Framing a wall is a basic carpentry job that has many elements to it.
In our case, we framed in a portion of a garage to create storage space.

Measure out from the back wall of the garage.
You need to allow space back from the edge of the ledge for both the width of the bottom plate (2X4, which is 3 ½”) and allow ½” for the drywall to attach to the exterior of the frame.
Line up these two points and pop a chalk line to mark the concrete where your bottom plate will be attached to the concrete.
Do the layout on the garage floor or ground and once the wall is built, you will lift it and put it in place. In our case we decided to put our studs in 16” on center which is a standard measurement when framing a wall. 16” on center means that the center of each stud is exactly 16 inches away from the next. The reason you want to do it this way is so that when you put on drywall, it will “break” in the center of the stud and you’ll have wood to screw the drywall to the stud.
To mark your plates, take a tape measure an bring it out the length of your plate. And lock it in place.
If you’ll notice, every 16 inches along the tape measure is marked in red. Go to each 16 inch measurement on the tape measure. Now remember that the 2X4 studs are an inch and a half wide. So find the 16” measurement and come off ¾ of an inch in each direction from center. This will give you the space where your studs will on the plate.
Now mark the top and bottom plates this way all the way down the boards.
Before you put in the studs, it’s important to look at each one individually and see which way it’s “crowned” or bowed. Mark the boards with an arrow showing which way they are crowned. The idea is that you want all the boards to be crowned in the same direction. If you don’t do this you’ll end up with a wavy wall once the drywall is put on and that will not look good at all.
After you get your studs cut to length, lay them in between the top and bottom plates and line them up with the marks you made earlier.
Once the wall is nailed together, lift it into place Once the top plate’s nailed in, be sure the bottom plate is lined up on its mark and use a drill with a masonry bit to drill through the plate into the concrete. Once you’ve drilled through every couple of feet, use Tap-con’s (which are screws especially made for concrete) to attach the bottom plate to the concrete. The threads of the Tap-con’s actually dig into the concrete and will firmly anchor the wall.
Once you have finished framing the wall, you are ready to hand the drywall and door.

Great video, it's really weird how this video is 2years old but feels like it was filmed in 90s
Those tools are from the 90's 😂
Probably filmed in the 90s and got uploaded to RUclips 3 years ago 😅
It's the echoing ... Reminiscent of Bob Villa
I’m thinking closer to 2005
Your a dummy 😂😂😂
Rodger's watch game is on point
Why not a jigsaw
“How do we look”
Helper measures 1/8” over.
Helper: “Good!”
This is great, I'm planning to make a bedroom out of extra space I have.
Your explanations are so clear!
Why is he measuring in bald eagles?
This is why we pay a lot to get things installed. The trades will never die.
How much will this cost please
Figuring out how to partition the living room to make an extra bedroom on a low budget and not get nails in the ground too
Why was the wall stud next to the door laid flat and doubled up with the additional spacer, instead of on its side like the other wall studs?
Great tutorial! But i noticed that you measured the width of the door(standard width) you gave it 2 extra inches to compensate..but you never measured the length of the door and wether or not if you also give it an extra 2 inches as well for frame installation.
Standard door height is 80 inches. You would add 2 inches to the height dimension of the rough opening as well, so frame it at 82 inches.
Like how you tell how to frame it up especially for a beginner and the terms that you use and how you tell a person and the size of the board real good instructions need to make more videos
So thankful for channel's like yours videos like this are worth their weight in gold
You didn't tape that seam. It will crack.
Its from the 80s but is the best one I found so far!!!!
I bet yall ready to nail some studs 😶
Why do you use nails instead of screws to put everything together… just wondering…
I would prefer screws because I have a nail coming thru from my bedroom wall into my bathroom wall after a few years.
I thought this video was was filmed in the 60s lol jokes great video
Help! Which nail sizes are used here? Size and type please help. Thank you!!! @yournewhouse
I will be doing this project over the weekend. Thanks 🙏🏽
Loved the video.I plan on doing something like that in my garage(shop now)and just needed some good info.
Why not put the glue underneath the wall.
Great video! If this is an exterior wall you should have insulated the wall.
Weird to see the header and kriples reversed.
Super lesson. Thanks!
I Would liked to have seen a step by step video on all the details... It was good starting with the Hight and width measurements then you skipped to a finished frame layout , leaving out the details on how you got to that point
I know this guy an adult Bec I'm gonna cut the sheet rock until it falls
Thank you. Great explanation
Hi my Name Matthew i like what ur made im doing the same with my barthroom , but moving the door frame , in stade it been to close to the wall , my barthroom not that big , so the door is going to be a bite more to the left from the wall ,about 20cm from the wall so ill have enough room for Slim chrome towel radiator it go to be grate project to do 😄
Underrated video subbed
I installed a wall using construction screws, it makes it easier to construct.
Fuck yea,
Great video….This helps a lot
This is a great video. Easy to follow and understand. Thank you.
Bro I’m gonna do mine this week
He only secure the top at the corners. Huh.
How far apart are tapcon screws in base plate
While it was not shown I was curious how you put mud into the angle where the sheetrock met the existing popcorn ceiling.
I did a partition in my kitchen which had a popcorn ceiling so I just used quarter-round trim instead of trying to tape and mud the thing. Worked great
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ very nice work good explain
Is there a video how to remove it ?
Hi! Did u cut the top of the sheet rock or u just left it as is?
Your videos are satisfying to watch. Very detailed, everything seems to be on point including the camera angles.
Exactly what I needed. Thank you.
Thanks! This is really helpful.
Great video! But what is the door rough opening trimmer measurement before cutting the base plate? Thanks
He said 2 inches
Thank you!
You skipped too many steps for me to follow you.
Those hammers look like a kids toy I'd much rather use a real carpenters hammer like a 26 Oz. Daluge
