    This is a FANTASTIC video!! I’m just getting into compression hose/socks! My first attempts have been not only VERY painful but losers. I’m also a caregiver for my 83 year old sister who can but doesn’t make any effort to do much for herself. Your video has shown me tools that, while I doubt will incentivize her to do more for herself, will make my life easier by saving my very bad back! God bless you, my dear lady!

    I am literally doom scrolling in tears due to severe bilateral edema. I've seen a vascular doctor, waiting for test results. All I've been told to do is continue taking my diuretic (increased from 25mg QD to TID) and wear compression socks. I've been dealing with on/off for 13 years, so I have a ton of different types of compression socks/sleeves. I can't get any on completely myself! I end up with bunching, bruising, and more direct pain along with the overall diffuse pain that comes with this level of edema. Sorry to unload on your video! I am at the end of my teether and needed to vent. 😢

    Thank you for this! I’m interested in trying the rubber glove trick for sure. I tried to get help from an OT last year, and while she sized me for thumb splints, the only sock solutions she had were for trouble bending over, which I do just fine. It’s the thumb and wrist pain that make compression a struggle 😅 I ended up just getting socks with a 15-20 rate instead of the 20-30 I originally tried. But maybe with gloves I can still use those without such a risk of joints hyperextending!

      @@garywalters7881 It didn't work as well for me. the bag for my rain suits is on my foot when I place it in the suit and everything just slides across and the bag comes off at the end. With the sock over the bag you have to cut a whole in the bag, put your toes through that hole and the sock over pulling the sock up over the bag and then the bag out once the sock is on. I haven't tried it again and have gotten used to the other method of donning. Thankfully I've retired from nursing for the summer and won't be wearing them again soon.

    I have tried the BSN medical compression aid (wire device) you mentioned and it works but I am tall and it was just to short to be of use. I ended up purchasing a Sigvaris Melany Donning & Doffing Aid ($119 Amazon) and it made a world of difference. It was a little expensive at $119 but the handles are long and adjustable. It takes me less than 2 minutes to apply the compression sock AND put it on. If you have to deal with compression socks, I would also recommend using the Truform Donning gloves (or some other compression gloves). These gloves are designed to grab the compression socks without tearing them. Hope this helps.

    • @bhallfdx12345
      @bhallfdx12345 Год назад +1

      By the way, the Sigvaris as with the BSN device, the instructions state to push the compression sock on until half of the heel is sticking out. Personally, I push all of the sock onto the device leaving just enough room for my toes (about 1 inch). It still works just fine and no guessing where the heel is located and the heel will always be in the right spot when the sock is applied.

    • @EquipMeOT
      @EquipMeOT  Год назад

      First, make sure the sock is a proper fit. Too tall and it will roll, too tight and it will roll. Also, look for sock brands that have a grippy band at the top, they stay put much better. Some rolling and daily adjustment is to be expected but a proper fit will make a big difference.

    • @EquipMeOT
      @EquipMeOT  Год назад +1

      If you have diminished sensation in your legs, compression must be used with close monitoring in case of bunching or pinching of the skin. It’s important to watch for that because it can cause blisters or sores to develop. With regular monitoring of the legs while wearing the compression, it can be safe.

    With the Sigvaris, buy a second sleeve. When you pull off the sock with the device, leave it on the device. It is perfectly set to put the sock back on. This makes it so you can easily take breaks from the stocking and/or apply lotion, etc. as needed.

      Also, a lot of senior centers have medical equipment donated to them and then gift it to seniors who need it or they will loan it out. They may also know the local medical loan closets, so I suggest asking them. I hope you are able to find what you need.

      I was thinking you can still get the small size garbage bags for like a bathroom garbage in most places and some come with the same type of handles on them- might be worth a try if you can’t find the plastic bags.

    The problem is there is bending involved. Hip replacement patients can’t bend that far down.

    I NEED A VIDEO ABOUT A SLEEVE TOOL THAT I CAN USE...
    I HAVE VERY LITTLE FLESH ON MY UPPER RIBS BECAUSE OF A BILATERAL MASTOMY AN THE MUSCLE STRUCTURE THAT I HAD IS EITHER NOT THERE OR THERE IS VERY LITTLE LEFT
    PUTTING ON A SLEEVE IS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO GET ON THE UPPER HALF OF MY ARM [[I AM STRUGGLING MASSIVELY]] WITH JUST A NABBY GLOVE. I AM ALLERGIC TO LATEX; AN I AM HAPPY WITH WHAT THEY TRY TO PUSH ME INTO USING TO GET THIS INFERNAL SLEEVE ON WITH...
    THERE HAS TO BE SOMETHING OUT THERE SOME WHERE TO MAKE THIS MUCH MORE EASIER...
    I NEED ANSWERS FOR THIS NIGHTMARE...

    Just turn the sock inside out except the toe box. Place them on the toe then pull the part that’s inside out over the forefoot without having to pull the whole sock from the toe. Its how we nurses would put an immobile patients TED anti embolism stockings. 🤷🏼‍♀️

    • @EquipMeOT
      @EquipMeOT  Год назад +2

      That’s always a great option, but not always plausible for someone to apply it to themselves (which was the motivation for this video). When you turn the sock inside out you make the reach even longer for applying it and that’s really tough for most.
