen class) the game he builds and has explicitly said they won't just cater to "endgame" (which, imho, is a ridiculous idea in itself)
There's also GW2, which manages to be decent despite ArenaNet's (or NCSoft's, depending on your point of view) continuing efforts to sink the game.
I could go on and on but I think that every older adult understands what I am talking about here
@@jakekuznetsov8870 Well said.

A friend recommended your channel just now....I can see why.... ur funny.... New subber : ]
