Good job getting all the rust off. I have found hammer pounding, chiseling, scraping, and also using a big sawzall blade hand scraping can pop off lots of rust. Those blades are sharp hardened steel, great for scraping rust bubbles off of steel. Then coat 3 coats of white BullsEye 123 primer and spray what color you want holds up ok, without having to get every bit of rust off.
That’s how I do it. Now you can get paint & primer in one and save a few coats and $. It lasts long enough until you need a new tire, and a tire/rim combo is cheaper than a new tire and mounting.
mine are too rusty chunks and flakes of rust I dont trust them they only last about 6 years I just bought new 13 inch on rims and tire amazon for $97 for the pair
To be completely sure, he should have removed the tire and cleaned the entire wheel, treated it with an anti-rust compound and then primed and painted the entire wheel. Compressed air going into the tire contains moisture that will continue to aggravate any rust inside the rim. This was a cheap cosmetic job that won’t last.
Nice work but the rims are so cheap he time you buy the pain it's been all that time doing that you could buy each rim for 50 60 bucks I'm guessing the paint is going to cost you around 50 so come out your pocket another 60 plus getting new rim on Tire another 20
One can of primer and one can of paint will do several rims. Now you can get paint & primer in one. Less than $5 at Walmart. Changing tires on these rims is a PITA. I’ve been buying the tire & rim combo for not much more than the tire, and less than the cost of a new tire and mounting. But if you don’t need tires, this makes a huge difference in the appearance of your trailer.
Nice restoration job, I need to do mine the same way!
Now all you've got left is to buff and paint your Cargo Trailer. Great video thanks. Gave me confidence on my upcoming project
Cheap playing cards tucked into the rim also work. Less of a pain than masking.
Looks real good! 👍
Beautiful job
Looks amazing
I like making rusty things new again.

forgot the tape on the left valve stem lol, looks amazing!
....i was about to make the same comment. you beat me to it!
wow, great job!
Looks great

these look great
Nice job. All you need now is a chrome bearing cover
Thanks man!!! someday :)
Don't forget to remove the tape on the second wheel stem.... Nice vid.
The MUSIC drove me NUTS!!
🤣😂
Just needs more cowbell
Does the rust not run through from the back when it rains? Also what did you do about the wheel nuts
They came out great but anyone watching, put the wheel on something and sit down and do all that work rather than breaking your back bending over.
Very nice!
thank you!!
Good choice in music. What is the name of the song?
cool music!
Could you please name the primer and paint brand i want to do the same thing
Sorry if I missed this but what type of primer and what type of paint for the metal rim??
What time you spent on this? for the 2 wheels?
What kind of paint did you use?
Also like to know what kind of paint is used ?
Use a deck of cards and place them around the rim before you paint.
Wow, thats a good tip. never though of that.
chrisfix
How important is doing this to the back of the rim? Will rust spread if you dont?
Painters tape or even cheap masking tape works. I’ve used both. Tuck it in behind the rim. You do have to do it in short strips
Looks good, now it just rust trough from the back side. Probably should’ve addressed that as well lol
Eye , ear , and respiratory protection. Not just eye and ear.
What do the numbers on lawn mower mean?
Great video, I have a truck spare tire wheel that I will be de-rusting and painting. The music was a bit obnoxious though.
I used aircraft paint remover for my trailer wheels, so much easier and actually removes everything, doesn't leave paint behind like you did
Where do you buy that product? Sounds like some acetone mixture.
@@systemfox4724 any autoparts store has them, autozone, advanced auto parts, etc.
Also would be a great thing to clean and paint hub just saying ...
If you have access to a sandblaster, the rust cleanup takes much quicker with one.
What about the backside?
Nice job.

u need chrome centre caps
Now do the frame in the next vid 😅
Hmm. What about the inside of the rim? I mean the other side of the rim, doesn't that need to be painted, too? To prevent rusting.
No diference, both inner and outer sides are exactly the same after year or two. Kind of repair is only cosmetic.

He probably could have given it 100% in the video. Maybe he did and didnt show us that part.

3:00 that bolt will bleed rusty water
Why don't people use something like EvapoRust ?
RobertMOdell It would probably be a lot cheaper to get a new rim and get the tire mounted then a $40 jug of that stuff.
U should have stripped the rest of the pair off

Paint the trailer running gear. Duh.
The rust will bleed through in a couple months. I hate rust
Use a face mask too
Please skip the unnecessary so-called music.
Owner I work for , says a person can do a 22.5 semi wheel in less then an hour. I think he is full of shit .
no need 4 the music all bs
More obnoxious and unnecessary “music” please......
I couldn't watch this due to the distracting background music.
