I love this. It's so unfair that I wasn't able to watch these opens in person, as I was three years old. 1997-2006 had the best graphics, anchors, and who could forget, the best Today show news open. It was so much better than what they have today. It's so loud and blaring. If only time was reversible. I wish NBC would bring back the John Williams open.
This broadcast happened to be on my third birthday in 2003. These Today Show episodes from 2003-2006 bring back memories for me because my parents would watch it back then.
My family got a DVR in fall 2005. I was 12 years old. I was obsessed with this show for all the reasons you described. I watched the recordings of every broadcast on our DVR daily after school. And then Katie left shortly after toward the middle of 2006. I was so sad.
@@airpiedmonttoday show was never same after they started emulating GMA. Look at the serious tone Katie and Matt deliver in this very opening. That would never fly today. Everything is so bouncy now from start to finish.

Frederick Price You are wise beyond your years. The opening sequence now looks like something for a nighttime singing competition.
Right! I'm not a fan of the new set either.
