      The part about Micheal Jordan and Micheal Jackson got me to think about my own father and how he has had to carry all the pain he went through from childhood to adulthood for 52 years all by himself. It's not my place to tell his story so I'm not gonna be too detailed, but I do wanna ask that you help me pray for him, my heart just really hurts seeing him like this. I'm not bold enough to ever make a prayer request, but I ask that you pray for healing over our household. God bless you guys and thank you for opening up these hidden conversations that the Holy Spirit needs us to talk about. ❤

    My life is literally being transformed in the Basement.
    Having grown up in church, there were people who mentored me (to varying degrees) but no one ever got down to the nitty-gritty of real life the way that the Basement has. It has changed the way I view discipleship and the way I live. Look forward to every new podcast 🙌

    That part of about the doctor… that hit me… when I applied for medical school I was discouraged because I sang praise and worship. And I would owe too much debt. And it came back around and now I’m a doctor and still do praise and worship at my church. Let God use you in your profession to worship Him and draw people to Him… that was a good!!!

    Concerning Destiny's Child praying and learning about God, it sucks that what happened behind the scenes could not be reciprocated out in the open or in their performances. Most often their performances were very sexualized and often influenced people opposite of God. That's no judgment on them as people but rather the assessment of their performances. Its like great worship leaders often times we have to be careful that we not lead others to Us but rather to God. Maybe/Hopefully because they were nurtured to have a relationship with Christ, hopefully behind the scenes they people who really saw them are and were encourage to follow Christ too. We are saved to save others. I believe that we are called to use our gifts and talents but how we use them does in fact matter. You can be a great dancer but its hard to be stripper and say your honoring God with your gift to dance. So comparing the performances of Destiny Child to a doctor to saying you can only use your gifts for God is something to really think about. Whatever we do should be done to honor God in some form or fashion and we do our best not to lead others astray. I absolutely adore Michelle sweet spirit and I enjoy hearing Tim's perspectives but this one I'd have to really debate. Believe it or our group went up against Girls Time (Destiny Child) when were kids and my group was offered a record deal as well. I got saved and things changed. From the clothes, to some of the songs and the dancing some parts of you cant think this is my tribute to Jesus Christ. Your mind has to go into another place, you'd have to seperate yourself for that moment to perform at that level and of course you'll reap money. I think people like to think they live in both worlds but you have to choose - we're either dying so Christ may live or living to gratify our flesh. Do work, heck Paul was tent maker and Jesus was a carpenter, apply your gifts and talents just ensure the message is clear who you serve.

    Thank you so much for talking real talk about using creative talents outside the church. Since I was 6 years old I've created stories and when I was a teen I had youth leaders at my church tell me that since I enjoy writing stories I NEED to write "Christian stories" or that I would be a great preacher cuz I could write great sermons...the reality is that I've created amazing fantasy and sci-fi worlds in my mind over that past 30 years and I've not written a single word because of the influence of the folks from my church telling me that if I was truly meant to write stories they would be about God...I never knew that it wasn't my job to make my talents fit into a Godly box and that God would use the talents he gave me in the ways He gave them to me to work for His purpose. Thank you again.

    This was a good interview. I do want to add though the comparisons of music to other things is like comparing apples to oranges. I don’t think there should be a category between secular and gospel music. It’s just music. Music is very influential. It’s about what you sing. The lyrics. What are the lyrics promoting? Music can promote sinful behavior that is not of God. Doesn’t mean it has to be about God or be gospel music but the lyrics should be clean as in not promoting sin (pre-marital sex, drugs etc.). Being in medical school doesn’t promote sin it means you want to save lives, being a architect doesn’t promote sin your building housing. How can singing about sin lead people to Christ? We’re trying to get people away from a sinful lifestyle. I was confused about that comment and how Tim was kinda saying that was okay but didn’t object to it. I don’t think God would be pleased with that. It doesn’t happen over night but I do believe as you get closer to God, wap or Meg the stallion won’t be as pleasant to listen to anymore because God is sanctifying you and your changing. I also think your mindset when your listening to certain music matters as well. If it makes you think about sin or want to sin... you probably shouldn’t be listening to it. It is a personal conviction however, singing about sinful things is not okay. I would love to hear other peoples thoughts on this.

    • @xtremebk
      @xtremebk 2 года назад +4

      I definitely agree with you. When Michelle was defending her position by saying ‘I can have a job anywhere else…’ I knew it was going to be problematic because there are certain jobs that I feel Christians shouldn’t be involved in such as working in a nightclub, stripclub, or porn industry. For me, I tend to be on the side of ‘shunning the very appearance of evil’ as much as I can. The other thing is, I see in scripture where God categorizes what is holy, common, and profane and He is not pleased when we take what is set apart and cross the line to make it common. I, myself, wrestle with this in certain areas of life, but I’m just sharing my thoughts.

    • @Kim-ui7cv
      @Kim-ui7cv 2 года назад +4

      @@xtremebk thank you for sharing! I love what you said about “shunning the very appearance of evil” I agree with what you said. Some jobs are promoting sin and some are not, just like music can promote sin and some doesn’t. God definitely gives us discernment on these things. I wish Tim explained that out more, but he glazed over it and laughed. I just would love to know more of his thoughts on that

    • @xtremebk
      @xtremebk 2 года назад +1

    Modern christian are so deluded, you think you know about Christianity but you reek of worldliness. Most preachers are teaching from a place of ignorance because they simply don't know any better. Imagine 1+1=2, being scientifically proven yet out of ignorance we accept 3 being the answer and we're teaching from that concept. Persons are teaching Christianity from a worldly context and not spiritual context. The sole purpose of this life experience is to glorify God and trying to live in the likeness of his son, yet we conflate our purpose with Gods purpose.

    1:24:38 - That apple-picking-in-the-field analogy opened my eyes to the scripture of the wheat and the tares. Thank you for that, Tim. God is using you!

    This podcast has been such an eye opener and refreshing perspective It has been helping me in my own journey of healing and seeing a therapist and having a life coach. Like the vulnerability in the podcast has really just like drinking from fresh water that is not tainted. The truth going fourth to God be the Glory for this.

    Wooooooooow!!!! This is so freaking good. I grew up just like this in church. Crazy how we only secularized music and nothing else. There’s so many things being shared in this episode which is helping break the religious doctrine which shaped my mind growing up. There’s a new level of spiritual freedom I’m discovering and surprisingly I’ve found it in the basement. 🤟🏾

    I think they hold musicians and singers to a different standard because of the power of music. Not saying that I agree with only using your gifts in the church. But I’ve thought about this for a long time and this seems to be the only logical answer.

      Well-stated. God can use Believers' gifts anytime, but we still must not mix the NEGATIVE secular/profane with the secular. God's standard is clear. We need to stop playing the judgment card when it's clear the fruit of some of the secular is not of God.
