It seemed as though every season when Elliot's arrogance causes him to underestimate his enemies, an episode like this came around to knock him down a peg or two. Vera proves on this occasion that he is the smarter man in the room. He is not as dumb as Elliot thinks he is. There is also a cool parallel between Elliot's hacking ability and Vera's criminal enterprise. Both are able to exert their will over the world even from a remote location, albeit in different ways.
I love the way it comes back in season 4 too, how Elliot overcoming everything he has, sees vera for what he is: a glorified and mythologized landlord.

The scenes where Elliot conversationally destroys a bit character are always some of the best scenes. Not only Rami's acting ability, but the acting capability the secondary character panicking as they see their lives falling apart within minutes and trying to figure out how to possibly salvage it.

Whenever I see people on the internet or my friends coming up with their Top 10 Best TV Dramas of All Time or whatever, it surprises me when they don't put this show anywhere. When they do their lists they usually say shows like Breaking Bad, The Sopranos, The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones, and so on. And by the time they finish, I'm like "Yo, you gotta put Mr. Robot in there!" 4 out of 5 times they say "I've never heard of it". Not necessarily. They would have Veras brother and could look at it as his brother tried to break him out and then things went sideways. The police have no evidence for direct connection between Vera and Shayla as there would be no DNA in the vehicle from Vera. There may be trace dna from Elliot in the vehicle but that’s a big if, and they don’t have any record of the connection between the homicide of shayla and the prison break. It’s also likely they may not even be able to identify shaylas body in the vehicle. There’s also no indication that the prison has evidence of elliot meeting Vera. You could assume that they may have record of Elliots ID, however he has previous given false aliases to authorities and he could cover the tracks by scrubbing and computer records or audio recording of their meeting in prison.
Fingerprints, visitor logs, all things that are CONNECTED and EDITABLE in databases for certain Elliot-like people. At this point in the show we'd already seen him effortlessly change hospital medical records and test results. For all we know, the FBI runs Elliot's prints and it comes back in the database to Hitler, or hundreds of people, or matches to no one and never will. Imagine setting your fingerprints in the national database as someone you're targeting, and then you go on a criminal spree leaving those prints behind all over the place.

Zach I think we do see it. Season 2 episode 12 opening, when Elliot talks with Tyrell. It actually is Mr Robot. Look at his mannerisms and the way he speaks. He behaves like Christian Slater.
They even got some command prompts correct in the manner in which their displayed on screen and not some bullshit system that you virtually navigate like a boat in a hurricane lol

I believe there are scenes where the actual commands don’t exactly make sense or there are commands missing for the sake of liability (basically the breaking bad approach make everything look legit but not to such an extent that people could take these exploits and use them for bad irl). Side note - the later seasons do kinda go off the rails with feasibility for the sake that the scenarios in which the characters exist aren’t necessarily realistic but that’s more to do with the drama of the show than the exploits not being realistic themselves. But to my knowledge this show is widely regarded as the most accurate representation of hacking in any medium of media for drama.

@@Skittenmeow Well yes of course. They had multiple experts working on this show to put together the code that’s shown in every scene. I believe there are scenes where the actual commands don’t exactly make sense or there are commands missing for the sake of liability (basically the breaking bad approach make everything look legit but not to such an extent that people could take these exploits and use them for bad irl).
Side note - the later seasons do kinda go off the rails with feasibility for the sake that the scenarios in which the characters exist aren’t necessarily realistic but that’s more to do with the drama of the show than the exploits not being realistic themselves.
But to my knowledge this show is widely regarded as the most accurate representation of hacking in any medium of media for drama.
