    Thanks for video! Mental note made for extra water carry in NM.

      You're welcome! Yes, bring capacity for as much water as possible. I had 5L and found overall it wasn't enough...however I did miss the water tank that Mark had mentioned his comment.

      @@reinhartbigl367 Thanks, agreed. I found that having only frame bags on my hardtail mtn bike wasn't enough capacity for my slower and lower mileage per day. I didn't add any capacity to the front shocks. This summer, it's small racks and panniers front and rear for added capacity, lower center of gravity, and less hassle stuffing frame bags. Even trying a different bike, a steel frame rigid mtn bike with all the braze-ons for capacity front and rear.

    I found water at the road closed sign at 10:38. There was a swimming pool size stock tank 100 yards up that little road to the right.

      I remember you mentioning that at camp...

    It seemed a lot farther away in camp than in the video though.

      Ya, that I remember it being a hard fought-for camp...the video makes it all look much easier... I was happy to see and draw from that little stream trickling through the campground!

    Which maps/gpx data are you using for Nav? I’m looking at riding some, or all of this route and would like to get the lowdown. Cheers.

      I used both the ACA physical maps as well as their app and data files...and my iPhone for nav. The maps are nicely detailed and waterproof. A tad pricey for both the app data and maps, but I was really glad I had them!

    I’ve noticed you haven’t said anything about drivetrain maintenance or drivetrain issues. Did you have any problems with your chain and/or derailleur?

      @reinhartbigl367  6 месяцев назад

      Good point! I did mention that I was happy I went with the 1x12 setup, but it was while rambling as I was climbing up Indiana pass...as well as the rear rack breakdown on day 1 and my visit to REI in Silverthorne. With respect to my drivetrain, I had zero problems...but I did go through 3 chains due to wear...and my chain fell off on day 1, but that was because I forgot to engage the clutch.

      @@reinhartbigl367, three chains? Wow! Were you carrying them with you, or did you buy them along the route?

    • @reinhartbigl367
      @reinhartbigl367  6 месяцев назад +1

      I bought them along the route... First chain was at the Great Divide bike shop in Helena, then again at the REI in Silverthorne, where I also had them rotate the tires and replace the brake pads and check for loose spokes. All of those things I was prepared for tool and experience wise if necessary (except of course I didn't carry an extra chain) but for me, the techs at a bike shop would be able to do it much faster and catch a few things that I may not see if I did the maintenance in the field....peace of mind, and it enabled me to take a couple of hours off, grab some lunch and check out a bit of the town! Cheers!
