Same with me.. do you have solution?
yes! Installing the amd driver for egpu, then deinstall the amd driver for the internal one, and reinstall it. Then it should work @@brandanwaldman198
Anyone else having sound issues when you mess with settings in game with the onexgpu?
Not worth it if they're not going to let people send it in to get fixed if it breaks which it probably will because they don't care to make them last
Not worth it.
Especially with the way they treat their RMA customers
@@gridheader I bought an XG mobile on ebay that was listed as broken for parts for like 50+% off retail. Got it in and immediately sent it in for RMA. The day after I sent it, Gamers Nexus dropped their big Asus expose thing and my RMA got fast tracked and sent back with no issues. I'm sure they're still generally shit but lmao thank you GN for getting my RMA fast tracked

Just because you can’t afford it 😂 it’s a great device, rma this and that lol buy with a store warranty if that’s a concern 🤷♂️
@@gridheaderI'm from Romania and we don't have this problem, but I still thinking is not worth, because you can find the old one (extreme)for around 400$,and the new one is 900$...
XG Mobile 4090 still the best!!
Please test some pci 3.0 card (rtx2060s) with sony (worst offenders in memory swap) titles to see how much of a bottleneck there is with the limited bandwith! To improve performance with those games you need to get textures to a lower presset and/or lower the resolution.
Also with be great to see a frametime graph in the overlay, this way is easier to spot stutters and be shure is not some youtube playback issue.
I bought the first ROG ally thinking i could cut my teeth on Pc gaming and then buy the external GPU for when i started using it for racing simulators. i haven't been able to get any of the modern racing games to work smoothly with even low settings while docked. The e GPUs were extremely expensive and even worse extremely difficult to find. Now they offer usb so those egpus will just totally be discontinued i presume. This is my first experience with Asus and I don't think i'd give them another shot on another device. Too bad, great concept
Ally X is now Releas, can you update the FPS now?
If u ever have time can you try NBA2k25? That’s really the only game I play. I’m wondering if it can reach near pS5 quality
fps, killed it for me. Getting 240 for rocket league would mean it could actually replace my pc
I bought a thunderbolt 4 cable that’s 6ft long from Amazon spent like 30$ and all my onexgpu does is blink. It works perfectly with the cable that was provided but won’t detect anything with the thunderbolt. Do you know why?
If i dock this to a 4k tv, is that okay?...Samsung Neoqled that is.
It can be connected to the GPU using a single USB4 cable. A small console and a small GPU.
Great.
Your video timing is so good. I preordered the ROG Ally X and I was just looking into eGPUs on USB4. Thanks!
I really dont see the point of egpu videos. So here we can run elden ring on a smart watch by connecting it a gaming pc, whats the point?
The whole point of a handheld is the native built in performance surely.
We could hook up a 4090 to an old i386 and play doom on a 386 pc at 1875fps but its not really running it is it? Its the 4090 and so essentially you could fudge connect a high tier desktop gpu to literally anything and get better framerates. But why? Just buy a pc or gaming laptop :-0
Gather round to see Sekiro at 4k on a piece of fruit hooked up to a 4090 running at 214fps!!
Hey, do you mind providing details about the drivers used? I and a few others have an issue where once the drivers are side loaded it affects the ability to connect Bluetooth headphones and causes a blue screen. Thanks!
I still believe the gpu docks are a waste of money.
Only worth it if you also have a Laptop to use it with
You can build a PC for less than this docking solution alone that performs on par... The product is a bit of a joke tbh.
@@LemonRush7777 that's the only legitimate use case I can think of. getting one for a handheld? what's next, a belt clip and a battery backpack? walking around looking like a wannabe Ghostbusters.

Lol i got asus laptop with their xg mobile output and there is usb4 type of hole in it and it was double use. And you could use it as usb-c, and in getting rid off it is actually downgrade cause now you just lost possibility of using their eGPU and only have usb-c option instead of their sollution AND usb-c
What cable are u using to connect the ally x to the tv/monitor? I'm having Mouse input lag so I'm wondering if it's that or something else
Kindly do some test using the Nvidia eGpu graphic card. do you have the original 4090 eGPU specificially made for ROG ally?
Can you say what the fps was now that the ally x is out?
I'm very interested in this setup, could you test with a RTX 2070 super or similar, if the perfomance is good I will consider this, also if you could test also productiviy tools like 3d renders or video editing, that would be great.
My Legion Go cost me $591 and I do not regret it. The best jack of all trades and for the money is excellent. I love it!
Me too man my girlfriend is jealous of it. 😂😂
snagged a similar sale on an ally. Can we talk about how amazing of a device these things are?! AMD is making some incredible tech. I mean... 60 fps triple-A gaming on 29 watts doesn't sound real!
My rog z1x was $450 thanks fb market and 2nd hand market lol
Good for you, I bought my Legion Go brand new for $591.
Every time I see video with it I see stutter fest
Could you also check the video editing part of this? Like how does Premier pro or DaVinci Resolve works on this
Still waiting for battery life test compare to Legion Go
no need to compare since the ally x has an 80wh and the go has 49.2 wh (i own the go and its still great)

WOULD NOT RECCOMMEND THIS COMBO !!! I did this with the Legion go and onexgpu. Too many steps to set it up and even to update your drivers. you would have to uninstall each driver and reinstall them all over again. Sometime the drivers would be even pop up or the egpu would not work correctly with the external monitor. I would wait until it becomes easier or until the just make one whole device with the gpu inside.
onexgpu is designed specifically for the onexplayers, any other second hand devices will have problems. to avoid this problem, you need to get the onexplayer pro 2 cause thats what i have with the onexgpu and its working perfectly, once you see everything on ultra settings especially red dead redemption 2 you will be mind blown and i don't use a external display just the onexplayer pro 2 8.4in screen
I agree. I have it and it's the same configuration and its pretty finnicky. It disconnects when the go reaches certain temperatures. And it took a while for me to sideload the drivers. I don't recommend it now in its current state. I feel like I spent 800 bucks on broken and incomplete tech.
@draco2xx I have also heard that onexplayers is having issues with the gpu and the intel version of the handled.
@draco2xx Also, the gpu was giving me the same frames no matter TB 4 or oulink
@neilbechem6663 I feel ya, wish it an easy plug and play. This way, you don't have to worry about installing two different drivers and worry about having to uninstall them just to updated them. Definitely in the beginning stages.
rtx 4070 ti super egpu please
That joint looks nice...to bad I just can't trust Asus (customer service)...sheesh 😢
Would like to see 4070 in egpu. I would expect most people would want to run that
I got mine set up with drivers. And am getting a green screen the. A restart. Wondering what my issue is
I'm going to laugh if in another 5 months they release another rog ally with aculink and call it the rog ally Y.😄
The eGPU, if you already have a GPU, works great thru USB4.
I want to see this eGPU go against the XG 6850m XT
Zero word on the SD card reader? Really? Someone wants to keep receiving free stuff from Asus... Best RMA in the business.
hush hush🤫
So paying $1500+ to play Horizon in 1080p med 🤔
no, it can go in higher settings to ultra with the right set up
Missing the point.
I can pick up an RTX 4060 for £250 and eGPU for £200. So more like £1250 for 1440p Helldivers 2 high. Which is good enough.
Cool way of showing us some benchmarks with the X, without breaking embargo. 😎
the X has been out for awhile, so there's no embargo.
Hey prime is it possible you can do a step by step video on that same epgu @ rog ally setup i just bought the onex egpu last week and pre-ordered the rog ally c
does it work on rog ally generation 1
I want to know the correct way to disconnect the GPU from the device
Compare Onexgpu to XG Mobile 6850MT
Waiting for Rog Ally Z1 Extreme comparison.
He'll, I have a question. You can use the external gpu without an external monitor ?
Si se puede pero no logras sacarle todo el rendimiento, además la idea de conectarle una eGPU es para poder usarlo con un monitor.
You can, but the performance is worst.
I understand. Thank you all!
@marcgtsr no its not, ive got the onexplayer pro 2 and the same gpu and i play red dead redemption 2 on ultra settings and runs smoothly on the onexplayer pro 2 screen, yes you can play without the external display with no problem
@@draco2xx It will run slower, I did not say that it would run badly necessarily. The video data has to go back through the same connection and it will pass by the iGPU. So you lose some fps and it has a increased latency.
good to see that handhelds are getting better and better. I still wait for more ram as I use quite lot video editing as well but as soon as they will get into the 32+ ballpark, I'll really consider to replace a laptop to a smaller and even more portable device.
I just ordered the onexplayer x1 AMD. 32gb of ram, VRR.....ETC Fucking thing a beast
@@robertsmith20022 yeah I also checked OneXPlayers, but smething was always off for me... either the design or the power... this x1 is too big for me as handheld
@@robertsmith20022 Is it viable as a main device for Windows?

90 C temp lol. Its way better to just buy laptop isntead lol
Adding an external GPU defies the purpose of a portable gaming handheld. If you need all of these connections and weight and and still have to add keyboard and mouse, just buy a gaming laptop.
you do have a point, but when it comes to AAA games you will need egpu. pc handhelds by themselves arent that powerful yet without the egpu. ill say in a few years we'll get there but in the meantime egpu is the way to go
@@draco2xx you're right. I guess I'd try to not spend that much for a modular system (even though I'm still fascinated 😉)
You completely misunderstand.
You take the handheld out with you to play on the go, then dock it when you get home.
A gaming laptop can't really play on the go, so it's not comparable.
@@Patrick-y4d1z on the go playing is something I wasn't considering, you're right. I was more focused on what such a handheld could replace and for what price.
Do you have a link for the dock at the end of the video?
...i wonder if its possible for Asus to release an XGmobile without the built in GPU (barebone/ with PSU)... where the end user can use their own GPU...? are there any Teardown of XGmobile...?
This is stupid. Better buy pc and steamndeck. Pc for pc gaming steam deck for gaming on the go.
lmao if want play ultra settings smooth 60fps+ play on desktop high-end pc, for portable play in any windows handheld pc play on rog ally or upcoming lunar lake msi claw, if want linux then the deck but you still need tweak a lot, but if want play easly like "just turn on and play" get a switch which is a console simple as that.
Steamdeck is underpowered spec-wise. 720p screen in 2024?!!
@@PutlerHuyIo steam deck is still good for what it offers
Rog should have used oculink instead of usb4
With that amount of money just buy a decent gaming laptop they are becoming more and more thinner
Price on this will get cheaper next year and there are e GPU thunderbolt docks for under 100$ and you can upgrade the gpu
If it was 700$ it would be worth it
I have a GTX 4070 laptop and I still want this. It ain't the same experience. You can't game on your laptop in bed and then in the living room and then easily out.
Thin isn't good on a gaming laptop, lol...especially since you'll get the extra gimped mobile gpu, even more than the standard mobile version
Id love to see some starfield tests
Running an egpu with an RX7900XTX. Performance is nice. Can´t compare with oculink though. But.....usb issues. Keyboard is lagging/sticking from time to time. Had everything hooked up to the egpu at first and then I had glitching sound as well as this. Now I use all periferals in the second usbc port. Irritating as hell! Can´t seem to find a solution. Tried 2 different keyboards. Disabled the powersaving mode on the USB but to no avail....HALP :(
Z1 Extreme isnt meant to be used beyond 1080p. The L3 Cache is 16mb which half of a older Ryzen 7 7700X which has 32mb L3 Cache.
L3 Cache and 3D Cache are for games (textures/video). The Z1 Extreme lose vs a old Ryzen 7 5800X3D in games with higher resolution and quality settings.
I dont see a reason for this to exist.
They increased the price for Rog Ally x with 300$ while keeping the original ally at full price here in Norway.
What a joke, it is not worth 1100$.
The 2023 version have been on sale for 600 - 700$ several times already so Rog Ally X is definitely not worth it here.
USB4 is a downgrade compared to oculink
Yes, but not as widespread
no shyt, but not many support oculink right now except oneplayer devices
Can you test Hogwarts Legacy?
I love my OG Ally it’s incredible for the price but I find this embargo comical. Asus if it performs great it will sell, if it doesn’t it won’t justify the upgrade. All handheld PCs already have insanely high return rates so I must be missing something about the embargo, like preorders and cash flow up front or something
Now that you can post performance data, would you still recommend the OneX EGPU for ROG Ally X? Or is there a better solution. Thank you.
Rog Ally z1 basic on Moye Connect Usb hub with 87w pd has only 25w performance mode with original charger only was 30w tdp but than only with an external graphics 30w and up will be reached ... only a original dock would help like steam decks....
This is an expensive set up for what you get. I literally just sold my ally for$550 and got a lenovo loq laptop for $650 open box with a ryzen 7 7840HS and 4060 with 8gb ram and 512gb. But i upgraded the ram to 32gb and 1tb with the extra slot that it had inside.
Just bought this for my rog ally x. I have tried everything. Reinstalled drivers. Turned off all USB auto shutoff settings. Restarted. Downloaded updates. Different cables. I can't run any game. It just goes at 1 fps
Somehow, he changed the video to know he basically blur the video of him blocking the FPS counter, which is from me. I’m the only person probably solid or everyone so the FPS counter is not blurred so somehow he accidentally done this on purpose and the excelling knew he didn’t trust him because he got sued.
It does not surprise me that the PS titles did not like the eGPU configuration. They were designed for console in mind only originally and so they are used to custome and much more advanced APUs. Tunneling over PCIe was something it was not optimised for, especially at 4x
Coming from someone that bought XG Mobile 4090 I have to say this isn’t worth it. I would love to see a comparison to a eGPU using a desktop 4090 through Thunderbolt 4.
I would like to see when is came out on July 22 you should try rog ally x with egpu 4090 gpu thunderbolt post it video I can’t buy it yet because I would like to see how are they game run at fps
ok how are you useing an egpu through usb4 on a ryzen cpu? I thought AMD couldn't do egpus over usb4, could someone do the same thing with the new ryzen 7000 framework laptop with usb4?
I'd wish there was a way for the OG Ally owners to hook up an external eGPU with a XG Adapter or something. I don't want to upgrade now, as i bought the Ally just a few months ago :(
Gonna wait for it Black Friday deals lol not gonna upgrade mine still good

Can u try arc gpu's
they'll run terrible just like on the legion go because the bios/cpu doesn't support resizablebar/smart access memory
