It sucks that Asus got rid of the XG Mobile but since they are not making any more models that are cheaper than the 4090 Laptop GPU XG mobile, it was the right call to do to let people use their own eGPU. (thinking of having a portable vr gaming on the go, also with steering wheel and all because i play racing vr) THANKS for any answers!!! Awesome content!!, have a nice day1
Let me tell you without testing, no
Absolutely not. 2 2K+ displays running at over 70fps is way too demanding for most games.
You could but will it be a good experience?
Hey I have a rog ally z1 extreme had a quest 2 and played asseto corsa on damn near very low settings and got roughly 55-76 fps VR chat I got 19-34 fps but tons of stutters that made it too sickening I'm hoping the extra ram set the mark tho ❤
@@maxlu2456 Primitive games like Beat Saber and Superhot will play just fine.
I'm very interested in this setup, could you test with a RTX 2070 super or similar, if the perfomance is good I will consider this, also if you could test also productiviy tools like 3d renders or video editing, that would be great.
wait a minute but ally x has only usb c but not thunderbolt ? or
Would like to see 4070 in egpu. I would expect most people would want to run that
I want to see this eGPU go against the XG 6850m XT
Can you do a tutorial for installation this egpu? I am so lost. Amd isn't working, onexgpu isn't worling. Idk what to do
@@GamerDan89 are u having trouble connecting to external monitor too? I got the ally x and onexgpu wit a asus monitor that won’t display anything
I got it working using a Legion Go video but the realtek drivers in the AMD download nuked my ability to pair bluetooth headphones . I hade to factory reset the whole thing to get my bluetooth earbuds to work. I wish this ETA Prime guy actually gave out specifics. @brandanwaldman198
Same with me.. do you have solution?
yes! Installing the amd driver for egpu, then deinstall the amd driver for the internal one, and reinstall it. Then it should work @@brandanwaldman198
Anyone else having sound issues when you mess with settings in game with the onexgpu?
It sucks that Asus got rid of the XG Mobile but since they are not making any more models that are cheaper than the 4090 Laptop GPU XG mobile, it was the right call to do to let people use their own eGPU.
A lot of people on here don’t understand the reason why people want a eGPU for their handhelds. More flexibility than a laptop while being more comfortable to use when gaming. The 7600m XT is a perfect complement to the ROG ALLY and be able to fully utilized the 1080p 120hz screen.
So you can use this device while playing handheld?
looking good. I would like to see it run a 4060 or above. Also would like to see how well it handles the games normally and then with egpu.
Z1 Extreme isnt meant to be used beyond 1080p. The L3 Cache is 16mb which half of a older Ryzen 7 7700X which has 32mb L3 Cache.
L3 Cache and 3D Cache are for games (textures/video). The Z1 Extreme lose vs a old Ryzen 7 5800X3D in games with higher resolution and quality settings.
Ally X is now Releas, can you update the FPS now?
Can't wait for Linux OS Support on this from some of the bigger players, hopefully Valve adds external GPU support to the Deck 2.
Hey, thanks for the video. I would like to see an eGPU test with a 4080 or 4080Super on 4K this time. Just wondering what the performance of the games will be. I have a gaming PC, but most of the time is turned off. So having a handhelp and a powerfull 4k fixed setup with the same device would be awsome. Thanks again for your videos, super helpful.
Doesnt passing the dGPU's display signal back to the Ally's screen reduce performance? Why not just have the display off?
Question is how do you turn off the display. I'm new to this kind of stuff.
@avantaejackson3522 display settings and show only display 2 versus mirror
Would love to see this with Battlemage when it comes out as well.
I'd wish there was a way for the OG Ally owners to hook up an external eGPU with a XG Adapter or something. I don't want to upgrade now, as i bought the Ally just a few months ago :(
It’ll be nice if you play VR games with your type of set up with the graphic card connected to a handheld cause I wanna see how much performance does a boost
I don't even know if you are still reviewing comments on this video, but I am having a challenging time using this GPU with my ASUS ROG Ally X. I'm not sure what I am going wrong but everything is running at 5 FPS.
Gonna wait for it Black Friday deals lol not gonna upgrade mine still good
799 ?
Can you say what the fps was now that the ally x is out?
Is there any egpu that can perform close to the Xg mobile 4090
For less the price
I'm sad we still don't have Thunderbolt 5. I was hoping Lunar Lake would have TB5 integrated especially since it also has memory on package with DMA the latency should be greatly reduced.
Glad to know ASMedia is working on their discrete controller. I don't know when we can expect Intel, AMD and now Qualcomm will integrate TB5 and USB4 V2.
Handhelds really need that extra bandwidth to make docking a viable gaming setup.
We weren’t on our knees praying hard enough like our lives depended on it but we were lucky to be a lunch meal
Rog Ally z1 basic on Moye Connect Usb hub with 87w pd has only 25w performance mode with original charger only was 30w tdp but than only with an external graphics 30w and up will be reached ... only a original dock would help like steam decks....
I still believe the gpu docks are a waste of money.
Only worth it if you also have a Laptop to use it with
You can build a PC for less than this docking solution alone that performs on par... The product is a bit of a joke tbh.
@@LemonRush7777 that's the only legitimate use case I can think of. getting one for a handheld? what's next, a belt clip and a battery backpack? walking around looking like a wannabe Ghostbusters.
😂
Y can u elaborate
@@ibrahimbasamh2204 read the other comments. then post a few of your own
Could you also check the video editing part of this? Like how does Premier pro or DaVinci Resolve works on this
I really wish you'd run benchmarks/tests without FSR.
What NVIDIA egpu set up would you recommend buying for Rog ally x? Can you send a link to an example or recommend buying??
Great video! Can you also compare Ally X with 3070/3080 vs desktop with same GPU:s and i7 to see how much performance loss there is?
That setup on 10:11 is crazy lol. I want to bring that on the bus and see the reactions.
Yes it could work on my lap! Plus ther trains here have outlets a d some seats have a table.
that is stupid, wtf😂
rtx 4070 ti super egpu please
What's the actual performance difference between tb4 and that rog proprietary port
Can you do a comparison to the Legion Go?
I know it will be faster due to more RAM, but it should be an interesting video.
I want to see much better performance, which is the Lenovo legion go or the ROG ally x
Coming from someone that bought XG Mobile 4090 I have to say this isn’t worth it. I would love to see a comparison to a eGPU using a desktop 4090 through Thunderbolt 4.
Now that you can post performance data, would you still recommend the OneX EGPU for ROG Ally X? Or is there a better solution. Thank you.
Waiting for Rog Ally Z1 Extreme comparison.
Hey prime is it possible you can do a step by step video on that same epgu @ rog ally setup i just bought the onex egpu last week and pre-ordered the rog ally c
does it work on rog ally generation 1
I still have the steamdeck. But sometime for I think for that price. it better a gaming laptop. Right?
There are any laptop that you can install a external GPU too. Right?
He'll, I have a question. You can use the external gpu without an external monitor ?
Si se puede pero no logras sacarle todo el rendimiento, además la idea de conectarle una eGPU es para poder usarlo con un monitor.
You can, but the performance is worst.
I understand. Thank you all!
@marcgtsr no its not, ive got the onexplayer pro 2 and the same gpu and i play red dead redemption 2 on ultra settings and runs smoothly on the onexplayer pro 2 screen, yes you can play without the external display with no problem
@@draco2xx It will run slower, I did not say that it would run badly necessarily. The video data has to go back through the same connection and it will pass by the iGPU. So you lose some fps and it has a increased latency.
Comparison between original Ally using xg mobile and Ally X using eGPU, which one is more stable performance and gameplay?
I would be curious to see how bazzite runs on this and if you can use the eGPU with it now that it's using a regular thunderbolt connector.
Do you have a link for the dock at the end of the video?
Curious how this setup would do on a 4K TV at 120hz
why only smaller manufacter have oculink..... usb4 vs oculink have very noticebale difference especially when using multiple monitor
Please try Snapdragon X elite with eGPU, and Linux as well
No driver support yet
Id love to see some starfield tests
ok how are you useing an egpu through usb4 on a ryzen cpu? I thought AMD couldn't do egpus over usb4, could someone do the same thing with the new ryzen 7000 framework laptop with usb4?
...i wonder if its possible for Asus to release an XGmobile without the built in GPU (barebone/ with PSU)... where the end user can use their own GPU...? are there any Teardown of XGmobile...?
can you do a video card that can allow the ally x to run halo series, red dead 2, borderlands, fortnite, but also do photoshop, illustrator, etc to replace a desktop build for a small space factor, in a traveling van/adventure rig? I want to get into video editing too, to make small vlogs.
Asus slides for the ROG X claim USB 4 V2 which should be tb4 compatible and should be able to do 80gps both ways.
I’m a noob to this. I just bought an Ally X. What’s the difference between the 2 Type C ports? Which one should I be using to charge and display on my monitor???
@@lando134 furthest away from the top left bumper(far right) is for regular usb-c type charging. The ubsc4.0 is the one closest to the top left bumper. This one is for the fast type charging and docking. (You could realistically double charge the ally x and max out watts usage, but this is not recommended as it’s not necessary past 60~65 watts.
One question, you take up the cable that the EGPU brings or buy another cable.
hello, can you please try if it works with a Nvidia 1070 and how does it perform. please and thank you
Will this improve fps on the device screen? OR only if connected to external monitor??
Wait, HOW did you install the AMD drivers? On the ally, you couldn't install AMD drivers, since you need the asus provided Z1E drivers, since AMD does not support the Z1E with their normal drivers.
I'd love to see a 2080 super to see how it powers it in handheld mode. I have one in my desktop that's not being used right now and was looking at getting one of those razer enclosures to boost handheld performance while I'm at home and the kids are hogging the screens lol
@ETAPRIME Is the Rog Ally X more comfortable in handheld mode compared to the LGo? They both have similar and different use cases but which would you use for on-the-go gaming?
Great video. Can you shared detailed fan settings?
Just bought this for my rog ally x. I have tried everything. Reinstalled drivers. Turned off all USB auto shutoff settings. Restarted. Downloaded updates. Different cables. I can't run any game. It just goes at 1 fps
