      @Barlaskan 4 года назад +308

      @@Mukkki Have you seen the video of the hula men training? The training they go through is extremely rigorous and dangerous. And the women? They practice every single day for months. They may look graceful and elegant the whole time, but every single one of them is in some level of pain because of how intense and consistent the training is. True hula is undeniably in the same realm of difficulty as ballet. Opera is a whole different area I will say, cause that involves more vocal training than these performances would, but physically, hula is incredibly strenuous. So, yeah, they're serious lmao.

    • @psykii1316
      @psykii1316 4 года назад +166

    • @Mukkki
      @Mukkki 4 года назад +29

      @@Barlaskan I understand what you say. But sorry. It's still not on the same league as ballet. If you dance ballet, you give up your normal lifestyle.
      And pain is kind of normal in almost all dances. Look at the Armenian traditional dancers or the Russian , there you can see the damaged knees.

    You know what I like most about this? Even though you can see the heavily developed muscles on the men and women, they still look like men and women(especially the women!) They have curves and definitely look like they’re still allowed to eat whatever, whenever, because their looks aren’t the basic of what it is.
    Nothing against ballerinas, but these dancers look like humans performing art. Not sure if that’s part of it, but I appreciate it. Nice to see a dance form that doesn’t look like it wants to kill its performers!

      Well, the "purpose" of hula is to tell stories, and pass on knowledge of our culture and sometimes important events. Hawaiian was not originally a written language, so hula was a tool (along with petroglyphs, etc.) to impart information to others.

    I kinda wish the songs had subtitles if they translate to stories. The dance would only be enhanced if I had the context! Awesome performances!

      The song is not from Lilo and Stitch, but I get why it seems familiar. The scenes from He Mele No Lilo are very similar to this.

    I thought it was a cheering competition YT recommended. First time I've seen something like this, but I've seen someone dance a Hula before. It's really beautiful. I want to find out what this dancing & singing is about, like is this sort of ritual or simply for entertainment back in the days...

    este tipo de bailes esta muy elaborado se nota en el ritmo , fluidez y energía con el que lo hacen se ve que son movimientos de mucha fuerza en el abdomen y también hacerlo descalza es tener mucha firmesa

    Imagine having that beautiful and rich heritage like Hawaiian people. Such a shame that more european cultures disowned their own due to church:(

    Ok serious question. Is someone not from Hawaii or Polynesian decent allowed to dance hula? As a white English person would it be disrespectful if I wanted to take hula classes and learn the language and story’s behind the dances? Hula being my absolute favourite dance style I have wanted to take classes for years. But would I be dissrespecting the culture and heritage behind it if I was to do so? If it’s not disrespectful would a white person be allowed to dance in a competition like this one?

      Most of my family can dance Hula. My Aunt even traveled the world doing Traditional Hula shows. Many of our now Haole(white skinned) extended family dances Hula. So i can say with confidence, It would not be disrespectful to join a Halau and learn Hula no matter the color of your skin. Just be aware that Hula isnt just a dance it tells a story. Each movement has meaning. So youll also be learning Hawaiian traditions and history along the way. As for competitions, its all about skill. Skin color does not play a factor in your ability to participate. However i would be remise if i didn't inform you that most fair skinned Hula dancers do purposefully go to the beach to get a Good Tan XD. Back when i was younger, before performances i would go to the beach a few days prior if i thought i needed it lol
