- What is a butt joint? How is it different from a flat? What are those inside corners called? You've got questions, I've got answers! In this video I break down common drywall terms. The job in the video is a new multifamily residential code. 5/8" drywall board is required due to building codes on party walls and in the garage.

Lydia, you are just giving away free tips, free of charge and still people don't understand 😂
I understand everything... Because I did this for almost 6 years
I never knew you're not supposed to use mesh tape for the corners. I've been doing that for years wow. Much thanks for the tips 🙏🏽❤️
Your welcome!!
BEAUTIFUL & BADASS !! Thanks for sharing ur knowledge . Much Respect !! 🙏
Great talk, thank you. I learned quite a bit.
That’s great to hear! Thank you!
@@DrywallShorty Lydia, Question: Have you guys ever used just the Level 5 compound roller for a ceiling texture, only. I was applying mud to ceiling and it's doesn't look so bad rolled evenly, your thoughts?

Well done, it's true. I do the same
Hey, Ms Lydia.
I am a Level-5 dude and i am in the market, for a 32" skimming blade. Can you do a side by side comparison, between the composite and aluminum versions, please. Thx, LB.. Starr Renovations ⭐
Love your curly hair!
Great job on drywall lingo. Deflection ; (the space between the butt joints that you speak of is to allow for 'deflection' expansion contraction . How many scripts do you need to put in the field to pass code in Montana?
Perfection
It's interesting hearing the different "lingo" by region. You call it "flats" we call in "seams". Everything but corners are considered "flats" including "butt joints". On the East the coats are: "tape" then we "bed" then we "skim". Some old timers call it, "Tape, second coat, third coat, running angle (inside corners) and "corners" (outside corners). Would love to understand why glue won't pass code? Doesn't seem to be a whole lot of common sense with that one.
You need better board for all butt joints , V the butt joint before hanging. My hangers hate me but they love the extra money. Drywall manufacturers have covered their butts 😂
I have a question. We are remodeling our living room. The walls had the old lathe and gypsum, so we took it down to the studs. The length between the floor and ceiling is a little over 10ft. I want to do the walls with the least amount of seams. I'm looking at putting up 4x12ft sheets of drywall. My thinking is I'll only have a foot and half of waste to worry about and the only seams I'll have to worry about will be the ones that run vertical. Will this work okay or not?
All same lingo on east coast exept top angle called "cap"
Very nice
👍👍
I’m seeing you have the same flat issue with your board, driving me crazy
That’s very interesting that they don’t allow glue. How would the inspectors even know if the hangers did glue it??
They do - they can tell due to the missing screws on the board. They come in and will look over the entire job and if there are not enough screws installed we can not start. They are pretty strict about shear walls.
What about glue and screws? Maybe elimating screw pops down the road. As a painter I see that alot after a house is a few years old. Wet lumber I assume is the problem
@@DrywallShorty ahhhh gotcha. Just curious 👍
Shorty with big asset's 😝
When ur Drywalling bathrooms do u run in to corners where say the Durock and drywall meet at an outside corner do u bead the outside corner or do the tile installers tile to the corner or some other process
Just depends on the job. Sometimes we install bead and they tile right up to it. If there's drywall hung around the corner we always do corner bead. Way easier to do it before the tile is in.
I am new to the drywall industry. How do I charge for just tape and floating and finish need help please
Want to come help me finish my next big house. Having trouble finding good help, everyone wants the money.
I mud the whole wall. Its all flat with no bumps.
Why is glue not allowed????????
I am Mustafa from Morocco. I want to work with you in dyeing.
Tt
I don't think you know what a level is when it comes to drywall. Each level is a coat. read the spec. Most good finishers can get away with a level three, but a true level four. Don't bs a bs'er.
Love you ma'am ❤️😘
I love you... But hate drywall...
