Scary talented group of men. Truly, they were workin' on a whole 'nother level with music, lyrics, rhythm, songwriting, preforming, etc. There was The Temptations and there was everyone else who came afterwards.
When I was younger I was part of a recording group that opened up a concert in Chicago for Eddie; in between shows he came to our dressing room and asked us to accompany him on a temptation medley; it was a great and memorable experience
I think a lot of folks maybe don't understand the kind of pressure that kind of living/lifestyle brings, especially when it comes early. Using narcotics...works. They'll get you up early if you need. Keep you going on those long days. Help you sleep if you need to catch a few hours before...whatever. You develop a dependency after a while. Only a matter of time 'till the wheels fall off completely and you're running on bare rims. Crashing into anything/anyone who can't get out of the way fast enough.
The best to ever do it!!!!! Mr. Ruffin, Mr. Williams , Mr,Otis Williams, Mr . Kendricks, MR. Melvin Franklin. Those five together…… Can never be touched!!!!
I would love to see their contract, I bet it was a crappy deal with the label getting the majority of the percentage. Just think of you working hard at concerts and not know how much you would get paid. That’s messed up.
The Temptations royalty percentage was 2.3% per record. When Ruffin joined, he was working under his solo contract of 1.9%. The Tempts' 2.3% was originally split 5 ways, when Al left it was divided 4 ways. David's royalty percentage was higher than his band mates. They didn't sign a new contract until 1967.
Yes. Paul drank to cut the pain of his Sickle Cell disease. He wasn’t full of himself. Sickle Cell is so hard, even today, to manage. I had a first cousin who died from Sickle Cell Anemia, and he was in constant pain ~ especially as his disease progressed. 🙏🏾
The Temps had high standards before they signed with Motown. Thus, they adapted well to Motown's high standards...at first. They eventually discovered that Motown wanted too much control over them. The Temps cherished their artistic autonomy and they became chafed by Motown controlling that aforementioned autonomy.
The narrator confuses Ruth Pointer and Brenda Edwards. He was only married to Ruth for one year. The troubled marriage and allegations of abuse were while married to his wife Brenda.
What I really want to know is how these people are always telling stories of people and they were not even there it's sickness to always hearing other people tell the stories of people wouldn't it be better to tell ur own stories if you get my drift
The artist back then was in on a down spiral world wind of mistreatment in the music field💤their talent was used and abused with malice intent to handicap stars success into label pocket only as they require distribution to them*
So, what is the lesson here to be learned? If you have talent and can consistently produce a marketable product then you are an asset. The important thing to remember is that you are in a business to make money. To prosper in the music business requires you to acknowledge this and maintain a standard of excellence while understanding all of its dynamics. That means the strength of your last performance. It means a total understanding of this industries reason for existence. It is to make money. A while ago I had a young talented man ask me just what it takes to make it in the music business? I told him it requires not only your talent, but your education. Put simply, the person who will rip you off is the person who will profit from both your success and your failure. Your success because they will enjoy the profit you made them and your failure because you were too stupid to appreciate it and how to go about getting your share.
Berry Gordy took unfair advantage of all his acts. He’s the one reason why, if you want to go into show business, you need to know the business inside out FIRST.
Paul was the best after Al left because Eddie was the best before David. Things changed. David came. Game changer. Next Dennis. Otis the goat. Kept em together as he could. Blue the real genius by bringing The Primes and The Distance together to form The Temptations. Richard. Day one. All of them. So, yeah... It's true. "Ain't nobody bigger than the group"! 💪🏼👍🏼👊🏼🙏🏼
You need a business/accounting degree to be an entertainer. It's called "show business" for a reason. It's not just Motown either. Teen idol's and people like Jim Croce were all ripped off.
Its all personal taste. None could play an instrument or am I wrong. I Love Motown since 1969, but I am not racist, not a black power merchant. The underrated Osmonds could all sing and each accomplished musicians using a variety of instruments. Aside, lets seperate the talent from the personal bad habits. Men, get along better than females. David, Eddi, Dennis and others kept friendships. We don't see Jealous Diane with Jean or Smokey with Billy G just to talk about their legacy.

Ok, now this AI or whomever this voice telling the information is always getting things WRONG. Paul Williams was never a drinker until he found out that he had a spot one of his internal organs and he was dealing with Siclecell anemia. He was I'll and became depressed which is when he began drinking. The drinking lead to having issues during performing with the group so he was kind of put on a hiatus for a period of time, he continued to get paid by the group regardless of the circumstances of him not being able to perform. Otis always saw to it that Paul was still paid. The fact that he was not working with the group sent him into a further downward spiral. The gun that he was shot with was not in his hand. You want to tell a story, then get your facts straight. And do yourself a favor stop repeating yourself over and over again.
You need to do more digging because what you nt gone do is deminish the mans legacy all over again like the movie. He had a successful career. I like this channel and watch you alot just had to put that out there.
David Ruffin is the man any young man or man period would desire to be like, despite his drug troubles he in my opinion was and is a musical genius and in a way great individual, who was just very troubled by his demons. I say REST in PEACE David Ruffin, miss you bru. 😄😌
The Temptations Will Always Be Remember As one Of The Greatest Group Ever. I Will Always Love Them❤
There will never be another Temptations, keep on trucking baby ❤
Eddie, Eddie, Eddie, ..that man was gorgeous.
The Tempts are the blueprint for black harmony.
Yes he was
And so was my David.

That mini series did not come out in 2013 … it came out in 1998

Absolutely 💯 the most talented groups of all times, they are still singing today but the classic 5 is untouchable! In a Class by themselves
Ruffin wasn’t on drugs by himself. This was an era that submerged most of the music industry. Who can say they were clean?
It wasn't a Era. It still goes on today its just less frowned upon in society.
They admitted to dabbling. Not as much obviously

There has Never been a greater singing group to perform for Motown than The Temptations.!

Nobody is perfect, So what are we supposed to do, discredit them now? I Think Not!
Yes let's discredit them. It'll be fun
You would find this in just about every act or artist in the music industry
