Oh man, that BP wrecker is beautiful. I had one when I was a kid, in a batch of '60s Matchbox cars handed down from an uncle, but it had been through the living room carpet wars before it even got to me. :)
The colour you chose for your restoration looks similar to a Matchbox model of a Ford Zodiac and a much maligned Austin Allegro 1300 Super, that I used to own back in the early '90's. You were spot-on the cream colour might have caused women to reach for the smelling salts here in Britain back in the '60's. An excellent upgrade! Pity they did not put the rear quarter lights on the window moulding but there you go.
That is a great job I've said before my Grampa had a Ford Corsair blue with a white roof, when I get some space I hope to do some restoration custom matchbox cars. I think l'll replicate my Grampy's Corsair , when I can get hold of one. I notice Marty left you a present with his mat .... I think we'll have to call him light fingered Marty soon .... heel definitely be light on fingers the way he's going 😄
@@TimeRider l will do when I get chance and some space. it's something l intend to once we've moved house again next year . I actually like drawing cars, among other things. I'm a bit of an artist .... a low brow Artist, l have a flikr page under revzillo2063 😊
Thanks-you! I love doing the restorations, but the customs really get my juices flowing. I love to look for something real or different and then try to recreate it in a model. The color matching is always a challenge, but that's the reason to do it, yes? If it was easy, it'd be boring. I still have a ways to go until I'm satisfied, maybe I never will be. But as my old man used to say . . . rest in peace . . . half the fun is gettin' there.
Hey Time Rider, I like it. Join the club of switch'n it up. As you said buy 2 one for the restore and 1 for customizing. Marty's tip's and trick's and supplies' are the best. Keep at it, Love'n your videos'. Cheers' John
I think baremetal just did a fire truck in Spectra Flame because "you can only have so many red fire trucks sitting around." I think that about says it. Those who would say it is wrong to customize a 50 year old toy, have never been married to a woman who finds a grey hair . . . just sayin'.
What a great colour! Yes, a lot of 1960's British cars were available in a sombre colour palette - saying that, my late father had a Ford Corsair in a very bright red, almost crimson colour. The worst decade for car colours in the UK, though, had to be the 1970's. Browns, beiges, horrible butterscotch tones, purples, and foul bile greens, and what I can only describe as pus yellows. Luckily, my dad hated all those colours, and went for dark blues and some of the interesting metalflake colours used by Ford (although he did once have to borrow a Mk.1 Ford Escort in a vivid purple, that gave both my brother and me motion sickness, for a weekend, whilst his white one was being worked on). That lime green, though, is beautiful. Nice one.
my friend Charles Thomson designed the real car .. sadly he's started suffering with dementia , he is an outstanding aviation artist but his work rate has slowed up just short of his 600 presented paintings for gava at 598 presented works
I passed my driving test in a Corsair in 1969 at age 17 and was immediately drafted onto the rota for driving the school bus . It wouldn't be allowed these days!
@@TimeRider It's difficult to tell from the photo. If you look at the photo of the horsebox further down that page you can see the difference between plastic and metal parts and on that basis I would not be surprised if the whole bus is plastic. Is that out of character for Lesney? I don't know, I am not an avid collector any more as their inconsistency of scale did not fit well with railway modelling. However, I do have some that relate to vehicles that I have owned, including several Land Rovers and the MG 1100 amongst others. Having said that, I do enjoy these restoration projests and want to thank you for the effort involved in sharing your skills.
When I get to my new place (fully retired!) I want to delve into this hobby further, maybe do some Hot Wheels Redlines, Corgi, Huskies, etc . . . I just bought my first Hot Wheels on eBay, a '63 Corvette so I can recreate one a buddy of mine used to own. baby steps, ya know?
Customs don't usually appeal to me but this looks far better than the original...is that Marty's severed finger or yours? How will he hold his wife's tooth brush?
Marty did a bit where he cut off his thumb making cardboard mats . . . I thought including a finger with "Marty's Magnificent Mat" would be funny. He crushed his finger in a vise in another video (not really of course).

Nice bright green so much better than the original trying to be yellow cream.
I like customized models. More detail and more realistic.

I'm doing a custom right now that reproduces a car a friend of mine owned about 30 years ago . . . do Grampy's!

Love the green. 👍👍👍👍
I did too!
Great color - your attention to detail is excellent

That's a great job, looking forward to seeing your channel progress.
Thanks, I spent a few bucks today to try and make a jib to mount the camera. If it works out I'll take some pictures for one of my videos.
Just found this channel and subscribed. Great job! Keep it up!
Thanks! I sure hope to, working on two at the moment.

Sort of fire engine green.
Is that what it's called?
Looks great!

I've never seen a Matchbox school bus . . . hmmmmm.
@@TimeRider Apparently there is one -

although in my case it was a Ford Transit.
Happy Christmas!
@@robt2151 You think that's plastic or die cast? It says the base is plastic but I know from some early work I did that it can be hard to tell.
