  • Today Show Opening segment footage from April 6, 2003, documenting the sad death of NBC news journalist David Bloom, who, along with Soledad O'Brien, were the then 2 lead co-anchors of the weekend version of TODAY. David died from a pulmonary embolism while covering the war in Iraq. This was shocking news for me at the time since I'm a news junkie and I often watched Weekend Today for my weekend news updates in the morning, I included the show opener and a couple segments documenting David's passing.

So odd seeing Tim Russert say that Bloom's family will be part of the NBC family forever - and yet he'd die 5 years later.

Back then I got much of my news from David Bloom/Weekend Today/NBC...and Mr. Bloom was a professional indeed, very good at delivering the news and working in the field to gather the news. I remember being so sad when I heard of his untimely death...and at such a young age.

I still remember this. All of this. In a way 9/11 and David Blooms death went hand in hand in my memory. We would have our tv on 24/7 as the us headed towards Baghdad with David Bloom reporting. Still miss him thought I knew him only through a box on my nightstand.
Katie Couric was surprisingly emotional here.
Tim Russert is also gone . The two of them made news actually interesting to watch.

He pioneered a Hi Tech vehicle that could help make the impact in the field and beyond. The Bloom Mobile is iconic and the blueprint for power vehicles combing advanced technology with reporting capabilities is genius. RIP Mr. Bloom and thank you.

I'm crying watching this. It's just so sad!!! I'm living in a hotel, just met a drunk a day ago who proclaims their love for me. I can't be with a drunk, not even a rich one.
