- From Mr Robot season 1 Episode 6 "eps1.5_br4ve-trave1er.asf" Shayla is kidnapped by Vera's brother in order to pressure Elliot to hack Vera out of prison before he is killed on the inside. Elliot visits Vera to check on the prison's cyber system, and later realizes Vera's brother arranged the inside hit. Acting CTO Scott reveals to Tyrell that his wife told him about the bathroom incident, humiliating Tyrell. After Tyrell smashes his kitchen in rage, Joanna explains that Sharon's desire to be wanted is their vulnerability. Angela meets with lawyers in an attempt to reopen her toxic waste lawsuit against E Corp - they tell her it is impossible to win without testimony from someone on the inside. Elliot breaks Vera out of jail, and Vera immediately kills his brother. Upon Elliot's query about Shayla, Vera tosses him the keys to the car and says, "She was with you the whole time." Elliot opens the trunk and finds Shayla inside with her throat slit.

I always felt Darlene dropping THAT many usb keys was serious overkill. If you saw just one lying around, you might be tempted, but 10 or more? Obvious trap.
True lol, but then again I think this is a tv show and meant for unknowledgable audiences so… makes sense for them to put EMPHASIS on the USBs being dropped.

Hope this show has a resurgence this decade. Lots of themes that apply heavily to this new world. Show was truly ahead of its time.

The first time I watched the scene where Vera comes out of prison and gives Elliot the keys to open the trunk of the car, where Shayla was, that scene broke me. And they both ended up with nothing in the end, Vera without your kingdom in NYC and Isaac's dead.

I love how the actor that plays Vera has barely anything on wikipedia and yet KILLLLLLLLSSSS it. Especially in the final season.

@@Joe-zg9eq A term related to a specialized field. For IT, and Cybersecurity, "script kiddies, black hats, white hats..." are all technical terms, meaning jargons.
It's not just the jargon even the stuff they show is on point. I think I remember one scene where they were using metasploit framework. Also CTFs are happening in the background in a few eps, and they talked about Remote Access Tool in some episode, Even the OS is what most security expert would use, in most episodes Elliot is shown using Kali. And many other real world stuff which are part of a cybersecurity personnel's life is depicted correctly unlike other shows which makes it all look like magic and there's always some big red button for some reason 🤣

More realistic than literally any other show ever, let alone the fact that the story is good

I'm just saying, you have to be a lousy hacker for Avast to detect your USB flash drive trojan. You can literally spoof it to behave like a keyboard and inject arbitrary key input on the device, at which point anti-malware is hopeless. Also, he got reverse shell even though the payload was detected and blocked? That makes no sense. Also, someone dumb enough to plug in a USB drive they found on the ground in a parking lot surely isn't smart enough to plug out the computer the moment they get hacked.
This show portays hacking more accurately than any other show out of Hollywood that I've seen, but it still has some issues with its accuracy.

and u didn't pay attention to how eliot was mad about her using some 3rd party code she found online and how she did that only coz she had an hour also the dude picking up the usb and plugging it is part of social engineering

@@simonno5869 Still doesn't explain the numerous flaws here. I've already mentioned a few. You notice as he plugs in the flash drive a desktop icon pops up, implying ACE on the device, at which point why not stay discrete? Why create that desktop icon?
And Elliot got a reverse shell for a brief moment, and with that he also got the IP address of the network. Why not run some recon in order to find other entry-points on the network rather than just giving up because his reverse shell got terminated?
And if their goal was data exfiltration, what's the point of setting up a reverse shell in the first place, why can't they just have the flash drive automatically collect all the data and send it to a remote server?
She said she had an hour, but if she's experience with hacking, why doesn't she already have a canned solution? Is this seriously the first time she tries to set up a flash drive trojan?
Also, if she's not that experienced with hacking, why didn't Elliot just create the payload and send it to her instead of expecting her to create a working payload herself?
I'm sorry, but there are plot holes here that can't simply be explained by "she downloaded a script".
Ok, so one thing I will admit is that I didn't look too closely at Elliot's terminal. He want's trying to execute a reverse shell, but trying to ssh into the network. Which I guess serves the same purpose but is harder to pull off, and requires the host to set up a keypair, so it's a lot easier for anti-malware to detect. The only real advantage it serves is that the connection is encrypted, but even that can be arranged with a reverse shell if you add a little bit more code to it. The receiving client will have to be custom-made to decrypt the incoming encrypted traffic and encrypt the outgoing traffic.

This is possibly the weirdest inaccurate unrealistic and highly glorified idea of what a hacker is. And also a very warped perception of reality and emotions and thought processes from the other actors like the villains in this story holding him hostage. You don't keep pressing fear into someone because they will find a plan to escape and tell rather than get the situation over with and fulfill needs. It isn't the fact that it should be real, but the actors should be more human rather than the entire point of the plot of Mr robot is to act mentally ill, antisocial, and shy. Which somehow gave every other actor the right to act horribly with minimal effort at all because they don't have to be perceived as normal by Elliot. Bad acting, boring, always high stakes and something different is happening rather than following the 1 storyline to take down F/E Corp or whatever it is now.

I have an issue at 2:50... Elliot tries to ssh into the cops pc; Which essentially means that its a bind, not a reverse shell; You would use a reverse shell (i.e. for the malware to connect back to you and prompt you the victims shell to play with) because it bypasses the need for either 1. port forwarding on the victims network (extremely non practical) or 2. for you to be on the same network... Elliot isnt on the same network, hes at home. Which means for him to try and ssh into the victim directly, victims router needs to accept it (port forward set up before time); Elliot couldnt have used ssh, instead, what SHOULD be on his terminal was something along the lines of "awating connection on port "
Maybe he used reverse shell to open the SSH port and sent elliot the address of the computer?
