    There are three types of Secondary Structure - alpha helix, beta-sheet and collagen.
    Collagen- three strands of polypeptide coiled around one another.

    • @sunnis-4034
      @sunnis-4034 6 лет назад

      Collagen is an example of a Fibrous Protein which is one of the two ways a protein can interact in Tertiary structure, the other being Globular proteins e.g. Hemoglobin.

  • @KristenAutret
    @KristenAutret 6 лет назад

    You defined a protein as being made up of one or more "polypeptide" is this also true if it's made up of one or more ogliopeptide?

    I really hope I don't got to see 140 videos just on biochemistry for my unit 3 exam (exam 1 was hard...)
    I blame Khan Academy for my failure of the last test: I used videos like this with over 4 hours watched as well as over 10 hours of textbook study just for preparation. I think I did around 20 hours of review over a few days just for ensuring I knew the material. Sadly, even 100 hours would not have saved me.
    SoS.

  • @elizabethsimons3409
    @elizabethsimons3409 10 лет назад +1

    There are several mistakes in this video: 1) Pauling showed (and got a Nobel prize) that polypeptide chains fold because of the chirality of alpha amino acids lined via alpha peptide bonds, and that the H-bonds between peptides line up every 3.4 aa and are strengthened because H2O is absent (i.e. because the dielectric constant in the denominator of the bond strength is a lot lower than 80). 2) The H-bonds between parallel beta pleated sheets are not parallel but at an angle, making them weaker than those between anti-parallel pleated sheets, which may be why the latter are more prevalent in nature, 3) S-S bonds form spontaneously in tertiary structures because the cysteines' SH groups are near enough to each other and, again, H2O is absent. Anfinsen got a Nobel prize for that.
    Please correct these errors.

      Dipesh yadav Yeah I know it's for educational purposes, but the comment doesn't detract from the video. Also most people commenting on the video aren't experts on the subject like Tracy, you can't really expect reliable information in comments. Her videos are awesome, and I appreciate her work, but that doesn't mean I can't also think she has a hot voice.
