Thanks so much!! I have surgery set for 2 weeks, I am scared.
i looked at about 6 videos for this info, and , as usual, yours is the best. Congratulations.
I wish I'd seen this before my hip replacement 4 weeks ago! I would have used the reacher to put on pants and have a better sense of how to use the sock aid. The shoe horn was really tough for me to use with my soft heeled shoes/slippers.
Thank you so much for your awesome videos. I have a hip replacement coming up next month and I really appreciate all of the info on how to be prepared for it. I live alone so I have to make all of the prep for it now. Thanks again.
Thank you! I am so excited to get this information. My hip surgery is coming up and this video helped me feel less overwhelmed.
This is the best video I have seen.
I had hip replacement 2 years back.these aids would have been very helpful. from India
Thanks again.
These videos have been highly informative. I am going into surgery in 2 days and this has helped considerably and I have gained insight on what to expect.
OTA student here. I wish I had found your channel sooner! Thank you for sharing the information.
My pleasure! Glad to help!
Thanks. I’m trying to get ready for my surgery 8/29/23.
Thanks! You are really good at this!
Thank you so helpful getting a bit scared for my replacement . Will watch all your videos .
Everyone is different of course, but my recovery is going better than I expected. If you haven't bought a shower chair, a portable commode with the pot removed world just as well. My 1st couple of days were frustrating trying to remember what not to do, but if I just move slow, my body tells me not to do it. My fear was definitely way worse than recovery actually was.
I'm on my way to my 1st post-op visit right now
I almost forgot, if you can wear ankle socks, they work better with the sock aid. I'm still struggling to get crew socks all the way up
Thank you for your ways of showing me how to use all the attachments to help me out. I really learned a lot. Thanks, Maggie Lucio, Brownsville, Texas.
Thank you for the video!
May I suggest a dress or a skirt for a woman for leaving the hospital. I had my surgery 5 weeks ago. Most of the time I wear dresses, so much easier to put on. That leaves only putting on panties to worry about.
Thank you so much. This is very helpful.
Great videos. Thank you.
THANK you! Very explanatory and great visuals!
You’re welcome!
Thanks so much. I'm prepping for a hip replacement. Your videos are so helpful, both for techniques and useful products to make the recovery easier!
You are so welcome!
Thanks for the information. You have helped me through one shoulder reconstruction and two knees. One hip coming up next. I will be very well prepared.
Thank you so much for your very helpful videos. I’m scheduled for surgery tomorrow and appreciate your expertise on the subject.
You’re welcome!
I absolutely love your videos! So professional! I’m going to recommend them to the joint replacement coordinator at Asante. I’ve just ordered the equipment! Thanks so much!
Thank you! I appreciate the support!
Great advice!
Very informative, thank you I pray I have the patience to take so much time to dress myself, guess I will have to learn.
Great thks
This video is very helpful. From my own experience: I used the upper part of the crutch to put on the sock. It has the same shape as sock helper, of course, not so convenient because of crutch handle. But it works.
Thanks for the info 👍, just had second hip replacement so refresher course. Helped..
Best wishes on a great recovery! Thanks for watching!
Just found your channel, I'm scheduled for hip replacement in about a month. I've watched two other of your videos, very helpful. Thanks for all the options you also show in your videos.
I'm so glad you found the videos helpful!
Excellent video and thorough. And it convinces me that my kilt will be my post surgical lower garment. Thank yo so much.
👍🏻👍🏻 You’re welcome!
Thank you so much for your videos! A neighbor helped drill holes in small carpenter's clamps and we assembled the pants clamps--wonderful! Is the Vet still around? I think we should market this great idea & so does the OT where I had my replacement on Tuesday🙂
Wonderful and very informative thankyou
You’re welcome!
Very helpful - I appreciate it!
Glad it was helpful!
I love your video i Just had hip replacement just 1 half week now please tell me first exercise
Thank you very helpful video
Glad it was helpful!
9:57 Thank you for all of your informative videos, there very helpful, because I have hip surgery coming up in 4 weeks.
Very good videos you have out
What a great video you made me consider things a has'nt as i have the hip op coming up soon i found this very informative. Thanks 😊 not looking forwards to it tho. 😮luckily it will be singer and so less clothing required. 😊
good video
I love your videos. I will be in a hard collar after 5 level cervical fusion. I will likely wear the brace for three months with no bending, twisting, pushing, pulling. I already have limited had strength with the most weakness being in my dominant hand and arm. Other than your kitchen tool video and this one, which ones do you recommend?
Hay pacientes que se les hace difícil colocar el pie frente al calzador ya que refieren dolor y se me hace difícil el que logren colocarse los zapatos independientemente, alguna otra técnica?? Gracias por el video, gracias !!!
There are patients who find it difficult to place their foot in front of the shoehorn since they report pain and it is difficult for me to put on their shoes independently, any other technique? Thanks for the video, thanks!!!
Can you demonstrate how to remove the sock?
I wear Keens which are primarily slip-on but have to be grabbed at the back. When I've had my hip flare up, I haven't had surgery yet, I use a hanger to grab the little pul piece and pull it into position. Just saying in case this helps someone else with their pull-on shoe that has a tab on the back of the heel.
Thanks for the demonstration, this helps me understand what my dad is currently going through in hospital following a broken hip however he has the added complication of some left side mobility loss from a stroke a month earlier. Any advise on a sock aid for single handed use?
The soft sock aid can be folded smaller to make it easier for putting the sock on it 1-handed. Then you just hold both straps in 1 hand while threading and pulling.

@@EquipMeOT Thanks for that, will look into that one :)
I have hip fratured been looking the socks thing what is that name the one can use to wear socks
Do I have to purchase these items before surgery
I have all of these tools. I just had a hip replacement. I used the sock aid and it was tough. Those compression socks are so tight that when u go to put ur foot in itu literally will be twisting and wiggling that bad side and cld possibly damage that new hip trying to get sock on. Taking them off is next to impossible. I use a reacher and u have to be extremely careful. Compression socks r awful. The two things i find u need more than any other is the reacher and a chair with two arms.
How to put a no-show sock on
Yes switch out shoelaces👍
Great video....how do you remove the clothing?
Hey Gerard, I know you posted this a while ago, but just in case you still need the info, you can use a dressing stick or other item like it to help push the clothing down off of your legs and feet. Some reachers have a little peg on them that can also help with that.
For my cancer surgery las Jan 30, I wore my robe to the hospital. When I go in for my hip replacment I will wear the robe or dress I only wear at home. Told the nurse in Jan that I had to undress as soon as I got to the surgery center so why should I completely dress and then undress within an hour or so. Wearing my robe was more sensible and it looked like a dress under my winter coat. My daughter who took care of my things only had to put my bra and robe in my bag where I had packed the clothing to wear home.
As a female, I bought some maternity type underwear for post surgery- no seams anywhere to irritate. I also bought women’s boxers for when the bandage came off and I had to cover wound with gauze
How do you take your socks and shoes off again ?
How do you decide which length of reacher/grabber to select? I'm 5'8" and have difficulty bending over especially when dressing.
'
Personally, I select based on the task. If you are picking up heavy things or pulling up pants I go 26” or shorter (heavier is too difficult to manage). You can use 32” if your doing light tasks with it, but I don’t love the folding ones because they are not as sturdy.
Roughly how many weeks do you need to use tools to help you put on socks and shoes following a hip replacement?
Depends on the type of surgery (anterior versus posterior approach). Anterior is shorter (2-8 weeks) versus posterior is closer to the full 12 weeks.
@@EquipMeOT how do you get in and out. Of bed,?
This video should help with that!
ruclips.net/video/mTga0n-_Q60/видео.html
@@EquipMeOT oh wow. Getting posterior/side. I was thinking that these tools would not be needed after 2 or 3 weeks
The precautions are in place for 8-12 weeks. That can be adjusted based on healing per your surgeon.
How long do you have to maintain these rules or instructions ?
Depends on the type of surgery you had. Can be just a few weeks or up to 12 weeks. Best to clarify with your surgeon.
How can you put on a no socks
Similar question as MorePlease had. This would apply to men or women. I am incontinent and use depends. They are pretty snug to begin with, or they get saggy like the funny toddler photos! Plus, I can only go up one more size; I’m a big girl. My plan is to have some scissors & duct tape on the counter by the toilet. Cut the opposite side open like making a side seam. Pull up over surgical side first, then pull up the open sides as high as possible. Apply a piece of duct tape 6-8” long to the inside of the briefs, smooth side to the skin, like a waistband. Pull front & back as close together as possible. Fasten firmly to the ends of the duct tape. Stand up. Then apply a second piece of duct tape same length, on the outside of briefs, sticky side toward briefs and covering any sticky areas exposed from first piece. Since I would be standing, it would be easier to adjust the fit before putting the last piece on snugly.
I have no idea if this would work. I thought you might have other suggestions.
I also have the challenge of a large belly over a very low horizontal C-Section scar like a thick rope. The overhang can make it hard to pull up briefs on an easy day.
It's not easy finding all this equipment in Australia, and some of it can be expensive. You also didn't show us how to take the affected leg's sock off, nor a tight shoe (use the long shoe horn I guess - if you can get one). Thanks nevertheless.
I cant do all those things, impossible fir me
Are all life changing clothes like this?
Why don't you tell us something about femur head fracture surgery? I see everyone neglects this and tell us nothing. I am a victim of the above, hence I want to know about it.
How do you et the socks off?
I usually use the long handled shoe horn to push the sock off starting at the heel. Some teachers have a push pin on them that can be used to push the sock off.
Good excuse for me to buy more dresses
How to put on shorts without a reacher
Here's a few alternative options to a traditional reacher:

Why I find this channel after my exams😢
very informative, except for the sock aid demo. most surgical patients have to wear knee high compression socks , maybe you could show that rather than a regular short sock
I have a video devoted to compression socks. They require slightly different equipment.

Que hablen en Español.
Soooo this doesn’t help answer my questions with how to deal with getting your period after the surgery. Mens boxers/no underwear isn’t gonna cut it. And can’t bend forward to use a cup or tampons. It’s gonna be so fun.
I’ve been working with period underwear for some recent clients in this situation! Heavy flow will require changing them but donning/doffing underwear is the same general process as pants! You can use a reacher to safely thread over your feet to prevent bending. The period underwear are way more comfortable than pads (in my experience). Hope this helps!
@@EquipMeOT thanks for responding! I am just a bit worried about where the underwear sits and all the on and off from extra changes. I have delicate skin and want to pull at the wound as little as possible. I have some previous stitches that pulled and left a wide scar. I guess I’ll work it out in a couple of weeks when I have the op. Cheers.
Fair concern. The THINX brand has a seemless style that is incredibly soft and if you size up, it would likley pose no threat to your incision.
I love your videos and the powerful information you are providing, I'm practicing these moves way before surgery. My concern regarding the walker, how do you actually walk with it if you cannot roll it? It would mean I would have to lift it everwhere I go does it not? Thank you and cant wait for your reply on this.
I think ill get a few old ladies gowns and robe. Who is going to look. Im boring a few items. Iv been preparing for 3 months ❤
Skip socks, skip underwear, wear muumuus
There is a much easier way, just don’t wear any pants! I bought an ankle length kaftan that
you put on over you’re head and slippers that were easy to put on, after all you’re not
going anywhere important are you?
dont avoid underwear and do put socks on first so underwear cant bring foot fungus to your crotch
🟥 What is the best length and size of compression socks to buy after hip replacement surgery? It seems they're asking for hip diameter. Is that to be measured before or after swelling?
Will the longer reacher work getting my pants on? I have three? I thought a short one was in my kit but it was two long ones 🥹
Yes, should work ok unless you’re particularly short.
@@EquipMeOT Thank you I am not short I tried it earlier I practiced. Your videos have been so helpful. And you responded. That’s Great. I will be watching more and after my surgery to keep me going . My daughter suggested a bed side commode I don’t know 🤷♀️ I guess I be alone at nite. Only one nite in the hospital.
I would only suggest the bedside commode if you would be going longer distances to the bathroom from where you will be sleeping or there are other limitations or medical conditions threaten might interfere with mobility after surgery. Most do not need one for a standard surgery recovery.
@@EquipMeOT Thank you I don’t know whether to get it now. Or my insurance will pay for one. But that can be to late. I had three surgeries two years ago did not need one. I did not get my shower chair until I got home the next day. I found a good deal on Amazon .
Excellent video, thank you.
